There is a lovley restaurant at the top of the gondola station - the Berg hotel and the views are amazing on a clear day. The food was very good in the self service cafeteria which is at the back of the main restaurant.

Good mix of blue and red pisted runs for intermediate skiers with low risk off track stuff to add to the challenges after fresh snow falls. If you want high speed and cover lots of kliks in a day ...this aint for you..well beyond the first hour or so :-) But if you want good runs with your kids, ski newbies without icy bits... carry on.

Always nice to be back but we hope that the owners of the skiarea don't make more space and cutting more trees. We love the Austrian charm of sking between the trees.

Just skied the first weekend of Feb 2013 here. Poor weather was a contributor to conditions but not the main issues. It's got some long runs down to the resort level ... but when I was there the bottom was slushy the first day and icy the second day. Granted, this was due to warm weather preceding our arrival then cold/snow which froze the slush. The upper and middle slopes are best. From the top to the mid-point gondola or chairs were my favorite runs. But the crowds were horrendous just before and after lunch. Way, way too crowded. Not to mention the too many ski schools all going on the same time. I did a couple of the backside runs. One (a black) was quite nice -- but getting to that run from the chairlift required hundreds of meters of poling on a very slightly downhill cat trail. Getting from the main mountain/hotel to the backside area also required about 100 meters of poling. Speaking of poling ... OMG what were the resort designers thinking with run 12A? The bottom portion of 12A is supposed to lead to the main gondolas (at the bottom) that take you up to the top of the mountain. 12A is the most awful, horrible cat track I have ever been unfortunate enough to do. The end, at least 1/2 km, is flat resulting in poling and walking. To add insult to injury the final 200 meters is UPHILL to the gondola. Simply awful planning and layout. Needless to say, 12A is a run to avoid at all costs.

I've skied a number of Austrian resorts in the past. Schmitten-hohe is not at the top of my list of places I'd want/need to repeat.

Very big choice of slopes and no crowds. Watch out for icy conditions on warm mornings as some of the slopes stay in the shade for quite a while each day.
