“'Friedliest hotel in Zell am See'”
Reviewed February 6, 2014

Stayed here with my nephew during Janury for a weeks skiing. I have been to Zell a number of times and have tried a host of hotels but this is probably the friendliest of them all. While the standard of rooms, food and decor are all traditional and excellent, its the Sauper family that make this place stand out! Be it the get-together drink in the bar for all the guests or the minibus to the lifts in the morning, its these little attention to detail things that stand out. Well done to all involved in this very friendly hotel.

Skied one week in January.
All of the hotel staff were excellent nice room with a superb view of the lake.
Bit of road noise in the morning but quite during the night.
Well located for the city express lift about 5 mins walk down the hill where you can store you skis and boots over night.

We stayed here some 9 years ago for a wonderful Christmas ski holiday and found it to be just as good (if not better!) this time. The St Georg couldn't be in a better position, just 5 mins walk to the City Xpress Gondola Station and a further 5 mins to the pretty pedestrianised town centre. The Sauper Family and their excellent team are friendly and welcoming, food and service in the restaurant is superb.
Our warm and cosy room with a balcony was on the third floor overlooking the stream at the front of the hotel - a lovely bathroom with snow white towels and no shortage of hot water. Free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and complimentary afternoon snacks in the bar were the icing on the cake. Thank you for a wonderful stay, we'll visit again soon.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have the best views but if you like to sleep with the window open you may experie...

Location, room, facilities, food and above the friendly staff made this an excellent holiday. I can thoroughly recommend the St.Georg.

This being the second time we have been here we knew what to expect, and the St.Georg delivered.

Just returned from a week skiing and as we always check trip advisor it made sense for us to review, especially as this hotel deserves commending.
Location is good, 5 mins walk down a v gentle slope (walk up at end of day was always fine) from the main city express lift, a further 5 mins into the centre. You can hire a ski/ boot locker at city express but we used the ski locker room at the hotel with no problems.
Our room was lovely, 3rd floor with balcony overlooking mountain and lake. Plenty of storage room for all the winter jumpers.
Food was great, 4 courses every night, you pre order your evening main choice at breakfast, from a choice of 3. There is often a theme eg starter buffet/ pasta buffet/ desert buffet.
The only reason we didn't give a 5 was that the pool/ sauna facilities appeared a little dated and in need of some care/ upkeep (but were still good after a day on the slopes)

We stayed at Hotel St Georg over New Year for a skiing trip. The hotel has an old-fashioned charm about it which makes it a very relaxed place and welcoming place to stay. The rooms are a little dated, but comfortable and more than adequate. The hotel lounge area is particularly nice, with large sofas to enjoy. The food was consistently excellent and although there is no children's menu, there is a nightly choice of three main courses and the salad buffet is a very good back-up. The swimming pool was very good - it was a somewhat cold at the start of the week but became a few degrees warmer each day until it was bath-like! Perfect for post-skiing. The sauna area was good as well. We would stay here again.

The hotel is well positioned - only a short 5 minute walk downhill to the CityXpress gondola and a further few minutes to the old centre and the lakeside. The ski bus stop is almost directly outside the hotel, but the hotel also runs a free minibus to the Schmittenhohe lifts (which tend to be quieter).

From the moment the lovely Heidi on reception welcomed us back to the St George we felt immediately at home. Having been to the Hotel several times before but this time with our 11 week old daughter and in-laws we were slightly apprehensive how it would go-we needn't have been.
A spacious room beneath the imperious Schmittenhohe mountain with a stunning view for us and a balcony room with views of the lake for the in-laws we were thrilled from the start of our stay. A lovely table in the dining room to enjoy the tasty breakfasts and evening delights added to the experience-the food went down particularly well and although New Years Eve was classed as a 'gala experience' I thought that the food each night was very impressive-I'm very fussy and on several occasions was given something different thanks to the excellent Susannah one of our waitresses-she was particularly engaging and good for a giggle over dinner.
In all fairness, from Karl and Elvis in the bar and restaurant to Susannah, Livia and Diana our waitresses along with Heidi and the cleaners, the St Georg team were fantastic. Really excellent in every way even when things were busy! Led by family Sauper who also mucked in but were never too busy to chat without once being intrusive-they were constantly on hand to offer advice or chat about the day-Frau Sauper-the perfect hostess-even kidnapped my daughter for a tour of the hotel-priceless!
I took advantage of the morning bus with Herr Sauper up to Trass Express and the Cable Car although the City Express gondola is only 3-5 minutes walk (in ski boots!) and skied back daily via the Blue 16 run down. The boot room and storage facilities are also excellent with a lift direct to your chosen floor. The additional facilities in the 'Wellness Centre' didn't get the use they deserved but were very clean and we'll definitely take advantage next time.
Daily après ski snacks were tasty and varied in the cosy bar. Drinks weren't too pricy for Austria-almost 4 euros for a Large Kaiser beer which was comparable with the rest of Zell. Alas we had enough to cover the bar bill at the end of the holiday-I'd gladly have stayed all year washing up to pay off my debt!!
Downsides? After 4 visits I struggle to see any really or maybe I see past them because the good parts are that good? Christmas? New Year? February to experience the frozen lake? All stays have been superb and unique in their own way. Will I return? Definitely. If it's not broke why fix it? Thank you St Georg. Sincerely. It just keeps getting better and I can't wait to return-if you're looking for somewhere you arrive as a guest and leave as a friend then there's really nowhere better in Zell Am See
