“Great hotel and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

We have just returned after staying at the Sonnschein in a group of 6. From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were all well looked after by Jill and her team. All the staff that we met were very helpful and found the service very good. The swimming pool was a great advantage after a full days skiing. All the rooms were very clean and plenty of space in each with a large balcony, safe, fridge and satellite tv. The hotel is just over a 5 minute walk to the main Gondala in the Niederau and the main bus stop to take you to different resorts. There is a ski locker in the hotel and one by the main Gondala station if you didn't want to carry your equipment back to the hotel. The food was fantastic 4 course meal every night with plenty of choice. The resort is lovely, however if you are a beginner the runs are spread out across Neiderau, Auffach and Alpbach and in Alpbach you have to be able to ski red runs before you get to the blue runs. That said there is still runs in each resort for beginners to learn on. A couple of the group went on an away day to the Ski Welt area which includes Soll and that was a great option to have. I would have no problem in recommending this hotel to anybody as we all had a great stay.

Just returned from a week staying at the Sonnschein Hotel, in Niedereau. As usual, Gill & her hard working staff were excellent. The rooms were lovely & clean. Lovely choice of meals. Swimming pool & sauna area's were beautiful. Another excellent stay at the Sonnschein, it feels like coming home, each time we visit.

We stayed with 4 year old daughter and my friends family with boy and girl 9&12. It was my wife and youngest daughters first ski trip. The hotel exceeded my expectations. Food good and plentiful, swimming pools excellent fun. Gill and the staff are really doing their best to make sure the guests are happy and well looked after. We had a couple of mis haps on the slopes and the support from the hotel was brilliant and quite touching. The area is great for beginners and by far the friendliest most sociable ski holiday I have been on. Despite the mis haps all of the new skiers in our group can now ski and my wife and daughter can't wait for next time. I arrived already injured from a previous trip to France so did not ski and despite this had a really great time. I expect we will be back to the Sonnschein next year. (If any one will insure us).

Room Tip: Bring a couple of large cups with you for room drinks. Make sure your ski hire is from the hotel no...

We stayed here during Feb 2013 half term as a family of two adults and two children. If we were to stay in Niederau again we would definitely want to stay here again. Gill and her staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble for them. The only two negative points would be the very high price of the soft drinks for the kids (and adults) at dinner and the hardness of the surface of the sofa bed, although the hotel did try their best to rectify this by giving us additional foam mats, which helped a bit. However, the huge double bed was extremely comfortable. The room was very large, well furnished and laid out, very warm and comfortable. The bathroom was also very large, nicely furnished and the shower was fantastic (huge cubicle!). There were two pool tables and a football table. The pool area was very good with a pool for adults and kids, with water jets and a lovely calm pool for adults only. There were also steam rooms, saunas and solariums as well as lots of loungers to relax on at the sides of the pools. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a large selection of hot and cold food. Dinner was from a choice of three dishes (except the first night) that had to be selected at breakfast time and was usually very good and complemented with a nice salad bar. All things considered, we would strongly recommend this hotel to anyone!

Agree with other commnts that bar and restaurant staff are incredibly rushed, clearly the mgt want to keep prices down or profit margins high. Overall it is a nice hotel and the rooms and communal areas clean and staff friendly. The food is not bad but there is no choice for kids - I have had a lot worse food on skiing trips! The salad bar as part of evening meal was very good. I stayed with two children and would echo comments made about the showers, you need to be careful as the water temperature isn't regulated. As I say I think the hotel is pretty good overall and reasonably child friendly, they had a movie on each evening for the kids. A couple of gripes are you need to pay for WiFi which only works in the communal areas and in the evening it doesn't have the capacity and so doesn't really work at all which you can accept if it was free but not when you've paid. Another thing to bear in mind is that when you book drinks to your room you don't sign anything and are reliant on the waiter to get it right. At the end of the week you get a bar bill and have to hope it's right! I believe mine was out by about 20 euros.

Big, friendly and clean
Good facilities, reasonably priced drinks
Decent food, great salad bar, but evening meals not amazing, good enough for a ski holiday though
Nice pool and steam rooms, but a jacuzzi is sorely needed
Close to Neiderau ski lifts, but the bus journey to Auffach is essential as Niederau is very small
Three of us in a big family room, although the sofa bed wasn't comfortable

I've just come back from a weeks skiing staying at the Sonnschein. The hotel is lovely, it's welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and probably the friendliest place I have been to. I upgraded to a superior single room, many hotels don't have these and it was worth it, my room was very comfortable. The facilitites are great, I can recommend the massages booked direct with reception. The food is excellent and plentiful (they have a new chef for all those who complained in previous trip advisor reviews I read before I went away). I would recommend this hotel to anyone whether you are a family, a group, a couple or like me travelling solo, I met so many lovely people. The hotel had seated me with another single traveller for dinner which again is a great idea so that neither of us were sat alone for breakfast or dinner. There was one evening I needed dinner early as I was heading off to the olympic bob sleigh run in Innsbruck (great trip for anyone who wants a thrill!) again Gill organised dinner for me early and nothing was too much trouble, overall a great place and I'd definitely go back.

Room Tip: Rooms in the new part are very nice, room 120 is on the corner and spacious, I had a peak when the c...
