The Seehof in Zell am See offers clean rooms, lovely views and very helpful service. The best thing has to be the food though. It is simply delicious and you would be more than happy to be served such dishes in any restaurant. There is plenty of choice at both breakfast and dinner.
Internet available in the reception area.
TV in rooms with plenty of channels although obviously most of them are in German.
There are hotels nearer the slopes (if you are skiiing) but the walk is still manageable. The Seehof offers a clean room for skis and a heated boot-room.
Rooms were serviced daily and from both our rooms there was a beautiful view. As some other posters have mentioned, there is a railway line right beside the hotel but otherwise the area is quiet and we were so tired after skiing that the trains did not bother us at all.
Good skiiing in Zell; we enjoyed it. But beginners, be aware that you cannot ski to the bottom. Stay up high and come down in the lift when you are finished. This way you won't get into difficulty like we did!

We had a great holiday staying at the Seehof. The hotel was excellent and our room was overlooking the lake and had a terrific view.Although it also overlooked the railway we didn't find the noise from the trains particularly intrusive. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. It was such a relaxing holiday in a beatiful country. We would definately use this hotel again.

We had two rooms here - one single in the main building (very tiny but clean) and the family apartment. The family apartment had room for 3 on pull out couches in the living room plus a king bedroom. It was in a separate building just behind the main building. It included a full kitchen and a separate water closet. It worked great for our family - we had breakfast in the courtyard. There's a grocery store very close to the hotel so it was convenient to run over and get food for breakfast/lunch and much cheaper than eating out every meal. We did have one dinner in the hotel and it was very good. There is a church directly behind the hotel which has a loud bell that rings at 7 am but the location of the hotel was great. Parking was a little tight but was free. The service was great - the staff was very helpful.

Our room was spotlessly clean, although there was a terrible stench from the toilet which I think was more to do with the drains than the cleanliness. The room had a lovely view of the lake, and although it did seriously need updating it was servicable enough. The standard of food was ok and the staff were exceptionally nice. I would say that this hotel is in a very good spot and the trains didn't bother us or our children, but we were disappointed by the standard of the rooms.

We stayed in the apartment out the back of the hotel for the best part of a week recently and didn't make use of the hotel facilities, so this review is specific to the apartment.

We have been to Zell a few times, so we knew the location which was perfect really. I can see how the rooms at the front could suffer badly from noise from the railway which is really just a few metres across the road. The passenger trains aren't so bad because they're short, but this is also a busy freight line and those trains are lonnnnnnnnng and they squeal a lot. Having said all that the noise in the apartment isn't really that bad, certainly nothing to put me off staying there again. This may well be because the walls of the apartment are really thick, so they presumabty dull most of the noise.

We did hear the church bells early in the morning, but we regarded this as adding character. I think we woke because of the bells a few mornings, but that was fine as it meant we could get they day off to an early start by (one of us) heading off to the bakeries around the corner for some fresh bread.

The apartment is very central and is right behind the church which is right on the town square, so that gives you an idea of how central it is. I don't think you could get much nearer the centre. The apartment was well fitted out and well laid out. There is one twin bedroom at the back and a bathroom at the other side, with a seperate toilet in the middle. At the front there is a kitchen to one side with a small but workable table and on the other side is a small living room with sofa. While we were there the sofa was converted to a bed for us so we couldn't use it as a living room but that wasn't a big problem. There is also a large entrance hall with good storage where you can dump all your ski boots etc in winter or hiking gear in summer. Outside there is a table and some chairs - we used these a fair bit as the weather was good. Some people *might* have a problem with the views of kitchen staff going back and forth across the garden but it didn't cause us any problems.

We asked the hotel about borrowing bikes as some other hotels we had been in touch wth indicated they had bikes available for guests but the Seehof only had (I think) one bike while another was off being fixed.

All in all, I would recommend the apartment. It would probably be a bit of a squeeze in winter with 4 adults and all their associated ski gear, but if you weren't planning on staying indoors too much it would be OK. It is a fine size for 2 adults and 2 small children.

In winter it's not the nearest hotel to the Citi-Express lift but it's not exactly far either - easy walking distance but all uphill from the lake. On the plus side, it's all downhill on the way home in the evening.

In summer there are plenty of activities on the lake-front and it coudn't be easier to access - cross the (narrow) road, go under the railway in the underpass and you're on the lake front.
