“Surprisingly disappointing”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2013

After reading the T/A reviews we had really high expectations and were so looking forward to this break.
Nothing seriously wrong. Food good, though they did serve every meat dish with a veal reduction that smothered the flavours somewhat. Good breakfast selection. Staff pleasant and courteous.

Bit of a trek uphill from the Dorf tunnel. Awkward carrying skis.Minor issue.

Things that spoilt it for us:
A charge of 3 euros for a jug of tap water (despite our bar bill for the week being approx £300!
A charge of 2.90 euros euros for a cup of hot water
Manager. Quite rude, arrogant (almost aggressive) when we queried these.
Pillows - squashed to nothing and no option for firmer pillows.
Room - poor temperature control - either stiffling hot or you had to open the door and shiver!
No apres ski coffees / hot chocolates! You had to pay for these as well.
They did serve some complimentary soup / bread / cold meats though.
10.00am checkout when we were collected at 2.30pm with no access to any facilities (wellness / pool etc)
Stay again? No.

We have just returned from an excellent 2 week summer stay at the Piz Tasna, Ischgl.
This family run hotel is of a very high quality - particularly the food (cooked by Roland the owner). His whole family are very friendly and run the hotel well. They also all speak very good English, so we weren't too concerned that our tour company (Crystal) did not have a rep in this particular resort.
We booked a superior room which had stunning views from the balcony over the roof tops to the mountains. Everything was very clean and newly refurbished. There was a fridge in the room ready for your own drinks - which we bought from the nearby supermarket. As usual there was no tea and coffee tray in the room - but like most Brits, we never go anywhere without our travel kettle.
There is a small hotel bar, and prices are very reasonable - a quarter litre of house wine was only about 4 euros. Unusually for Austria, the whole hotel is no-smoking.
Breakfasts were excellent - the usual continental selection and also eggs and bacon freshly cooked to order.
Dinners - at least 6 courses with choice of main course. Plenty of varied salad selections too.
Everything was beautifully presented and delicious!
The hotel spa is excellent and includes a small indoor pool with a machine which creates a current to swim against. Lovely relaxing hay and waterbeds with soothing music. We mostly had these facilities to ourselves as there were few other guests around during the daytime.
Although the hotel is set above the village there is a rather unusual lift and moving pavement system to take you down to the centre in a couple of minutes. From there you can get local buses and a cable car. A ticket to include all transport for the 2 weeks was about 80 euros each, and as we were so well fed at the hotel, we spent little more during our stay.
There is also an easy 10 minute walk through the woods to a fantastic open air lido - although the water we found to be rather cold!
We have taken holidays in Austria many times and this hotel was the best yet for friendly service and great food. We were made to feel special by the Salner family, who create an efficient but relaxed atmosphere.
I would guess that the whole report is very much more busy in the winter season, but we hope to return in the summer to do more walks in this wonderful part of Austria.

We stayed at the Piz Tasna as a group of (6 middle age) male skiers. Roland (the owner) and all his staff made sure that our stay was 'perfect' (as he would say). The hotel rooms are large and the bathrooms modern with great facilities. The food each night was excellent ( although we were a little worse for wear on occasions to enjoy it fully). The hotel is situated away from the main street in a quiet hillside location but still only 5mins walk from all the main lifts and Après Bars. I would say that the hotel is for older clients (like us) or families. A great hotel with great service.

A very nice family hotel, clean rooms, adequate breakfast.

What really annoyed me however is the fact that the hotel has taken advantage of its good position on trip advisor and thinks it is fair to charge 250 Euros per night for a 4* hotel.

Also the hotel rooms don't have air conditioning. Apparently this is normal for Ischgl but it means that whenever the weather is warmer than the ski season average, you would need to sleep with the window/door wide open.

I also found it strange how the room-maids don't knock before entering the room to clean.

In summary, a nice hotel in a good location... not too far from the ski-lifts but also conveniently away from the real loud party atmosphere in Ischgl.

We have just returned from a week in this hotel. The service was very helpful and the food very good.

The ski lift is not far when one uses the lift/travelator. We like hotels to be quiet (noise wise) and the location balances being convenient while being close to everything you need.

We would throrougly recommend this hotel.

I don't really want to say what a great time I had staying at the Piz Tasna because it will only encourage more people to try it, and fall in love with it, but I have to. It was 1st class. I really enjoyed everything about the hotel but for me it was the food that was just sensational. Where I live, Jersey, it would be rated 5 star, and this in an Island with more than its fair share of excellent restaurants.
The hotel really is 150 metres from a travellator that takes you to the cable car. You really can ski down to within 50 metres of the hotel. It really is a peaceful location even though it is just a short walk from the town centre.
The wine list was full of local and Italian wines at reasonable prices and the staff were always on hand to help you choose the right wine for the course/meal. The bar area was fine and the cocktails beautifully presented and relatively cheap.
The wellness (don't you hate that word) centre was excellent to my untrained eye, and with only about 35 rooms, there wasn't much pressure on the facilities.
The boot room was well appointed and thoroughly modern.
The only thing near to a complaint I could come up with was that I didn't like the choice of pillows.
As for skiing, I'm an intermediate, and I found that by the end of the week I was running out of runs that I hadn't tried.

You won't be disappointed with this hotel (if you can get in - it is becoming very popular). The food is excellent - mostly nouvelle cuisine in style, and the service is outstanding from friendly staff and attentive family management. One of the main lifts is just a short walk away, and you can ski back to the hotel depending on snow conditions.
We definately plan to go again.
