We spent a week here in June 2013 and had an absolutely wonderful time. The staff was friendly and helpful in every way. Rooms were comfortable and service was great. The atmosphere of the small Austrian town with it local shopping and winding streets made for a great diversion when we were not out in the country visiting the many tourist attractions. We rented an auto and were within easy distance of Salzburg and most of the castles and other tourist sites visitors wouldn't want to miss. Locally we could have a fine dinner at a reasonable cost and mix with the locals. We ate Breakfast at the hotel every morning as it was absolutely unbeatable and so delicious! Ate dinner in the hotel on three occasions and again, food and service was not to be beaten. Look for Robert and Anna two of our favorite wait staff from the hotel dinning room and be sure to say hello for us. On the weekend we happened to be there, a local italian street festival took place, music, food, drink, and shopping brought to town by the not too far Italians. With so much to see in Europe I never thought I would be saying this but . . . , "I would like to go back to Alpenland and Sankt Johann.

From the pictures, this hotel looks like it's secluded near the Austrian mountains. Unfortunately, when we arrived for our one week stay (October), we were disappointed to find the hotel located directly in the center of town. We stayed in the standard size hotel rooms (not the apartment/condos). There are two sides to the hotel - one with great views and the other with terrible (street) views. Fortunately, we got the side with the beautiful mountain views. Be sure to ask about that if you stay here. The rooms themselves were okay, nothing fancy. It's an older hotel, so things weren't brand new and fresh. The bed was comfortable however, and each room has it's own balcony. The town of St. Johann is quant and there is quite a bit to do in that area. You are only an hour away from Salzburg and a few hours from Vienna. In fact, you could drive south, 3 hours, to Venice, Italy if you wanted from here. All in all our stay here was okay, nothing over the top.

Room Tip: Be sure to request a room with a mountain view! Or you might get stuck with an ugly street view.

My family first took a winter holiday at the Alpenland 25 years ago this winter and we have returned virtually every winter since. The boys were 3 and 6 months old. Now they are 28 and 25! and love it as much now as they did all those years ago The facilities are perfect and the pool and leisure area a great place to return to after a hard day on the slopes. The rooms are well maintained and a good size, the restaurants and the standard of food remains top class and the staff, many of whom have been there many years, are as ever, helpful and can't do enough to help. St Johann im Pongau is what I would consider to be typically Austrian. It's big enough to have enough shops to browse around after skiing, but still small enough to retain that Austrian village life feel.

I can't speak highly enough of this hotel and over the years I have referred many friends and work colleagues. Without exception they have had a great time and in many cases have returned year after year.

I understand that the skiing area has been expanded with a new lift between Wagrain and Flachau. I am looking forward to trying out all of the new slopes during this New Year vacation!

Room Tip: Try Christophs restaurant/bar in town and also the Steak house in the mountains. Reception at the ho...

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon and were thoroughly impressed. The best part of the hotel without a doubt is the staff. From management, to restaurant staff, to the friendly bartender in Wally's pub, someone is always there to help. The staff was extremely helpful since neither my wife or I spoke German. Also, the room was promptly attended to each morning after we departed from breakfast.

The views from the hotel and the surrounding area were extremely pleasant. The restaurant was nice, but we only ate there one night (not because of the food or service, but because we wanted to explore different offerings in the town). The bar was staffed by one of the friendliest ladies we met on our trip (I am blanking on the name, but it was the same lady each evening). And Robert, the hotel manager, was extremely outgoing and very friendly during our entire stay!

This is the type of place that is focused on the guest. The hotel is the type of place that would go above the call of duty to make sure the guest is happy. Would definitely recommend staying here if you are heading to Sankt Johann.

This is a fine setting and so convenient to all we wanted to see. We like Anna our dining room hostess. Such beautiful county side. Trees are turning; this area is free of pollution that we saw in the Linz region on the way to Wein.

Room Tip: Ask for upgrade, we did not but would have like a small kitchen.

We were upgraded to a room with a kitchenette (microwave, small refrig, 2 burners, dishes, silverware) and small 4 seat dining area when we arrived. Room also had a couch and chairs by the flatscreen TV for relaxing. Coffee maker (bring filters-altho we used napkins, which worked great) and toaster. Our friends had an adjoining regular room with a balcony with a beautiful view. Paid for internet and had no problem with connection during our week's stay. Front desk always accomodating with directions and helpful advise. Parked our rented car on a side street or in front of the hotel. Easy drive to many great sights. Supermarket and mall across the street. George's hike was difficult but rewarding at the top with the view and the outstanding lunch!! On our last day we were excited to see an Austrian wedding - so beautiful!

We stayed in the hotel for a week and checked out 9/21/13. This was supposed to be my time share week. The room had no kitchenette. it was a typical hotel room. The only thing you get for free at this hotel is a tea kettle!! The staff is RUDE! Everything you ask is answered with "that is impossible" or just a rude "No". Every hotel I have stayed in Europe provides free Wi Fi. Oh, no! not here. You pay 18 Euros per week. The shower has no door. It is a plastic panel covering only a quarter of the tub. So when you get out of the shower, you better be prepared to swim through the floor and watch not to skid on the wet floor! That panel might be modern but it is not practical. The tiny TV AND the mini refrigerator is stuffed together in a cabinet. Instead of being able to come to the room, lie down, relax and watch TV, you need to sit on an old uncomfortable "sofa" and watch TV stuffed in to that useless cabinet on the second shelf. Instead of having dried flowers on the wall, they should have a TV hanging there! 15 euros for the same exact breakfast day in and day out is outrageous! Their restaurant is ridiculously overpriced. The parking should be accommodated to the patrons. Instead, you pay 35 Euros per week. The washer and dryer are JUNK! yet they charge 6.60 Euros for one wash and dry. The dyer does not work and no matter how many people complained, they just did not gave a damn. I do NOT recommend this hotel. Customer service is really ridiculous.
