“Best vacation I ever had”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2013

Your hotel is one of the nicest I have ever stayed in. The spa rooms were fantastic! The spa was superior. We had a group of about 24 people and everyone was happy with the Grand Hotel. The skiing was superb, the town was quite memorable, and the ski races through town were very exciting. We had easy access to anything we wanted to do, from seeing Kitzbuhl and Salzburg to skiing to just relaxing. I was sad to see each day end. Would love to come and experience the beauty of Zell am See and your hotel in the summer. It looks like a wonderful place to be any time of the year.

Room Tip: Go for the spa rooms - they are spectacular. Some of the other rooms are a bit on the small side.

We have just returned from a week staying at the Grand Hotel and cannot fault the hotel. We had a lovely room with a lake view and a balcony with plenty of space, unusual for most ski resort hotels. Our welcome upon arrival was lovely with the reception staff taking time to show us to our room and around the hotel. Our luggage was handled for us and our skis taken to the ski room. The food every evening was delicious with three different menu's to choose from, a local menu, classic menu and a vegetarian option. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Our favourite spot of an evening was sitting at the bar, we must give a special mention to Conny and Ulrike who were very attentive and always had a friendly smile. The only slight negative was the waiter at our evening meal for part of the week, Andreas. We found him to be very abrupt and almost seem to resent having to speak English to us and other guests. He was much more friendly to other German guests around us taking time to ask how the meal was, never to us.
Overall we had a great week and would definitely return to the hotel and highly recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: A lake view room is a must and worth the extra

An excellent holiday in a beautiful hotel. This was meant to be a ski holiday but snow very poor-from slushy to icy and so we only skied 2 days-fortunately we hadn't bought a week's pass-so found lots of alternatives. Went to Salzburg twice on train-brilliant journey for 16 euros each return and saw all the sites. Another day was spent walking round the lake(about 10 miles)-with excellent coffee stops on way. We used hotel pool a lot-one of best hotel pools we've had. Can't understand all comments about food. I'm not a great meat eater and on at least 5 nights there was an excellent fish option, beautifully presented. Starters and sweet courses were light and beautifully prepared-no need to have beef broth(but my husband always did!) Only compaint was that if you were in one of the ante-rooms it took ages to carry all your breakfast requirements, tea, milk, fruit etc. back to table.
Room was good-and we were upgraded slightly-only disappointment was that on arrival(11p.m.)
the room lists showed us allocated to a room overlooking lake and away from trains-this had been changed. We asked why and were told it was because we were late-this was the fault of Monarch Airlines-not us!! On the positive side, we did have a side lake view and were not at all disturbed by trains!
We will definitely visit again-probably in summer-staff, meals, bar-everything was excellent!

The team at the hotel made our holiday the best ever. It could not have been more perfect and despite the snow not being great there was more than enough for our two girls (4 and 2) to do in and around the hotel. The food was outstanding, the staff could not have been more helpful and attentive and the general standard of everything was excellent. Two very small things - housekeeping seemed a bit hit and miss on resupplying shampoo and towels and the gym could have had a bit more equipment (more weights and a rowing machine perhaps) but this is very minor and a personal preference. We will definitely be coming back as soon as possible. Great memories of action packed days, hot chocolate and cake at tea time, early childrens supper, great babysitting service (both were English) and five courses of heavenly food every evening followed by a glass of wine at the bar listening to live music. Perfect!

Room Tip: Grand Suite

Checked in with our two kids (8 and 5) for a week of ski holidays. This was our second time at the Grand Hotel, main reason for turning back the spacious rooms and the super service. Both breakfast and dinner very good and friendly staff make your dinner more enjoyable. During the week I turned ill (pneumonia), all staff were extra helpfull. The maid changed bed linnen on a daily basis, medication was picked up etc. etc. Thanks to the staff we all had a perfect week.

Room Tip: View over the lake is recommended.

We stayed at the Grand in February 2013, the situation of the hotel is second to none right on the edge of the lake, and if you have a room with a lake view then it is picture post card.
There is a railway line that runs across the the entrance of the hotel, but the trains are not that frequent and in my opinion have no real impact on your stay.
Points to consider:
1) It is about a 5-10 min walk from the hotel to the nearest ski lift.
2) The shuttle provided by the hotel is very crowded.
3) The food is not what you would call hearty, it is a very fussy menu, with a lot of broth, fish dumplings, veal, and venison..... most of the meats looked like they could walk off your plate, raw.
When you come back from a day of skiing all you want is a good hearty meal , we ate out most of the time even though we where half board, not really catering for the English pallet.
4) No tea making facilities in the room
5) Charge you 1euro for water at dinner
7) The rooms are nice, but not Grand
8) The Spa is lovely, but you are not able to use all the Spa facilities unless you are in a suite and above.
9) Staff are efficient and helpful
10) The terrace is lovely in the afternoon if the sun comes out.

I think the hotel tries to be Grand, but does not quite make it, i would not stay there again not because i had a bed experience, but because for the money it charges we saw much better in the resort for half the price.
The only asset the hotel has is its location on the lake, other than that there are many more 3* hotels in the resort, with good rooms, nice food, and nearer to the express for half the price.

Room Tip: E-mail the hotel about a week before arrival and ask for a free upgrade, if they can they will. Req...

The location of this grand hotel was perfect being right on the edge of the lake. The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The rooms were a little basic for this category of hotel but were very clean and the maids kept the rooms well stocked and clean. Fresh apples were free in the room as was a bar of chocolate. The food in the restaurant was very good with some unusual dishes. One health and safety issue is that two members of our party burnt their hands quite badly on the bedside light fittings.
The spa was well worth a visit on the top floor. The sauna overlooked the lake as did the sunbeds. I booked a full massage which was very therapeutic after skiing. The local ski area was good for 3 or 4 days but a trip by bus to nearby Kaprun is well worth a visit with wide runs on the glacier. A wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Choose a luxury room with lake view and free spa included
