Just returned after spending a week at the Tirolerhof. Having read the reviews, prior to our visit, we were expecting alot and were not disappointed. The standard of service and hotel cleanliness could not be faulted. The buffet breakfast and evening meals were all of excellent quality and our waitress was extremely polite and attentive, as in fact were all of the staff. Yes, you have to pay for the bottled water during your evening meal but most hotels charge, don't they? The bottled wine at evening meal can be expensive, but try the half litre carafe at 8 euros (far better value).
The Pool and Spa area were outstanding and provided a relaxing retreat. Most people were very discrete in the sauna, don't be put off!!
We were fortunate that the weather throughout was fantastic (Up to 29 degrees and very sunny) so I suppose we were spoilt with spectacular scenery and able to make the most of the many well defined walks on the mountain routes.
We found the location of Zell am See very convenient for trips to Grofsglockner, Kitzsteinhorn, Saalbach, etc.
One money saving item was the six day pass for the lifts and bus travel.
Couldn't fault it really. Will most definately return

This is simply the best hotel I have ever stayed in. This is 5 star luxury. Spotless, attention to detail, food & friendliness. Fantastic.
Iam not usually given to commenting on hotels but this truly does
deserve praise.
Will be going back again.

We have been returning to this hotel year after year for over 10 years, and it is interesting to note that most other guests we met are also multiple repeat visitors.

Everything about this hotel is excellent, the staff are friendly, courteous, helpful without exception. The rooms are imaculate as is the whole hotel. The pool and spa area is also excellent after a long day walking in the mountains.

The food is stunning, with an excellent choice, the sald bar in particular is worthy of mention. The themed evenings where also a delight.

One contributor has commented about the poor quality of food, lack of choice of bread, poor fried eggs, fish, meat etc these statements are simply not correct. The meat was always superb with many guests commenting about its quality. Oh yes the fried eggs if you require such an item are cooked fresh directly in front of you !!, at one breakfast I counted at least seven different types of bread available !!. Perhaps this person stayed at a different hotel ? .

Read the other contributions for a true balanced view of the hotel.

We have stayed at this hotel over the last 10 yrs for 7 times, we have stayed in the winter, spring and summer. Mrs Posch continualy updates the hotel and ensures it is spotless. We always request a high floor room and the hotel always oblige. The spa area is fantastic, for what you pay for a week the quality is brilliant. Location is great too, 5 minutes from the lake and the centre of Zell. 10 minutes to the cable car.
The bar is great and Thursday night bingo with Hans is a enjoyable evening. We have travelled in Austria, Switzerland and Italy, and we can't find a hotel to beat the Tirolerhof for the cost and the cleanliness which is why we go keep going back. The number of repeat guests is amazing and proves that it is a excellent choice for a week in Zell am See. Yes the stream is loud but if you get a room on that side you at least have a lake view, after a couple of nights you get used to the noise, there could be much worse noises that would keep you awake. Breakfast - there is so much choice and fresh eggs cooked to your request, salad bar on a night is great too! The hotel is 4*, I would rate it as 5* without a doubt.

Just had a week here with 3 adults, 1 teenager and 2 under tens.
We have stayed in various 4 star hotels in Italy and USA and all agreed this was the best by far. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious enough with 3 in each room and they were spotless.

We enjoyed all the food, it may not be to some tastes with wild boar, venison and veal all featuring but we could not fault the presentation and taste of anything, it was high quality restaurant standard every day. There is a seperate childrens menu each evening and we were able to make slight adjustments if required ie french fries instead of mashed potato and ice cream in place of wild berry jelly, they were very accomodating but on the whole we left the menu as it was.

Our room was in the old part and overlooked the stream which was quite noisy with the door open but if you don't want to hear it at night just close the door, the double glazing is good enough to silence it. We loved the little notes and chocolates which were left in the room each evening and the newsletter you received with breakfast every morning.

The spa facilities and pool were excellent but on sunny days you can make use of the free entrance to the Lido which the children loved. The hotel is in a quiet spot yet only a minute away from shops, restaurants and bars and close to the bus and train station. We found it to be a great base for walking and trips further afield and give it a 10 overall!

Paul from Halifax

Just returned from a weeks holiday at the Tirolerhof (4 adults and 4 children) and we will certainly return to Austria, Zellamsee and in particular this hotel.

Paid 150 euros each way to the hotel to transfer our party of 8 to/from Salzburg airport and this worked very well. Local taxis will transfer you to the airport for 120 euros. Although the weather was mixed during our stay there was plently to do in and around Zellamsee to entertain the 4 children in our party. Most activities are not cheap. We also made full use of the pool and other facilities in the hotel that were excellent.

The food in the hotel was generally very good although vegetables were lacking with main meals. This is only a minor complaint as the waiter service and 5 course evening meal were very good. I agree with other reviews that water should be provided free with evening meals. We spent in the region of £50 on water with evening meals alone.

Stayed in 1 delux room and 2 junior suits in the new block and on the whole the rooms were excellent. There was a bit of noise from the stream at the back of the hotel in the delux room and the air conditioning did not work. Children said that sofa beds were very hard in the junior suits.

I did not expect much in the way of entertainment in the hotel but it was actually okay.

Austria is not a cheap place to visit but this is more than compensated by fantastic scenery and warm and friendly people. We have done our fair share of beach, cruise and other holidays but we all agreed that Austria is up there with the best. We will definately return to Austria, Zellamsee and I would recommend this hotel to all ages.

I cannot agree with some of the negative reports about this hotel as it is one of the best. Two of our party have always stayed at the Grand Hotel and they both preferred the Tirolerhof.

We are still very sorry to read about your feelings of our hotel. Apparently you experienced a sequence of unfortunate circumstances! The tastes of our guests are different, but we always try to satisfy each and everyone. It seems that it didn’t work in that case. To be fair we could add a few photos from our buffet and dishes and the view from the balcony! Just send us an email if you wish an update.
