“Great new year at Hotel Post”
Reviewed January 6, 2014

Just back from a week at the Hotel Post, our 4th trip to Saalbach and would say this is certainly a great place to spend new year, live music and a really good party atmosphere, the streets of Saalbach are mental New years eve with people setting of fireworks in the streets so a nice respite but still in amongst the action.

The food was excellent, every day a good breakfast selection and the evening meal was amazing, usually 6 or 7 courses, we were a party of 4 adults and 3 children and they agreed this was the best kids food they've had out of all their numerous ski trips.

As others have mentioned the location is central to everything, 3 lifts are within 5 mins walk and the ski hire shop is just opposite the hotels main entrance.

The boot room is a bit out the way as its in the 3rd block of the hotel (I believe it was 3 separate buildings/hotels which have now been combined by a series of corridors, some parts are 500 years old), it could do with being a bit bigger and with some proper seating but that would really be my only negative.

The spa is good, the out-door pool was at a good temperature and the steam/sauna areas were not that busy considering it was New year week (we arrived 28th Dec).

I would recommend this hotel, great location/food/spa and the owners and staff are the friendliest we've met in any Austrian hotel we've visited.

Room Tip: Posthof junior suite is good for 2 x adults and 1 x child. Gloria Junior suites are bigger and bette...

Great location right in the centre of town. Lovely staff who made us feel welcome. As we are vegetarian, we always struggle for food but the chef made some good food while a bottle of tabasco added a little spice!

What a fabulous hotel this is. Great location, near to all amenities, ski hire shop across the road, all ski lifts close by, bars within easy walking distance. Amazing.
Breakfast buffet vast, so much to choose from, with hot alternatives, fresh fried eggs were offered every day. Choice of evening meals most nights. Staff very cheerful and exceptionally helpful. We had a junior suite which was a very good size and well appointed, very quiet room. Although the room was very warm, but far better than being freezing cold. The room was serviced to a very high standard every day. - Well done the housekeeping staff.
The only small niggle is that the beautiful bar and lounge area allowed smoking. But saying that it was very well ventilated and wasn't too unpleaseant.
Overall - I would definately be returning and will strongly recommend this hotel to anyone who is visiting Sallbach.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a junior suite, it is well worth it.

This was my second visit to Saalbach and the most enjoyable. Being a dedicated skier, I chose Saalbach once again for my anual skiing holidays (first time was in 2005). This time I decided to spoil myself and stayed at the historic Hotel Post. It is a preserved monument, as it is 500 years old and a former monastery. It is made up of a number of traditional buildings joined together to form a large hotel complex. It is located right on the central square of Saalbach and a 5 min walk from all the ski lifts. The high light of the hotel is the spa area which contains a sauna, hamam, showers, an indoor swimming pool and an outdoor swimming pool. This outdoor pool is a real delight, since it is very hot, completely coverered with stainless steel and it starts from inside the hotel and ends up outside with amazing views of the village and the mountains and tons of snow all around. The food is also very special and the owners are really friendly people.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the oldest hotel building in the complex (the old monastery) because these are the...

Centrally placed in the village square. Convenient for all the ski lifts (Schattberg Express is best). Ski hire shop right opposite the hotel, all other shops/bars/restaurants very close. The hotel itself is lovely. We had a junior suite in house Gloria and it was really modern and comfortable. Huge bathroom with bath and shower, separate loo, flat screen TV. The boot/ski room is heated (only two chairs inside, bench outside). Food very good at breakfast and dinner, staff all very friendly and English widely spoken. Spa area is lovely (they have a nude area with a sauna and steambath and showers which is separated by two doors which have keycard access - a problem if is locked and you have forgotten your card as that is where the towels are). Will definitely return to this hotel it is one of the best 4 stars we have stayed in for 30 years!

Room Tip: I recommend a junior suite as it is not much more money but you get a mini bar full of non-alcoholic...

An excellent choice of hotel for a short ski break. Breakfast excellent choice and evening meal on half board plan decent quality. Rooms adequate and fairly well appointed. Good location in the centre of town close to ski hire shops, ski lifts and après ski bars , although no noise apparent when there. Staff excellent. Good ski room with plenty ski tacks and boot earners albeit a little cramped. Would highly recommend.

The location of this 4 star hotel could not be better for skiing. It is in the centre within 200m or less to all of the lifts in the resort. The owners are most welcoming and this is also reflected in the staff. The food at dinner was generally very good quality; especially the meat. Some guests might be disappointed in the hot part of the breakfast buffet - I've had better. One note of caution. The ground level room ajacent to the outdoor pool, and the room above, suffer from the considerable noise caused by bathers, for about 3 hours in late afternoon (winter).

Room Tip: Avoid rooms adjacent to the heated outdoor pool in winter.
