“Stunning Room on the Lake”
Reviewed September 12, 2009

The most breathtaking view to wake up to in the morning! Picture perfect. Very clean and comfortable room. This was one of my favorite spots on my visit to Europe for it's beauty and serenity. I just wanted to sit on the deck all day and relax with a cup of tea and a pastry. Aaaaah.

A fantastic hotel located on the side of lake Zell and only a short walk from the town. The slopes are less than a 10 minute walk through the town. The bus to take you to the slopes stops about 50 yards from the front of the hotel.

Rooms are clean, well maintained with some very nice views. Food is excellent and the service is second to none.

My son has some severe food allergies. This hotel was excellent at dealing with these - the best I have found in Europe.
The rooms were also great...... although I was rather confused by the plumbing!!
Location for skiing was OK but not the best...... but great views over the (frozen) lake.

Fabulous view, lovely looking hotel, great food, highly expensive drinks... You could probably get the same for less money at one of the other big hotels and perhaps better decorated, I would say this was 3+ stars rather than 4 but for the food. But the balcony with that view of the lake is priceless.

I stayed a week there. The hotel is beautiful in an old world sort of way. It's truly elegant. Most of the staff are absolutely lovely and helpful. There was one waiter who came across as being a little rude but I think it might have just been that his English wasn't 100% and it made him come across as more abrupt than the others. The food was amazing. Something new and interesting on the menu every night. Small portions over sevceral courses which suited me perfectly because I wouldn't have a massive appetite but love to sample things. The bar is gorgeous with a huge television where we were able to watch obama's inaugaration together. It was a wonderful holiday and the fact that the hotel was so perfect was a lot of that.

I spent last weekend in this beautiful Grand hotel with the best position at lake site. I was looking forward for an unusuall experience, expected that hotel will be glamorous inside the same way how it looks on photos of the hotel. But equipment of rooms was very poor, max. 3 stars hotel level. Simple bathroom with plastic shower corner,no shampoo, condicioner, lotion, only two towels. No dressing-gown and slippers, even though hotel advert grand spa everywhere. By the way, even if you are stayign in the hotel, you have to pay 35 EUR for spa! Spacious room, but only one small simple wardrobe. Not comfortable bed,all furniture cheap anyway. Despite all these negatives I might go back there again, because the position is realy unique. And hotel manager definitely relay on that.. So if you expect high class hotel, not for you. If you want to be only a few steps from lake and you dont care about quality, go ahead!

Stayed at the Grand for one week 7th-14th Feb 09. First time skiing with my 2 young sons and also travelled with grandparents.
Upon arrival the staff are very friendly and helpful and gave us a tour round to show us where everything is. The facilities are excellent and the hotel is in a superb location on the lake and the view is breathtaking every morning. The location although superb for the view and position in the town is not very convenient for skiing. There is a bus just round the corner which takes you to the ski school area but with small children lugging lots of skis and boots this can be a bit of a drag. Unfortunately the closet cable car which is a 10-15 minute walk only caters for intermediate or advanced ski ers so its not an ideal choice for beginners but the position in Zell for walking out at night and to be on the lake is amazing. This shouldnt detract from the hotel itself however as the staff are extremely good, attentive and provide excellent service throughout.

The rooms are of a decent standard although in the main part of the hotel where we stayed I think they are little but tired. We had a room in the new annexe on the last day and I think these are a little more modern.

There is two halves to the hotel and 2 spa areas and the newer one charges €35 per day for its use (treatments extra) which I think is a little bit steep, my wife wasnt happy about this. This area does not allow children either but that was no problem for us as the main leisure area is also superb.
The food is also excellent is part buffet and part service but this is a good mixture and provides you with the best of both worlds. The breakfast is perfect and the bolied eggs were cooked to perfection every day. The evening meal was full of variety and had themed nights including Austrian on most nights which was brilliant.
Most nights provide entertainment in the form of a piano player or similar. "Ciko" the piano player won't be winning the X factor any time soon but my 7 year old thought he was amazing and demanded we watched him every night. If its a "bontempi" style keyboard extravaganza you are after Ciko can deliver! There are also other acts on throughout the week but its quite low key.
One final thing worth mentioning is the bar area which is fantastic and has a real log fire as a centrepiece which has a great seating area close to it- perfect for a gluewein after a long days skiing.

Value for money wise I would say it isn't particularly cheap but that may be as much to do with the weakness of the pound as with anything else.
