After 3nights in salzburg, We spent 4 nights here and could have stayed more. Beautifully clean, friendly, traditionally Austrian and attention to detail hotel. Food was first class! Expensive - yes but worth it! We loved it and have stayed In many hotels but this has something special. The suite with log fire must be special in winter. Would recommend to anyone of all ages! Whole trip was fantastic. Lucky to have sunshine all the way!

This was my husband's remark after our first day at the Salzburgerhof. Was it the lovely room, immaculate service, superb food or the lovely gardens? All of these, plus a friendliness not usually found in a five-star hotel,oh yes, and did I mention the free afternoon cakes? Our room overlooked the beautiful garden - with its swim in/out pool and top-class spa. There's also an indoor pool for rainy days, a huge and comfy lounge and bar to relax in after your four-course dinner.
It's not swanky although a certain code of dress and behaviour is expected. And of course it's not cheap either, but I've stayed in more expensive hotels that were nowehere near as good.
The rooms overlooking the gardens are best (others have a bit of railway noise) and we asked to see some suites to give some idea of what was available (if we win the lottery!). Zell is a charming resort, but can be crowded in high season. The excellent (and close) railway will take you to other nearby attrtactions (Salzburg, Kitzbuhel) if you want a change of scene. But you might not want to leave the hotel. Thanks to Family Holleis and the staff for a memorable stay.

Spent the night here after flying from SFO to Munich on our way down to Croatia. We'd been here five years before and it had been the best place we stayed on a trip around Austria. All was still pretty much the same - big, comfortable, spotless room with pleasant rustic ambience, lavish breakfast buffet, extremely gracious and accommodating service and exceptionally good value. Didn't eat dinner there because we arrived too late. Great location for access to shops and stores as well as the lake. I read some complaints about train noise below; if quiet is important to you (it is to us) I would ask for a room with an internal court view, which still has dramatic mountain backdrops. The train tracks run between the hotel and the lake, so lake view rooms may be more susceptible to noise.

I neglected to post a review last year after our stay and when I noticed so few reviews, I decided to post now - can't have changed very much. What a DELIGHTFUL hotel - from the reception, to the adorable room with the view of the property and the mountains, to the fabulous breakfasts and dinners at our "assigned" table. I can't say enough good things about this charming, alpine establishment. Very helpful staff - even helped us program our portable GPS system for the car to make sure we got where we were going. Someone mentioned the internet...we didn't have a computer but there was a room on our floor with a new computer and easy access to the 'net. Hope we can return someday!

We cannot understand why there are very few reviews for this marvellous hotel! The facilities and staff are wonderful, but the food is the star - it is absolutely top notch. Yes the hotel is near the railway line, and our room was very close to the line, but we soon got used to the trains trundling by and they didn't bother us at all.

We walked in and were immediately greeted by name. We booked two junior suites which made into an apartment. The sofa bed wasn't that comfortable for my husband but he put an extra blanket on top and it was better. The beds are o.k., not the greatest, but the down blankets were wonderful. This hotel is spic and span clean in every corner. We had wireless internet but could not connect in the room because the signal was poor. Anyway, that gave us an excuse to sit down in the beautiful lobby and enjoy the sound of the waterfall and nice fresh mountain air. The bar man greeted me every evening asking me if I would like my usual Cafe Latte'. The reception was great with information about activities and called numerous times for us to make sure our questions were answered and even printed out information for us. The owners are always around to greet you and I visited with the lady one morning and she was making sure her fish in the pond were fed. The grounds of the hotel and really beautiful. We used the spa for massages and manicures and the indoor/outdoor swimming pool a lot and the prices were more than reasonable. We had breakfast on the terrace daily and it was really nice with waffles and whip cream, eggs, fresh bed, fresh fruit, cheese, fresh yoghurt from nearby farms. The only problem we had was a lack of fans. When we arrived, the weather was extremely hot and we had to have the window open. The train comes near the hotel and there were people having fun late at night from nearby restaurants. So it's a must to close the doors at night. The next day after not sleeping at all I explained to the reception that we must have a fan or my children will not sleep. Even though there weren't any available, they found me one. I cleaned it because it was dusty and it worked great. In the other room, our taxi driver gave us one of his because the whole area was sold out of fans. We ate room service many times and we also used laundry service which was nice. Loved, loved this hotel. Many people commented that we were staying at the best hotel in Zell Am See and I agree. The location is great near shopping and near the lake. They gave my girls bicycles free every night as well. The hotel by itself is absolutely gorgeous and the owners are such a sweet Austrian couple.

All we can say is it feels like home! This year we booked everything ourselves, did not use a travel agent or a package company. The Hotel arranged our taxi to pick us up at the airport and returned us to Salzburg themselves! Everything was done online and by email. We saved a fortune!!!!!!!!!!!!!, and only had to pay 40% deposit, the rest on checking out!!!!!!. Travel agents want it all at least six weeks before departure. Food for thought to those of you who still go down the travel agents. Can't fault the Hotel, snow was amazing, the lake frozen and did not want to come home!
