“Great trip”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

Went up here on two occasions, sadly the weather was not too good and the cloud so low we didn't really get any views but the trip up was good and we had some good hot chocolate at the restaurant and watched the short film in the cinema.
Well worth the trip despite the cloud and can imagine how great the views would be on a good day. Takes awhile to get up on three different types of lifts.

“Highlight of Trip to Austria”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

We were not able to take the local bus from Zell up to the GrossGlockner and though it was a disappointment, I'm so glad in retrospect that we were able to take the cable car/lifts up the Kitzsteinhorn. A truly serendipidous accident.

We boarded a local bus from Zell which only costs 1 euro if you have a Zell Summer Card. The Summer Card was provided free of charge by the B&B where we were staying in Zell.

The bus dropped my wife and I off right at the lift station (I believe the buses run every 30 minutes. The lifts are also free of charge with the Zell Summer Card. It was the best bargain I've ever experienced on a vacation.

There are 3 gondolas/lifts to transport you to the top of the Kitzsteinhorn. The first lift and third lift are fully enclosed. The second lift is partially closed (your feet and legs hand off the seat, so this might not be for everyone, especially if you have a problem with heights. Using the lifts, you will ascend a vertical height of about 6,873 feet from the bottom of the valley where you start.

There is an excellent visitors center at the top of the mountain with very good food. There is an outdoor observation deck, but keep in mind that at that height, over 9,000 feet, the clouds can come and go quickly, having a significant impact on the view. It can also be quite windy. The day we were there, the temperature in Zell was about 65 degrees F and was about 30 degrees at the top of the mountain and quite windy. The scenery is fabulous if the weather and clouds cooperate and that, of course, is the risk you take at that altitude.

The scenery was fabulous and I would encourage anyone visiting the area to be sure and explore the Kitzsteinhorn. We have been up the Jungfraujoch in Switzerland and while the Kitzsteinhorn is not the Jungfrau, it's definitely a similar type of experience and probably the closest that the Austrian Alps have to offer (and a lot less expensive).

fresh air at it best... use your Zell Am See card to go up there and enjoy the scenery! Bring a lunch with you if you don't want to purchase food (a little bit expensive)

“Top of Salzburg 3000 Meters High”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

3000 meter high, full of snow. We were unlucky because of weather full of cloud and could not see anything down. Although I can imagine some breathtaking panoramic views from the top during sunny days
