Big, friendly and clean
Good facilities, reasonably priced drinks
Decent food, great salad bar, but evening meals not amazing, good enough for a ski holiday though
Nice pool and steam rooms, but a jacuzzi is sorely needed
Close to Neiderau ski lifts, but the bus journey to Auffach is essential as Niederau is very small
Three of us in a big family room, although the sofa bed wasn't comfortable

I've just come back from a weeks skiing staying at the Sonnschein. The hotel is lovely, it's welcoming, nothing is too much trouble and probably the friendliest place I have been to. I upgraded to a superior single room, many hotels don't have these and it was worth it, my room was very comfortable. The facilitites are great, I can recommend the massages booked direct with reception. The food is excellent and plentiful (they have a new chef for all those who complained in previous trip advisor reviews I read before I went away). I would recommend this hotel to anyone whether you are a family, a group, a couple or like me travelling solo, I met so many lovely people. The hotel had seated me with another single traveller for dinner which again is a great idea so that neither of us were sat alone for breakfast or dinner. There was one evening I needed dinner early as I was heading off to the olympic bob sleigh run in Innsbruck (great trip for anyone who wants a thrill!) again Gill organised dinner for me early and nothing was too much trouble, overall a great place and I'd definitely go back.

Room Tip: Rooms in the new part are very nice, room 120 is on the corner and spacious, I had a peak when the c...

We have been to a different ski resort in different countries every year for around 12 years. Personally this has been the best place as the staff were extremely friendly, the rooms were nice and spacious, especially the shower! Has something for everyone, adults have the bar which has a really nice lively atmosphere with good music, but then there's the quiet reception area for a more relaxing evening. The kids have a games room with pool tables, and then there's the spa and swimming pool which is also great. The food service is excellent and they don't rush you at all they let you take your time and always make sure you have drinks. The rooms are immaculately cleaned, literally cannot fault this hotel and the family that own it. Would definitely return!

On arrival the hotel seemed nice and the staff were friendly. Our rooms were clean and spacious but disappointed to see tea, coffee and milk had to be bought from reception for 10 euros.

We went straight down for dinner and found the table allocation to be very unclear and after being ignored by several members of staff, when asking the passing receptionist she rudely told us they were very busy so to wait.

The food was very dated and processed. Although the menu read well the meals were awful, often being dry (due to at a guess being pre plated) and completely covered in uncomplentory sauce. Children had no choice and of only one of the 7 nights had vegetables (which were frozen).
Resturant staff were very friendly but very overworked.

On a more important note, the hot water system was very dangerous. The shower constantly went from being scolding hot to freezing cold. We traveled with a ten year old and seeing as the shower was so dangerous we attempted to run baths but this took in excess of 30 minutes and again struggled because of the inconsistency of the water temperature. Also the heating was on for the first day but then did not seem to come on again until the last day!

The resort was great but would definitely not recommend this hotel.

I am sorry to read that you thought our table allocation to be unclear. It is quite straight forward and works perfectly . On arrival day it is always busy until all our new arrivals have been shown to their allocated tables. I cant imagine any of my staff being rude or ignoring a guest. As the 2nd Feb was one of the busiest arrivals days of the season I would suggest it was more a case of being busy rather than ignorant.

I am not quite sure of the motive behind taking a photo of what seems to be a half eaten -totally modged up main course. It started out as a jacket potato with sour cream dip freshly grilled tomato and courgettes and grilled meats - nothing processed about that!!

The "Kids Corner" is only a child friendly suggestion - they can also choosefrom the three main courses daily.

It was interesting to read the range of reviews before visiting this hotel. We agree the service was excellent and the owners friendly and helpful. The bedroom and bathroom were fine. The breakfast we found varied and plentiful. We don't drink juice so didn't notice that it was squash. The reason we don't give an overall "Excellent" is because we found the suppers poor.(Supermarkets' own brand Swiss roll is better than the one we received for dessert.) We excuse them because when catering for up to 400 guests at one time quality is bound to drop. Having to buy bottled water rather than being given tap-water at supper is a bit mean. Niederau itself is a pretty Alpine village that is suffering like many such places. The more popular it becomes the more big hotels go up and the less pretty it becomes.

Stayed at the sonnschein for 4 nights at the start of feb and couldn't fault it.
Gill was the perfect host, ever pleasant and helpful. When one of our party injured himself she couldn't do enough organising taxi to doctor etc..she also looked after one of our younger members when he was feeling unwell.
Hotel is very reasonably priced an convenient to the slopes. Overall cannot fault this hotel.
