We stayed in this marvellous hotel last year and could not believe how good it is so came again for a second longer visit this year. The hosts and their happy ,efficient team provide such a quiet superb service that all your needs are met without asking. The food is outstanding and every meal a treat. We have stayed in many hotels around the world and this is one of the best. It is in a good location for the town, walks, bus routes and trains. No need for a car. We have fallen for the charm and exhillaration of the Austrian Alps and no place could be better to come back to after a day out than the St Georg.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony if possible

We have just returned from our holiday and would highly recommend this hotel. We had a spacious room on the 2nd floor with a good sized balcony. Our room, and hotel as a whole, was spotlessly clean and the food was absolutely excellent. The staff were very helpful, efficient and attentive. Staying in such a nice hotel made the holiday very enjoyable, despite the fact that the weather was rather mixed. It is located up a short hill from the town centre, lake, transport and lifts, which made it easy to get out and about. The twice weekly light shows on the lake are well worth attending and there were some fabulous views from the Kitzsteinhorn mountain (worth going through the ice tunnel and visiting the cinema whilst you're up there). We purchased a 6 day ticket for 75 Euros pp, which allowed us to use all the lifts in the area, plus buses and also gave 10% discount on the lake cruise - well worth the money.

Room Tip: We would recommend requesting a room at the front of the hotel, with a balcony.

Situated just off a quiet road about 5 minutes walk from the town centre, staying here was a calm and peaceful experience.
In the restaurant the food was superb, with waiter service for the 5 course evening meals.
Bedrooms was spacious and comfortable.
Staff couldn't have been more helpful.
If you want a hotel which is situated away from the noise and bustle of the town centre (and I heard of other holidaymakers at different hotels in the resort complain about the road noise at night), then you won't better than this hotel.

We arrived at the St Georg having spent a lovely week in Kitzbuhel - we found the hotel quite dark and our room (205) was at the back of the hotel and looked out onto a bank of trees. It didn't have a balcony and was very dark. The room was clean but had very shabby furniture and I haven't seen a TV that old for years! The bed frame can only be described as green leather look plastic, there was a broken socket and a bedside table on one side only. The two chairs in the room had also seen better days. There was only the BBC World News channel that broadcast in English so in this day and age I would have expected a bit more choice. It is a little way from the town (up a hill) so be aware. The best bit about the hotel was the food - it was lovely - five courses each evening and we got a free glass of wine with the meal and a packed lunch due to booking through Inghams. They also offer free wi-fi but only in the bar area...

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room.

We visited Zell am See after a 20+ year absence. We had not had a vacation for many years because of business demands. The St. Georg was selected because of the mostly positive reviews on Tripadvisor. Our arrival was late because of a late flight from Dulles to Munich and then by train to Zell. Frau Sauper saw to it that we had a good dinner even though the dining room was closing for the evening. Our room was pleasant overlooking the street and the rushing stream (No. 214 for 5 nights) and the small church across the street. I loved the sound of the stream although some reviews complained about it. Some reviews commented about the furniture being a little "tired" and the TV not so great. These comments are somewhat justified. However, the room was very clean as was the bathroom which was adequate. The maid staff was excellent. We missed not having washcloths as we do in the US. We always felt items left in the room were safe. The location of the hotel was very convenient - just a short walk to the center of town. The food was excellent and a great variety. Delicious soup every dinner, great salad bar, and interesting main courses and deserts. Breakfast buffet had everything you could want with eggs cooked to order if desired, delicious breads and rolls, bacon, sausage, etc. The staff was always pleasant and very helpful. Livia was a great waitress. Karl was always very helpful. We met many interesting people from various countries. All seemed to enjoy the St. Georg as much as we did. No doubt we would stay at the St. Georg on our next visit to Zell.

Arriving late in a hot, humid afternoon, not in the best of tempers, our mood was soon changed by the friendly reception. The entrance hall was quiet, calm and cool and very inviting. After the necessary preliminary paper work was completed, we were shown up to our room on the second floor. Large, comfortable, cool and attached to a a well appointed bath/shower room, a spacious entrance hall containing ample storage for clothes and luggage, and a balcony with table and comfortable chairs completed the accommodation.

We booked half board and were presented with a five course menue at dinner time whose choices were of the highest standard in quality, service, presentation. The buffet breakfasts also consisted of a very wide range of dishes from simple fruit, through cerials, to Continental and English dishes; the choice is yours. Each morning with our breakfast, we were presented with a bulletin containing recommendations and tips for daily events around Zell and an accurate weather prediction.

With a sauna and swimming pool to return to in the afternoon and an outside area to sit in with a cool drink and attentive service when needed, there was little more that we could have asked for as a base for a relaxing summer holiday.

Having just read colvic37 review, (sadly I have to agree with him). This was our third stay at the
St Georg, and were very disappointed. We first stayed for a week in 2010 and were bowled over with the service we received from Family Sauper, Heidi and the rest of Hotel team, we stayed in room 208, this was spotless and Petra our room maid kept it like that for our stay including clean fresh towel's every day, variety of the meals were excellent, so we had no qualms in re-booking for a 2 week stay in 2011, requesting the same room via e-mail with Daniela,So you can imagine how pleased we were when got there and our room was waiting for us.Most staff had changed but Heidi, Petra and Karl still remained to our delight. Couple of other changes though ! English channels ended at 10pm, we were told it's because most English people go to sleep at this time ( how strange), food slightly different but still very good.
Again on the strength of this we re-booked again for 2012 for 2 weeks to stay in same room
we even decided not to go any other hotel in Austria but keep going back to Zell am See for as long as we could.
Oh how things can change! 2 weeks before we travelled we received an e-mail saying room 208 had suffered flood damage! but they would give us a better room on the third floor, but they did say that if room is repaired in time for our stay we would have our room back.
When we arrived late in the evening we were told 208 was not ready so we were given room 315 on top floor with a better view and nicer carpet.
Room smaller, outdated, sockets hanging of wall, TV old and remote worn, no English channels
reason for this to expensive, towels old and worn sometimes had holes in them and were not changed on a daily basis as previous years, food very poor compared to past stay's,
and to crown it all room 208 was finished and occupied.
Needless to say we are are going some were else next year
very sad because we got on so well with everyone even regarded them as friends

Room Tip: stay away from top floor
