“Excellent service”
Reviewed March 15, 2011

Stayed here for a week of skiing and snowboarding with friends. Hotel was selected on the basis of tripadvisor reviews and location. The reviews were accurate - this is a friendly hotel where the staff take a pride in their work. A few of the staff are quieter, perhaps a language issue, but special thanks are due to the multilingual Susannah who went out of her way to make our stay fun. Special thanks too to the kitchen for coping admirably with one of our group who eats neither meat nor cheese. Austria is not in general the worlds most vegetarian-friendly country.

As reported by others the food was excellent (meat or no meat) - they pride themselves on this - with plenty of wine options to accompany - they pride themselves on this too, with wine tasting sometimes available in their wine cellar. One evening we followed this up with a meat fondue, also recommended - we paid 10 euros extra for this and the wine tasting, which was well worth it. Note also that there is always a salad bar available in the evenings, to accompany the four courses!

Rooms were kept spotless throughout. Slight problem with not being able to control the heating in one, opening the window worked, but why waste the earth's resources heating the street? Another room was a tad noisy too, being situated close to the road. Rooms, though of a good size, were a bit smaller than on the hotels website; the larger ones are presumably reserved for those that book direct - we booked a first choice / crystal package.

So overall this hotel comes highly recommended. Small niggles, and they were small, were 1) that they charged extra for all hot drinks - eg coffee - ordered at the end of dinner. 2) there is no proper lounge area, though you can sit at the bar or in a small seating area nearby, though you may find it a bit smoky, 3) we were also used to afternoon tea and medals, from previous chalet holidays. The 'alternative' here seems to be to frequent the sauna. I suppose that at least with this option you put on less weight. 4) Wifi internet charging policy, per hour or per day, would have worked out prohibitively expensive, so was self-defeating - none of us used it. Smartphone £5 euro booster option much better, and the network coverage in the valley (with the A3 network) was remarkably good.

Hotel location was excellent, with two big lifts into the main skiing area located about 2 and 4 mins walk away. Good boot room at the hotel too, with plenty of heated 'rod inserts' available for drying all your boots.

Town is great too, plenty of nightlife options - recommend the Kitzloch for apres ski. Could have maybe done with a Mooserwirt on the slopes (ref St Anton), but this was a good alternative. Warnings re seedy nightlife shouldn't worry anyone, very simply don't go in the lap dancing bars if thats not your scene - there's one or two but they hardly stand out.
Food on the mountain was good, but not stunning, and typically a lot cheaper than say France. On average we each paid about 12 Euros for an unextravagant lunch + drink.

The pistes were in top notch condition, perhaps the best of the season, due to 10ins the week before we arrived and another 6 on day 1. Off-piste was just amazing. And plenty of untracked powder left even after 6 days of no snow, and this was all accessible from lifts, without having to climb up. Brilliant. Seems there are few rocks beneath the snow either (though don't quote me). In fact I would say that off-piste was arguably safer than on-piste.

A previous reviewer said this was one of the two best resorts in Europe for off-piste. I dont think they were far wrong, though of course we struck lucky with the snowfalls. Note also that many visitors seem happy to stay on-piste, considerately leaving the fresh stuff for the rest of us.

There are not many English in this resort, which to us was something of a plus. The clientele are mainly from Holland, Scandinavia and Austria. In future years this may change...

Arrived in evening - friendly, efficient welcome and excellent meal. Room large and very comfortable ... two triple couches big bed TV, separate bathroom and large cloakroom. Temperature on the mountain was a bracing minus 28C but hotel was lovely and warm with its own warm ski storeroom. Help yourself large buffet breakfast with drinks service. Evening meals were 4 courses plus help yourself salad bar. The food was quite delicious. The head waitress was so friendlly and fluent in umpteen languages. The waitresses were in local costume and the family owners were visable and pleasant. We had to leave on an early coach (6.30) but they offered to get us breakfast before we left! For us - excellent.

Hotel is in a good location for ski lifts and just a short walk to the town centre. The room was spacious but could do with updating a bit. Free internet is provided in the reception, One thing the hotel lacked was a lounge area. In particular we noticed children had nowhere they could go except the restaurant in the evenings. Staff were friendly and very helpful, food was good.

Just felt we had to write a review to counter the previous comments as having stayed in the Alpina last Easter, we found the rooms spacious and comfortable and the service excellent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, and kindly organised a birthday cake for my son, as well as a special message on his pudding! The highlight of this hotel is the food, which was to die for! The breakfast was comprehensive, with hot and cold buffet, pretty much everything you could think of. The evening meals were of a very high standard and the gala dinner on the Thursday evening was quite exceptional. The hotel was close to the ski bus stop to allow quick and easy access to Ischgl, and a ski hire shop which had a very large range of ski and snowboarding equipment. Would recommend.

They double-booked us (or the person I spoke to on the phone lost the details of our booking). Then they tried to blame us! Extremely rude, worst hotel experience I've had in all my travels around the world. The double-booking was bad enough, their treatment of us was unbelievably rude and unfair. Absolutely flabbergasted - and outraged.
