“Multiple Ski Autobahn, No Polizei”

Ischgl-Samnaun ski area
Ranked #1 of 9 things to do in Ischgl

If you're looking for a peaceful, quiet skiing area, forget about Ishgl. The Ishgl mountains are very generous with dozens are pistes for all levels of skiers, some very wide. But they are over-built with literally thousands of ski lifts going all directions. The sky looks like a futuristic Silvester Stallone movie, full of round and long objects moving about at regular pace.

Ishgl is an after-ski party town, historically famous for attracting singles (although no gender balance). Unfortunately, for some skiers the party starts at about 10 am in the mountains. So you see many reckless skiers and snow-boarders, some drinking their way down the pistes.

So, go there if you are prepared to take the risk of injury and aggregation. Otherwise choose another spot, especially if you have skiing children.

tons of lifts and great slopes for beginners and advanced alike (Personally I am an advanced snowboarder). you can tell that Ischgl invests a lot of the money they earn. all chairs are "high speed", most with an additional bubble cover to protect against wind. Some of the gondolas even have heated seats! crazy. food on the slopes is good and prices are ok. lots of places to eat and party in town. overall my favorite place for a week on my board (and hey... I live in Switzerland!)

Choose accommodation close to the Fimba or Pradasch lifts in my opinion since the were not too busy between 8:00 and 8:20 in the morning. The gondola ride is beautiful. The slopes are well groomed and wide and we really enjoyed the blue 8 and 11 in the mornings. 22, 23 are excellent in the afternoons and 62 and 63 are good fun as well. The red 7, 4 and 40 were stunning in the mornings and I enjoyed 10 and 66. We went to Samnaun twice using 60 and 80. We only had one day of bad weather when the wind was strong and some lifts were closed. I would suggest buying some good quality goggles for cloudy days. There are many mountain restaurants to choose from. We went during the Ski Magic week and even at the busiest lifts we never had to wait more than a minute or two. Ischgl is a beautiful, well run ski area and highly recommended.

Skied in Ischgl for the second year in a row during February half term.
The problem with the resort is getting up to the plateau where all the skiing radiates out from. I took 45 minutes from start of the wait to getting off the lift on the worse day and over 30 minutes each of the other days.
Once up the queues are not too bad and often you arrive in an area to discover more than one lift starting from an area. If you are flexible about which direction you want to ski then queues can be eliminated.
The area is large with lots of pistes for early skiers close to the main valley lift access. Vast amounts of blue and red runs spread out in all directions but the lifts are numbered according to section so it is fairly easy to keep track of your location. The black pistes can be seriously steep but are usually wide enough not to be too difficult. The 70degree piste is just too popular and so gets scrubbed very early each day with the numbers challenging themselves to risk it. Much of the off-piste is quickly tracked but there is lots of it!
Restaurants very varied from self service to full service tables only. Prices not cheap but not too bad.
