Boutique Hotel Steinerwirt 1493
Ranked #15 of 63 Zell am See B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 19, 2013 via mobile

This will be the 4th time we've stayed at the Steinerwirt and it never fails to disappoint. The location is excellent it's just a short walk to either pick up the bus to ski school or to take the bubble up to the slopes. There is plenty of good restaurants including its own nearby, good bars & nightlife if you want it. The hotel staff are always friendly & helpful.

The decor is very modern & the rooms are very minimalist but if your out skiing all day & out in the evenings what else do you need. The breakfast is always fresh & plenty to choose from.

If I had a criticism at all would be that the bar area is very small and sometimes after skiing all day it would have been nice for us all to get together for a drink before we went to get ready for dinner, instead if which we went else where.

Hope to be back for a 5th time soon.

First of all, thank you very much for being such loyal guests. It is was a pleasure to welcome you again and I am happy you found Steinerwirt as pleasurable as in the past. The lack of a good bar area has come up a couple of times in the past. We have not found a solution yet, but trust me, we will keep working on the matter. Thanks for recommending us and see you next winter!

Kind regards,
Johannes

I spent 3 nights here in January with some friends and colleagues.
The service from the staff was excellent as were the meals and drinks.
Really handy for the bars, shops and ski lift.
I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a ski break.

Zell am See is one of our favourite ski destinations and though we normally stay in an apartment, we chose to book two rooms in the Steinerwirt Hotel for ourselves and our daughter for two weeks over the Christmas/New year period. Our booking was a combined half board and ski package which is really good value and getting the ski pass at the hotel saves standing in any queues to get these. The Steinerwirt restaurants have in the past been our traditional choice for a meal on arrival in Zell am See, and we were a little wary about eating the same type of traditional Austrian food on the slopes during the day as well as at the hotel at night. However, we discovered that the dinners at the Steinerwirt are varied and delicious gourmet style food, with a vegetarian option. The choice does have to made in the morning, but they are fairly flexible too. The breakfasts were superb and the evening meals not only substantial, but tasty and magnificently presented. The choice of wines is also good and recommendations made were impressive and most affordable. The only additional things we would have enjoyed in terms of food would have been the option to make coffee in the rooms - they do have a choice of black teas however- and perhaps a bit more salad/vegetables offered with dinner. There is no mini bar in the room and one has to recognise that the small bar downstairs is a smoking area, but there is a great outside bar opposite the front entrance and if one wishes to purchase sparkling water for in the room, there is the option of a Spar and Billa supermarket within 1 minute from the hotel. Our Christmas dinner was a wonderful occasion, shared in part by the same family who have owned the hotel for some 120 years. They are also constantly visible and active in running the hotel which ensures the personal touch! The position of the hotel is perfect, with it being in the heart of the town, which was great to enjoy the very festive New Year celebrations and for those of us more conservative folk, the "think tank" (a wonderful area in the hotel with access to the roof) was opened up with champagne offerings and great views of the fireworks. Our room (209) and our daughter's single room were not particularly large, but were very well designed, with ample storage space and more than adequate. My brother stayed in the same hotel a few years ago and his room was substantially larger, but was carpeted, and I prefer the cleanliness of the pine floors we had in our rooms. Everything is unfussy and exceptionally clean with really comfortable beds and the best pillows ever! The staff are truly wonderful - friendly and helpful in every way and make everyone feel very welcome. The clever fusion between modern and traditional old Austrian decor is refreshing and uncluttered. For people who stay there for a ski holiday, there is a downstairs ski storage room, and (although the pavements were not icy while we were there), the walk to the main CityXpress lift is up a bit of a hill (only 5 mins walk) and can be a little icy at times. As such, we had booked ski lockers at the Intersport CityXpress which worked really well and allowed us to enjoy easy apres ski without having to carry skis back every evening. The buses that take one to other ski areas such as Kaprun or Maiskogel are no more than two minutes walk away from the hotel and the train station is also really close, so one does not even need a taxi if taking the train. Although our family are all adults, there were a number of small children in various of the other parties staying at the hotel and they seemed to be catered for very well, and at no stage caused any irritation for ourselves. In terms of wellness, there is a sauna (robes provided at a cost of 6 Euros for the duration of your stay) with a great panorama of the mountains and there is also an outside jacuzzi. There are interesting artworks displayed on the walls which are also for sale, though perhaps a little large for the average airline traveller to think about purchasing without organising separate shipping? We would definitely stay at the Steinerwirt again and strongly recommend the hotel from every angle : service, cleanliness, decor, comfort, food, position, and great value for money.

We have just returned from our family winter holiday in Zell am See travelling with our kids 7 and 9 years old.
The hotel is right in the heart of Zell am See, a perfect location! A few steps from the CityXpresS lift station and from dowtown Zell am See, Very close to the lake also.
The accomodation was great - both modern and traditional, comforting and well organized. The room was spacious and was cleaned perfectly every day. The staff was frendly, always smiling and helpful. The food was incredibly delicious and always very well presented especially the dinner meals.

For a not professional skiers like us Zell am See was a very good choice as there are a lot of blue slopes that we reached both by the lifts and by the free shuttle buses. The free shuttle buses station is also a few steps from the hotel. You just need a ski pass that can be bought by the hotel reception and you will have an access to the whole Zell am See-Kaprun Area.

You can rent the ski equipment from Intersport CityXpresS and you will get a 10% discount as quests of Steinerwirt Hotel.

One of the afternoons we took the lift to Schmittenhohe 2000m and have a dinner at the panorama cafe which was a great experience and worth doing it. The view and the experience were extraordinary.

We definately recommend the place!

We stayed at this hotel for the first leg of our summer vacation. The hotel was recommended to us by a friend and it was fully worth it. Friendly staff, fantastic food, walking distance from any sort of transportation (Boat, Train, Bus) The family room we stayed at was a new experience with the bathroom built into the room but was spacious and very clean. The roof top was a nice relaxation to see the sunset over the green mountains as was to library for the kids to enjoy some reading. Plenty of restaurants and shopping in the area and the hotel holds ample leaflets and activity brochures for first timers (such as us) to keep busy Zell. Our favourite activity was a 10min stroll down to the water front through the shopping area! We missed the self-catering tea/coffee maker in the room but it was well complimented with free hot water in mugs whenever we wanted to have a hot cuppa in the room.

Great hotel in central Zell am see. Super value for what you get. Staff are very friendly and welcoming in the entire hotel especially the restaurant. Lovely clean hotel with well designed features, I usually hate pine furniture but here they have used it very well. Nice touches throughout, which shows very clever management. Would definitely come back in the Winter season. Lovely breakfast as their restaurant is one of the best in Zell am see. In Ireland this hotel would be marketed as a boutique hotel and would definitely be more expensive.
