We stayed at the Post after our other hotel, Panther, had had a roof disaster. We found our room a bit small and dark so requested we change rooms. Fortunatley this was possible and our next room was delightful with plenty of storage, confortable beds and a view over the church and the ski slopes. The hotel was busy. Our food was very good and my special diet was catered for. Our only criticism would be the smoking in the lounge. Austria has no law against somking in public places and there is no segregation of smokers and non smokers. The pools were spotless and the saunas roasting warm and very clean. The furnishings were carefully chosen, and yes we w ere in the yellow dining room with a umber of Swedes, Brits, Norwegians and Germans. All in all a very pleasant stay and I would return. As someone who understands German I could read the menus and agree that it might be useful to have them in English. But you could always ask the staff.

My wife and I stayed at the Post for New Year 2008. The hotel is in an ideal location in the heart of the town. I cannot fault the location or the facilities, out door pool steam room etc, the only problem was the hoards of kids in there, but I suppose it was new year.

The only problem for us was the restaurant. On the first night we were told we'd have to eat in the bar as there was not room for us in the restaurant. This din't seem too bad until you realise there's people smoking all around you and kids running wild. Not the 4* experience I was expecting. After complaining we were begrudgingly moved to 'the yellow room'. This is where most of the British guests were put. The Yellow Room reminds me of a 1970's kitchen, with everything painted bright yellow!

The service matched the room, my wife being a veggy was brought all manner of meals including Steak Tata, eventually it became a bit of a joke amongst the other guests as to how many times the staff could get it wrong. We were told they hire in extra untrained staff just to cover the huge influx of guests over new year. So maybe you'd be OK at any other time.

Apart from the above Saalbach was great, a nice authentic town, the lift network is a little tired and slow in places, but generally good.

Would we return, no not to the Post anyway, maybe Eva Village or Neuhaus just up the hill. The Post looks great from outside but if you're looking for a 4* go elsewhere.

Oh and it's right next door to the church so if you want a lie in, forget it. You're getting up at 7 like it or not.

We spotted the Hotel Post when staying in Saalbach last Xmas and thought it looked great... well they say looks can be deceiving and they certainly are. Although some of the facilities could be rated as 4 star others are not. There are 2 dining rooms one beautifully interior designed the other was not worthy of a 2 star award.. and guess where we and the other UK guests were put? The owner is stroppy and intimidating and woe be tide if you complain as we did . We asked if the menus and activity schedule could be written in English as well as German but she was adamant that it was impossible to do this... despite their website being written in almost perfect English. Anything extra was out of the question, we felt that it was all done on a very tight budget , not very 4star!! The staff were from Denmark and could speak very littl e German and no English whatsoever and so consquently the service was dreadful. We got the distinct impression that they were very in awe of the owner. Mealtimes are very slow we often waited 30mins just to order our drinks! There are some good aspects... its next to the childrens ski school and also opposite is a supermarket and about a 10min walk to the main gondola. However if you are planning a stay in Saalbach and want something a bit special stay clear of the Post.

We had a very enjoyable week staying in this well run and managed hotel in the centre of Saalbach. Access to the ski lifts is by a short walk to each of the 3 main accesses lifts in the centre of Saalabach. The hotel has a new boot room to leave skis , which can be hired from the shop next to the hotel.
The hotel is extremely well run by Klaudia who is always happy to help and even laid on a special meal for my husbands 50th birthday. Meals are tasty and filling with an excellent choice for breakfast and a 3 choice menu for evenings. We were lucky to be in the new suite rooms which are large and very well furnished with huge bathrooms. The pool is small but there is also a small outdoor pool which was an experience and on offer are saunas and steam rooms - if you take children be aware that clients are wandering around naked. Only draw back is the smoking in the lounge bar area with no attempt to partition off anywhere for non smokers, if fact the bar man was proud to tell us that most Austrians smoke and we would not find anywhere smoke free. Nothwithstandin this all in all just want you want for a relaxing ski break.
