Hotel Alphof
Ranked #4 of 9 Hotels in Alpbach

Having read some negative reviews on here, it was with some trepidation that we approached the Alphof Hotel. After a week staying there in February 2014, I can only say that those who wrote the negative reviews must either be talking about a different hotel or have impossibly high standards. The only negative thing is the smoky bar - so don't go in it if you don't like smoky bars, which I hasten to add, I don't. Not a major problem though it is the first impression of the hotel which is unfortunate. So, that's the bad thing out of the way, now for the rest:
The food is excellent: great choice at the breakfast buffet, really nice food at night too. All typically Austrian. If you want British or international, go somewhere else.
Décor: again typically Austrian, ie charming and beautiful. Lots of wood.
Staff: friendly, helpful, but not sure how many of them speak English. I speak German so not a problem for me. Hilarious translations on daily menus ('goulash of young cattle') and weather reports ('in some valleys of the hair dryer will be upheld') - only added to our enjoyment of the holiday however.
Skibus stops outside hotel three times in morning and again returns to hotel three times in afternoon, so if you catch the right one, you don't need to walk up from the village.
Hotel is very popular with German guests. Brits who live in the past and dislike German guests, stay away. Personally, I'd rather have the German guests than hordes of Brits anyway (and I am British.)
Facilities: nice swimming pool but small. Really nice sauna area with two saunas and a steam room.
Bedroom: ours was fab. Bathroom décor a little old fashioned but spotlessly clean and everything in perfect working order. Austrian twin beds, balcony, sitting area, nicely decorated in main room. Towels provided along with robes for pool/sauna area.

First of all I would like to address the negative reviews on here....are you sure your talking about this hotel?? We stayed for a week in the Alphof and it was a real treat, the facilities...swimming pool, three saunas and relaxation rooms are just what you need after a day on the slopes! Our two young children were entertained with the play room and pool! The staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough for you. I was worried after reading misguided reviews on here that the smoking would be an issue, however it was not an issue whatsoever. Of course you get the occasional whiff if your walking through the bar but this is Austria! The food is just delicious, we did plan to eat out a few nights but the menu was so tempting we stayed in every night. As frequent visitors to Alpbach we have stayed in most hotels and guest houses but this was a real treat and the same friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Our two children loved every minute. The room was very spacious and clean. I would highly recommend this to anyone lucky enough to be visiting this wonderful village. We have already booked for next year!

First visit to the Alphof and thought the hotel & amenities were 1st class. Food reasonable & staff helpful & friendly especially the bar manager who was excellent. Our room was clean & although not refurbished was adequate. The only downside to a stay here is the location as it is uphill & quite a walk from the village although there are 3 ski buses which stop outside the hotel in the morning & 3 in the afternoon although these can get quite crowded. This would not however prevent us visiting this hotel again.

Very pleasant stay for ski-ing holiday. Great staff and enjoyed the food. Did not like the smoking policy in the bar and also being excluded from the bar one evening for a private function.
Would certainly go again. Good value.

Room Tip: We liked our room as it was spacious but had only a skylight window. I was happy to give up the view...

This was our fourth time to the Hotel Alphof and the friendliness and "nothing is too much trouble" was brilliant as always. The room had been refurbished and the whole hotel was worth every penny. Thank you Alphof.... see you next year.

We have just returned from a wonderful week at the Alphof. We took on board other guests comments made on trip advisor before our stay but we were pleasantly surprised. The staff were friendly, the food was excellent (the translation sometimes made us laugh!) Our room was large, with bath and balcony. I swam everyday in the pool and it was larger than I had imagined. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. If you decide to book the Alphof I hope you enjoy your stay. We did! We could not understand why there was so many negative comments on trip advisor.

The hotel room was very good (large and clean bedroom, very nice bathroom, stunning views; we even had a comfy living room and thoughtful coat racks at the entrance). Service was also very friendly and attentive. But the hotel lacks a good restaurant/bar for drinks and dinner. It cannot compete with Boglerhof (also 4* rating) just down the road (closer to the Convention Centre, and right next next to the bus stop for the shuttle) - which has a more refined and modern decor, a much nicer restaurant that serves buffet lunches, and where people entertain for business lunches and dinners. And Alphof couldn't even deliver wifi in the rooms.
