We spent 6 nights in the Galtenrberg over Easter with a 5 and a 3 year old. We were picked up at Innsbruck airport and the drive took 50 min. The van had 2 child safety seats that we had requested. At the hotel we were greeted with champagne and taken to our room which was a K5 suite. The suite had a separate bedroom for the children with bunkbeds and cot for our 3 year old that we had requested. The bunkbeds were great as they also have safetybars so the children cannot fall out. We were also able to borrow a night light from the hotel and the phone can be turned into a baby-phone (that calls your cell phone) which was great as we left our our youngest asleep in bed while we had dinner. The food was great and so was the wine. Our 5 year old attended ski-school which was just outside the hotel. On the last 2 days of her school she had progressed enough to go to the top of the mountain where she and 2 other children had 1 ski instructor the whole day. She stayed with them from 09.30 to 15.15 and had lunch with them as well. Our youngest went to the day-care facility which I thought was quite nice and clean. However, my only complaint would be that not all the women working there were equally great with the kids. I thought they could have come up with more fun activities, especially in the morning when we left them there and they were not particularly happy...
The ski resort is great if you are not an extremely advanced skier and through the hotel you get a discount on ski-rental and in total it was not too bad. P.S. Ski-schools are closed on Saturdays. The pool was nice after a long day of skiing. We did not try the Spa.

We have just come back from a 4 day trip to Alpbach at Hotel Galtenberg. Great hotel - just an hour away from Innsbruck (the hotel arranged transport to & from the airport for around 70 Euros each way). Room was great (we had a K4 for 2 adults a toddler and a 3 year old which was fine - bit 'cosy' but nice). Its lovely inside the hotel, especially the reception bar area.
Food was really good (we are vegetarian but still ate very well - apart from lunchtime where there was no vege option apart from pasta and salad.) The service was OK - most staff were quite friendly apart from weird goings on in the dining room where you had to sit at the same table every morning and evening and staff a bit unhelpful at times.
Skiing is good from the hotel - perfect for intermediates and probably not good for those wanting a varied and exciting week of skiing - there was probably not enough variety for longer than 3-4 days. Lift is right outside hotel and ski shop 5 mins walk away.

Childcare was a real problem though - we were very excited about our trip which included childcare - kids club was essentially open from 9-9pm. However, the staff hardly spoke any English despite the lady on the phone telling us they spoke fluently. Some spoke a little English but definitely not enough to calm down a crying child and make them feel comfortable. There were really only 3 staff there at any time and could be up to 15 kids including tiny babies - they needed 1-1 attention which if they got was at the neglect of the other kids there. The facility itself was good, but I didnt really feel comfortable leaving my kids there alone which meant I hardly skied! If I went back again - which I would - I would go back with another family or 2 so we could take it in turns to stay with the kids or ski together.
Pool is lovely and clean - nice atmosphere in the hotel and overall a good trip.

We stayed at Galtenberg with the family in the peak ski season. A nice hotel, decent food and friendly staff. A bit too crowded for our liking as parents, but the kids still had a good time. We had a problem with our room though. We had a direct confirmed booking for a K7 family suite, but got a K2 (which is more like a broom closet for four). The staff did try to work something out, and we got compensated, but sttill it was not what we came for. I would suggest that if you stay at this hotel, you make double sure that you get what you booked!

Stayed at this hotel last summer. They tried to give us a room diferent to the one requested and paid for.

The hotel was ok except for the flies. There were flies all over the dining room, in the food..... everywhere (I am not exagerating). When we complianed we were told this is country life in Austria and tough luck.....

Stay away from the place in the summer time........ believe me the flies are swarming around the dining room, it is revolting....

Hotel Galtenberg in Alpbach Austria was a wonderful place to spend time together as a family. My parents came with us and our two children, as well as a single friend. We were greeted with champagne, and an organized reservation. Our family room (K5) was extremely clean and modern. The kids room was well equipped with a bunk bed, and an additional bed. Our bed was comfortable with nice pillows and blankets and sheets that appeared very clean. Our bathroom was modern and impecably clean. The meals were well prepared with a decent selection. Each night was a different format for the meals, plated, buffet, plated main dish, buffet for sides, etc... The breakfast was wonderful with omelettes, croissants, bacon, cereal, fruit, yogurt, etc.. The lunch and afternoon snack left a bit to be desired as the selection was minimal. There was always water and juice on hand, but I wish there would have been some soft drinks as well. Inneralpbach doesn't have much in the way of things to do, Alpbach had a bit more commerce. We took the shuttle to Alpbach and the horse and carriage ride (12 euros per adult) up part of the mountain to a great restaurant for a drink. Well worth it. We also skiied (alpine) and x country and both were great. The hills (alpine) were a bit busy in some parts (on a friday) and quite busy (on saturday). There was enough runs though to stay busy for a day. The child care at the hotel involves one main room (kinder paradise). I wouldn't say it is a paradise, but it was adequate to keep them busy. The child care minders were fine, they really didn't go out of their way to do too much with the kids, they basically were just supervising. The pool was nice, and the wellness area nice. There is a big screen tv in the sauna which was neat. The night life was fairly non existent at the hotel, but the bar staff was helpful. We went on a torch walk at night, which was nice, but was pretty much just up a road, it would have been neat to go through the forest a bit or something more adventurous. All in all, it was a fine establishment, and we had a nice time.

We have just returned from an excellent 5 days at the Galtenberg. All you can want for a family skiing holiday - very comfortable accomodation, creche for the kids and close to the slopes with a lovely skiing area. Excellent spa and swimming pool, and good, Austrian food. We will return.

You need to be aware of the following:  1)Our accomodation was not what we expected. We were told we would be in the annexe and we expected to be in a building of the same standard connected to the hotel. We ended up in a ski-lodge (belonging to someone else we believe), off the premises on the 3rd floor without a lift, in the lee (corner of an attic) in tiny, cramped and unventilated accomodation, there was no phone connection to the hotel. Every day we had to take what we needed in bags to the hotel sometimes in the rain. The room wasn't cleaned one of the days and we ended up having to buy our own toilet paper as they failed to replenish this. The accomodation was of a standard far below the hotel. When we spoke to the hotel management about it, we were at first told that that was "where they put the people who don't want to pay full price". Bar the insult and the potential translation errors this was incorrect. We hadn't asked for the "cheap" room and we did pay full price. The pictures of the room on the internet we were directed to at the time of inquiry as being available did not represent the type of room we ended up getting. When we first complained about the room, we were told that we would be moved within a few days. We weren't. When we went to complain again about it they didn't want to know and the response was that they were a family hotel and not part of a big chain. So they have no idea how to deal with complaints, in fact they just don't deal with them.
2)  The all-inclusive package did not turn out to be as we expeted All-inclusive means full board and you get the house red & white wines and beer during your dinner for free ONLY. Oh and you do get tea and coffee for free during the day, but you have to pay for it separateley after dinner. Do not go expecting free drinks all day and night - this is not the case!!!! Do not go expecting that the activities are free - this is not the case!!!! Oh did I forget to mention that you also get free water and a choice of 2 juices also all day and night. .  3) We hadn't expected that we would need a car as we thought from the website that there was such a huge list of activities in the hotel however we found some activities are miles away in other villages and we ended up getting a car.
Besides this and believe me this annoyed us a lot, we actually had a very nice holiday.  Our kids had a fantastic time as there were lots of other kids there.  The staff in the kids playroom were excellent. The staff in general, bar one of the management were extremely good and polite and helpful and the atmosphere is so laid back its horizontal.
In conclusion, we would not go back to this hotel because we felt we did not get what we paid for, we felt insulted when we complained, and they just didn't want to know about it to the point of rudeness and disinterest.
