We stayed in the Mavida for our honeymoon, 2 weeks in March 2012. And the reviews on tripadvisor we read before had well described what we could expect. The surroundings of the hotel are maybe not 100% romantic, with the village which has a bit of an industrial look, but the location between Zell am See and Caprun is excellent. Both ski areas are easy to reach (closest ski lift is about 7 min walk), with many, many lovely ski pistes.

Maybe the surroundings were not that romantic, the hotel was the more! The Mavida hotel is lovely, we had a nice room (to us it was not small, it is just the way the room is set up, with the bath in the middle of the room), the food is fantastic, every night a 5 course dinner (including the amuse) which you can choose yourself from a daily changing menu, the spa is romantic and calm, what more can we say... The service in general is good, although it's mainly the restaurant manager Andreas who gives you this feeling that you are special, so we would especially thank him for the lovely dinners & wines he served us!

The only thing that we were a bit dissapointed at, was the lack of a small honeymoon present when we arrived ;)

We stayed over the Easter weekend, family of four with two teenage daughters. The hotel is well designed and has a very contemporary feel. It's probably 10 minutes walk to the ski lift for Schmittenhoe, but we took the car, 10 mins in ski boots seems like an hour! There's masses of parking by the lift. We really enjoyed the skiing there and felt there was something for everyone. The hotel rooms are a good size and we liked the beds in the centre of the room making the best of the views of the mountains. Its probably not in the most popular part of Zell as its not directly on the lake, but this is more than made up for by the excellent spa facilities, charming bar and restaurant and friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant serves the best food we've ever eaten in a ski resort, and we like really good restaurants! Its not your classic mountain fayre, more fine dining. Zell itself is a very pretty little town, with stunning views. We couldn't find anything we didn't like about it, and the staff made you feel very special and that nothing was too much trouble. We'll certainly be back! Also best breakfast ever!!

After some serious research, we decided that a small town was would provide better value and cosiness than a big-time ski resort, and we were right - Zell Am See is quaint, friendly, and just the right size. We had full-board at the hotel which means breakfast, lunch, tea time, and a 4 course dinner daily, but if we didn't pick this option, I wonder where in town we could find a decent meal since pizza joints were a plenty but not much else in plain view. Like other reviewers mentioned, the food at the hotel is simply amazing - kudos to these top chefs.

Room size is fine - I can't really comprehend why some reviewers complained about it being too small. My only conclusion is that these reviewers are much too large.

3 main quibbles:

(1) Internet - we could not receive WIFI reception in our room (219), and had to resort to old fashioned ethernet, which a cable was provided by the hotel but it was not long enough to allow you freedom to place anywhere. Once connected, the speed is a snail's pace akin to dial up, but would spike to decent speeds once in a while only to fall back to super slow again. Will challenge even the most patient people!

(2) Beds - the mattress and pillows are super soft by default, although you are given a choice to change to a firmer option - we didn't bother.

(3) Full board includes all food but the hotel wasn't very clear on the inclusion of beverages - we had to ask several times and was explained the fine print. In a nut shell, all breakfast beverages are covered but all other drinks through-out the day are additional. Keep this in mind before you decide to splurge on booze during dinner while expecting freebies.

Room Tip: I requested a room with balcony facing the pool as per another reviewer's suggestion. Good tip...

Can`t really understand the hype ... - Hotel of the year 2011 ? ... beg to differ ...

Pros:

Very very good food ... - restaurant delivers to 1 Mich. * standard - constantly ... we`ve never eaten better in a ski resort on half board ... really good

Our room - we booked their "Mavida-suite" - top end on their "room menu" ... nice - large - all the trimmings ... so yes ... A + again

Design elements and whole atmosphare - inside though - nice as well ... - chill out & feel good factors high ....

Con´s:

Zell am See/Kaprun skiing area smallìsh for ambitious skiers ... - after 6 days it does become a bit boring ..

Staff often not trained enough ... - overwhelmed ... also in their SPA

Free "Fingerfood" in the afternoon repetetive and again staff not able to cope with the onslaught ..

Recpetion staff friendly ok .. - but not helpfull at all when i discovered my new pair of ski´s where nicked on thier premises ... - no reaction at all ... - "your problem sir.... " well not ... i believe ..

Main issue for me ... Value for money ... - 2 adults 2 kids - including 2 Skipasses for 6 days - 2 btls/wine per day.. soft drinks (the usual...) - 7000.- Euros/7 days... .... hmmmm ... for 5 K i`d say yes .. will come again ... but itjust deosn`t feel rite ...

I stayed in the hotel for about 2 weeks and I can say that it is the best place to stay when in Zell am See or Kaprun.
Great atmosphere, beautiful design, friendly staff, great food, the best Apres Ski, comfortable, clean and spacious rooms.
If you go with a skiing purpose, its just a 2 mins drive to Schmitten ski area.

The hotel turns the house keeper storage room to be a guest room. It's not in guest room area. it is in elavator hall so there is a lot of the noise of people coming in and out. In middle of the night, there was a badly smell from kitchen smoke downstair.
So if the reservation ask you whether you'd like to take a room without balcony, then you should say "No". If you would like to stay near the lake or see a good view of Zell am see, pls stay away from this hotel. The hotel is in middle of residence. one side is next to their sister hotel. the other are local road, train track and parking lot. So reconsider it if you think it is a beautiful hotel for you vacation. I always think people with bad reviews maybe in bad luck. but not in this case.
One good thing is happens for me in this hotel: Food and service is really good.

Room Tip: Do not take room ext to railway track. or room with parking lot. the best view you can get is deadly...

We spent a few days in the summer at Mavida.

The room was nice but, as others have said, it was small. Yes, its Europe but it was even small for Europe - and we were in the larger room with a seperate tub in the room and a shower stall. There was only one spot where we could open up our suitcases fully. It wasn't the end of the world, but it is a consideration. The room itself was nice and the tub was very nice.

The other thing that was disappointing was being right beside the train tracks - we definitely didn't know about that and our room had a view right over the tracks. The upside of that room is you get a view north, east and south but if we could have that call back we would definitely have opted for one of the north facing rooms with a view over the pool. Something to keep in mind when picking your room.

Also, keep in mind in summer that it can get hot - and there is no air con in most places in Europe. It was cooking the first night but they fortunately did have a fan they could provide.

The full board food deal was great - very good food for dinner and a nice breakfast buffet (we never had a lunch but I suspect it would have been good as well).

The pool area was nice and the spa was good (my wife used it for a massage).

The location is good but its a 10-20 minute walk to get to the main restaurant area if you are eating out (north in Zell Am See proper).

Internet is free as well; always appreciated.

All together, it was good value but the small room and train tracks kinda detracted from the experience.

Room Tip: Get a view over the pool
