Just returned from a ten day Shearings holiday in Austria. We were based in St Gilgen and stayed eight nights in the hotel Gasthof Zur Post. The hotel occupies a good location in the centre of the village. Can't praise the staff enough, they are exceptional. We stayed half board, the food was very good.

The hotel has been recently renervated, our room (210) was on the second floor and was
very nicely laid out with a seated balcony which was nice in the evening

I'd have no worries recommending this hotel to anyone and we will certainly stay there again when we next visit.

Well done Zur Post and auf Wiedersehen!

We stayed at this hotel as we could not get a quality hotel at St Wolfgang due to the air show on at the weekend.
How fortunate we were.
This is an exceptional hotel in beautiful village only a few minutes walk from the lake. Our room which was the Nannerl suite was vast and very well equipped with everything you could want. The food, which you can take in the indoor dining room, the conservatory style restaurant overlooking the square or a delightful terrace. The staff are superb and and there is a smile and a few words for everyone.
The only slight negative is the lack of wi-fi in the bedroom. It is available in the areas outside you room but you have to sit in the dark as the lights are movement sensitive and go out after a few seconds. We were making travel and hotel reservations as we went along and feel that this facility is no longer a luxury but a necessity.
We cannot recommend this hotel enough and was the highlight of our stay in Austria. We hope to return .

Only stayed overnight on route on our motorbike to Italy. Encountered all weathers and we were desperate to get dry, warm and fed. We were not dissappointed. Very welcoming family run hotel. Room was perfect, clean with great view. Bathroom with heated floors which dried all our kit ready for next day.
Had awesome meal washed down with a couple of beers. Comfy bed, great shower followed by excellent breakfast. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay only wish we had stayed longer.

We spent four nights at the Post in May. The hotel has a great location and our room had a beautiful view of the Rathaus and town square. The room was spacious with a slight rustic decor. Beds were comfortable. The bathroom had a tub and stall shower. Very clean. The owners made you feel so very welcome and were so helpful. The breakfast room was bright and cheerful with excellent choices for breakfast. Also, the service was excellent. We ate dinner at the restaurant three nights and were very satisfied. Food and service were very good. When we came back late in the day, the aroma from the kitchen was wonderful. Some rooms are being remodeled in a very modern style and are very beautiful. Only one small fault. On checkout, the credit card reader did not work and we had to pay cash. Hopefully this has been corrected. If you are in St. Gilgen, we strongly recommend the Post. The owners just go out of their way for you.

we went to St. Gilgen for the day, had glorious weather, in no hurry to leave such a lovely location so decided to eat our evening meal there. We decided on this lovely traditional hotel and sat outside in the glass fronted seating area. Had a lovely meal, and desert, and were well attended to by efficient waiting staff. A thoroughly enjoyable end to a nice day.

The experience I had at this hotel was very pleasant. The family that runs it knows what it is doing and offers a great product. The only negative is that the internet in the hotel was not working.
Rooms and open areas were all clean with nice decor.
Food was not exceptional but good with very alert servers.
Overall a good hotel and recommendable for those staying in St Gilgen.

We stayed here for one week end May beginning June 2013. The trip was booked through Inghams on a half board basis. We had a "St. Gilgen" room on the first floor overlooking the square. The room was very large with a lovely lounge area with a very comfortable sofa. The food was of an excellent standard, breakfast was a buffet style and the evening meal was four course with a choice of main course. We ate in the conservatory dining room rather than the main hotel dining room, which was very light and airy.

The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and made our stay wonderful even though the weather was awful (We managed to catch the floods which swept Austria and Germany at the end of May beginning of June this year). I would definitely stay at the Zur Post again as it is in a very central position for all that St. Gilgen has to offer and very close to both the boat station and and the bus station so it is very easy to get around.

Room Tip: We had Room 103 on the first floor. There is a little noise with the windows open as room overlooks...
