“Alpbach - not close enough to Australia!”
Reviewed March 24, 2013

The apartments and location has lured our family of 5 back to this property from Australia in January each year since our first visit in 2006.
The apartments are spotlessly clean and well kept to the point where a fridge light going out is cause for an apology when it is replaced ONLY within 90 minutes! The apartments are built in the traditional Tyrolean style with exposed wood throughout.
We first stayed here in Jan 2006 with our 3 children then aged 5,6 & 8. It is such as magic place it has become a second home for our family.
The location is ideal for families or those who want some room to spread out on their holidays.
There is a pathway down from the farm to the main ski Gondola (about 10 minutes walk down hill). In the afternoon you can either walk up (12-13 minutes) or take the free bus to the village and walk back on the slight down hill. It is also about a 10 minute slight up hill walk into the village in the other direction. You are close enough to go eat in the village or go buy some forgotten item yet far enough to appreciate the calm and quiet of the Austrian mountains.
In winter the children can use sleds, build snowmen and even igloos (photos to prove it) on the field directly next to the apartments. There is one farm further down the road so there is hardly any traffic through the day. The milk collection in the morning and people leaving to go skiing for the day about covers it. Our kids have fed the baby calves their milk as well as talk to the older cows. It was here we saw how lucky some cows can be - they get brushed daily and behave more like big kittens. Once they see the brush picked up they all compete to get your attention (and the first brush). For such large animals it is surprising how gentle they really are.
The only drawback is having to leave.

This place is not a real farm and it is not properly children's friendly. They do have 4 poor calfs stucked into a terrific room under the house and a few hans that cannot be seen if you do not lean out on a hole. The passage for reaching the calfas was a real mess, absolutely dangerous for both children and adults. There are 4 cats, one of them had a bad wound on its ear but nobody was caring of it. The children's playground is very old, poor and the most of the things are damaged and dangerous. Nothing is really secure for children, most of things are chaotic and dirty. There is also a small street between the main house and the playground where some cars drives not so rarely and you can never feel relaxed. The apartment we were in was ok (well I must say it was not really so clean, but good equipped) and also the Lady of the farm is a ncie person, but her husband is really unfair. We paid the high season tarif even if it was last week of June and I do not think this is correct, even if I accepted it without any claim. At the end I would never suggest to anybody with children to go there.
