Which is what we christened it! Party of 8 skiing and it is a superb venue. Very old but with modern facilities. A 7/8 minute walk from te gondola. Staff very helpful and there is a wonderful old fashioned bar. Town lovely - skiing - no better than OK - we felt that some of the slope grading was ridiculous.

Room Tip: Go high which avoids some of the noise you always have in a town centre

This was our fifth time in Zell and we chose the Lebzelter for its location. We'd previously stayed a 5 min walk out of town, in a hotel we loved but where we were disinclined to venture out after dinner and after four years we thought we should try a change. We had read all the TA reviews so we requested and received a quiet room for us parents. Our teens were not so lucky and their room faced the busy and noisy street but they turned off their radiator, kept the window closed and were fine - they will bring ear plugs and eye masks next time. They weren't happy with the church bells either but you can hear them from many locations in and around town. We were very happy with the food and the service we received from the hotel. I am gluten intolerant and one daughter is lactose intolerant so we aren't everyone's favourite guests but the Lebzelter happily provided tailored versions of dinner for us each evening and a full dairy and gluten free breakfast for us - we were never made to feel awkward or troublesome and we really appreciated this.
We loved the Cellar Bar and its super welcoming bar man - it's got a great playlist and at just the right volume for conversation - it is perfect.
From a skiing point of view you are very close to the ski bus and ski rental area and we rented lockers at the lift just to make life even easier. So all in all we were very happy with the Lebzelter and will chose it again for what will be our sixth visit to Zell.

I'm not normally one to write a review, but felt that based on the unfair reviews given by others it was warranted. We've just returned and can't fault the staff for their friendliness and assistance whenever requested. The hotel itself has great character and is located an easy 5 minute walk to the chairlift up to mittlestation, or an even easier walk the other way down to the lake. The wellness centre is alright - a jacuzzi would be a nice addition, but it's possibly asking a bit much. The cellar bar is fantastic and the guy that runs it is fantastic. The food in the restaurant couldn't be faulted (remember that you'll be eating lots of pork!). The rooms are fairly basic, but you aren't coming to Zell am See to sit in your room so there isn't much to complain about there (other than the showers, they seem to be unsure whether they want to be on hot or cold at times).

I've stayed at the Lebzelter twice, both times on bike tours of the Tauern valley. The hotel is very well situated right in the center of town, convenient to the lake, the train station, and the mountain lifts.

Our room was perfectly fine, albeit a bit spartan in decor. The bathroom was somewhat dated, but fine, although the light setup was a bit weird, being on an automatic switch as I recall, which made late-night bathroom visits a bright affair for everyone in the room.

Despite what others have written, we found the breakfast buffet to have plenty of choices and to be of good quality. We took the half-board option, which was a very good value compared with other restaurants in the area (we walked around looking at other restaurants before coming back and choosing to take the half-board option). Yes, there are only 2-3 options on the half-board menu, but this is common practice with other hotels, too. The entrees were of good quality, but were pretty standard fare. The salad buffet was very welcome and was of good quality, as was the dessert buffet.

The hotel was very bicycle friendly, allowing us to store our bicycles in a closed, locked garage.

Because of its location in the very center of town, it can be a bit noisy if you have the windows open. Not really their fault. Anyone staying in a town of any size in Europe should bring earplugs if they are a light sleeper. We didn't note any excessive noise between rooms or from the hallway. In fact, they have a unique double-door setup between the hall and the rooms, which definitely cuts down on hallway noise.

The Hotel is very well situated, just at the centre of the town, five minutes walking distance to the Lake, some staff very arrogant in reception, specially the thin lady with dark hair, not very interested in service and not very helpfull, the room is spacious and clean, breakfast and dinner very basic, almost the same food everyday in breakfast, no variety, no fried eggs, no bacon etc, scrambled eggs every day. During the breakfast, you need to select what you will eat at dinner (choice between two types of menu), very repetitive also. Be prepared for the early check out of the room, at 10:00 in the morning you have to vacate the room. We travel a lot to Austria, and we love the country side, there is always plenty to do, in town there are many restaurants worth visiting at a reasonable price and very good food quality.
We will definitely come back to Austria and Zell am See, but never again to the Lebzelter

Husband and i stayed at the hotel for 2 nights during our european tour on our motorbike We were there at the end of august.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the owner offering to garage our motorbike instead of just leaving it in the carpark at the back of the hotel. The breakfast was the usual buffet style and there was plenty of choice and unlimited coffee. This was my husbands 5th or 6th time at the hotel and my first. Will be back. We had a great time and felt very welcome by the owners and staff.

After having walked down from the mountain we ordered lunch. Whilst waiting for our lunch to arrive (and drinking our beverages) we played some cards to keep our 12 year old occupied. We were very gruffly 'told off' "no cards, no cards" by the patron. It was shocking and tables around us stared as it was so very unfriendly. We had to wait quite some time for food (not unexpected as it was very busy), and were sorely tempted to leave before it arrived. The manner of the telling-off is what upset us. A friendly request for us to stop, or even a small explanation, would have been nice. It really showed what a money-grabbing tourist trap the centre of Zell am See has become and how the hostelries now treat passing trade. Went back to Kirchberg in Tirol the following day and played cards to our hearts' content without trouble. Lebzelter; no THANKS!
