“A Warm Inviting Hotel..”
Reviewed February 1, 2012

This hotel is a beautiful warm welcoming clean hotel and good for skiing, Rooms are lovely warm, and comfortable and cleaned twice a day, although we never felt like the cleaners intruded on us once. We had a standard room in the newer part of the hotel which had a massive balcony over looking the mountain and ski slopes which is a great view every morning. Staff are friendly here and helpful. A free ski bus will take you to the bus station or Ski Lift in town each day which is well worth using, as even though its not far its a trudge with heavy ski's and boots on... Room had a Flat screen TV which we never watched we just had radio 1 tuned in. Free safe and fridge Sofa and table, shower and small bath & hair dryer. The basement to the hotel has a large spa area (nude area) and pool which was rather cold, but after a hard days ski we used the spa a area every single day without fail.
Only downside to this hotel is probably the dining, although breakfast is excellent has everything except my favourite porridge but you cant have it all can you! Anyway evening meals where 5 courses which where on the most part a little off the wall to say the least. I am one of those persons who considers herself to be adventurous but sometimes the dishes where almost bordering on strange, some of the staff would laugh a little as they tried to explain the menu for that night. You basically get 2 choices of main one of which was normally fish the other veal, as brits we tend not to eat veal on principe, I do like fish but found them to be rather bland tasting. There where some good points the salad bar was ok and the deserts are worth trying even if you dont understand what they are! We did find ourselves going over to Crazy dazies ext for apre ski and having a 5 oclock pizza just in case the dinner was't great. Having said all that after a few days they did offer to cook us dishes we asked for instead of some of the on menu dishes. Also the prices of drinks are a real rip off, 4.80eu for a beer and 4.50eu for a large coke at dinner !!! You can also have a very small glass of white wine for 2.20u or a bottle water for 4.50eu.
I do think in the Hotel they probably don't realise that even in a top restaurant or hotel in London it would probably be cheaper for a drink! Someone needs to tell these people, that its a bare face rip off for drinks, we did feel it a bit of an insult in kinda some way that they actually think we can afford that? .... and for that reason alone we will probably head to Soll next year..
So I wouldn't let my review stop you booking this hotel.. In fact id probably book this hotel again.. alternately you could probably eat out and head for happy hour somewhere and miss dinner altogether,.. just a suggestion .. lol
The town is beautiful so take your camera! and there is some nightlife we tried Crazy Dazie's, The Outsider, and the bar next to it, also both Irish bars. Find out where the happy hour is as its expensive otherwise! We didnt stay out late but there looked like a few good clubs including Club Viva looked awesome but we where where usually in bed early about 11ish as we where so tired from skiing.
Skiing is good I preferred the Skiing in Zell to Kaprun as its more sheltered and less high as I got altitude sickness up there, But a visit to Karpun is a must for summit pic and the Ice bar alone. We missed the ballooning and motocross at Kaprun on the 25th of jan by 3 days. But we did have a good week and the sun shone for 4 days so was a great trip... wherever we go next year it will be hard to beat the Zell and Tirolerhof Hotel.

Room Tip: Choose the standard room's there as good as they need to be.. andthey have a good balcony's

We have just returned from Zell am See spending a week at the Tirolerhof in a junior suite.(231)

I cannot praise this hotel highly enough, we had a wonderful time there, it's an extremely clean and welcoming enviroment. The staff were always courteous and helpful and the food was excellent.

Our room was on the second floor and overlooked the stream which as others have commented you can hear if you have the front windows open but the leaving the side door/window onto the balcony gives fresh air if you prefer to sleep with a window open as we chose to do. The stream didnt bother us at all in fact we found it quite a relaxing sound.

I travel extensively through business and spend weeks in hotels all over the world. This one is easily in the top five i have ever stayed in and we will most definately be back.

There are only two things i would do to add to the experience.

1) Tea and Coffee making facilities in the room
2) The bottled water served with dinner i felt was somewhat over priced at 4.50 Euros. I think this could be reduced somewhat.

Other than that, a wonderful experience, i cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Room Tip: Book a junior suite, they are worth it

We have just spent our third time at this Hotel, and it was fantastic. The room, staff and food was just perfect. We will certainley be staying at this Hotel again, as do many other guests that were staying at the same time as us, the 14th January 2012 for one week.

Room Tip: We had a Junior Suite on the first floor, above the Conservatory and it was very quiet.

We have just returned from a week's holiday in the Tirolerhof and found it to be one of the best hotels either of us has ever stayed in. It was immaculate throughout with extremely helpful and friendly staff. The food was plentiful and of very good quality and prices at the bar were very reasonable, certainly by UK standards. The hotel stands in a quiet street but is only a couple of minutes walk from the main part of town. We would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in Zell am See.

We stayed at the Tirolerhof in Zel am Zee, Austria from 23rd to 30th December 2011. We had stayed before, 10 years ago, and went back because we had had such a good time before. There were five adults in our party, three shared a junior suite and two shared a double room. 4 of the party were skiers with their own skis and poles, and the large ski-room with lockable storage proved very useful. The hotel runs a free ski-bus to the main ski locations. For the non skier there was plenty to do both in and out of the hotel. A member of staff conducts two-hour guided winter walks twice per week, the hotel lends walking poles free of charge. There is a free apres-ski snack every afternoon - hot dogs, pretzels etc.
The hotel has a fitness centre with a variety of sauna, steam rooms etc and a pool and jacuzzi. Free hot and cold drinks are available whilst relaxing. There is also a well equipped gym. These facilities are all free of charge, although be aware that nakedness is encouraged in the wellness centre, although no-one objected to us wearing costumes.
The new extension to the restaurant opened whilst we were staying but it is a short walk to the buffet bar for breakfast. Staff in the restaurant were couteous and helpful at all times. Food was excellent, both in choice and in quality, and the Christmas Gala dinners were fantastic.
Hotel staff are very keen to help at all times.
A friendly, clean and high quality hotel in an ideal location, with excellent facilities for skiers and non-skiers.

Room Tip: The junior suites are very roomy

After waiting 10 years to return did not disappoint. Service, rooms and homely feel still there. Love the half board with dinner as makes the ski day a pleasant finish. Love the new Resturant and bar, really can't fault this hotel... Deserves its 4 star premium, if not more.

We chose this hotel because the Grand was full booked and we are so glad we did. It was first rate and beyond what we expected the Posh family definitely know how to run a hotel. The service was efficient the food good and varied, breakfast are amazing with such a choice to suit all Nations. We arrive at 9.30pm and were offered full dinner menu. As it was my birthday while there I had a delicious cake and the Birthday Song!! We commented on the delicious chutney and asked where we could buy some only to be told that it was home made! We were presented with a sachet of it on our departure which was a nice touch. The room and beds and bathroom were fine, no complaints, we did not have a view just a small balcony but we were not in the room long enough. We found Zell am See delightful small town/village. We took advantage of some tour offers something we rarely do and were pleasantly surprised at how good value they were, we would recommend them. We booked through Thomsons (perhaps only one of 3 or 4 package tours we have ever done) and so enjoyed the experience that we have booked another with them for 2012 so hope to review another excellent hotel!! Watch out for my review of Thassos!!

Room Tip: I do believe the 'stream side' rooms would be noisy for some people.
