OK, so we decided to go back to Saalbach with some friends having sold this wonderful ski area to them. Firstly, the skiing was just as good as we found last year when we went, just wanted to say that. We decided to stay in one of the best hotels in town and the 4 star Saalbacher Hof has a great location right in the centre, no more than a hundred metres or so from any one of three ski lifts. It was quite expensive at 145 Euros per person per night (290 Euros per room then), but we knew that before we went and we had booked superior rooms. On arriving ~(very late - after midnight) we were checked in and shown to our rooms, one on the 6th floor and the other (ours) on the 2nd in the old part of the hotel. They were ok, but nothing spectacular (our bathroom was really dated though and stank of smoke, which we realised the next day was due to the used hotel robe they had just left there from the previous guest). When we got up the following day though, we were disappointed to realise that our room had no view apart from a retaining wall with another hotel on top of it! As we were there for only a few days, we let it go. Our friends did have a better view however from their room which was in the new wing. At breakfast we were shown to a table in what seemed to us like a scruffy third class part of the dining room. Our wives immediately complained and at dinner that night we were given a different and much better table in a much better part of the hotel dining room. The contrast was startling and I am sorry to say it but we could not help but notice that every one around us in the original table had been predominantly English speaking, whereas in the better part, they were all Russian speaking. At breakfast the following day, our table had been used by others before we got there and despite our pulling them up about it, they did not do anything other than lay new place settings, so the cloth remained unchanged and dirty - just sloppy and inattentive. The food, at breakfast was nice and well cooked, at dinner the salad buffet was really nice (quite the best we have seen), the meals were very well prepared and presented, not all to our taste but hey ho. In the bar we thought the drinks (which were really expensive btw) were either watered down or given as short measure - how can one not taste malibu and flat coke (when we specifically asked for a small newly opened bottle) and not taste the malibu? After that we drank elsewhere. The new parts of the hotel are very nice but it hasn't been that well integrated with the old part. There are several lifts, all going to different places. The spa and pool areas, whilst very nice are at the top of the new part and felt really quite remote from our room. Also, when paying the kind of price we were, I don't exect to then be charged for internet usage, but unless one goes to the library on the fourth floor, one is. The boot and ski room is really very good, large, heated, with its own separate access, but watch out if you ski for the day after check out, your room card does not work and getting into the boot room can be a bit of a trial. On the whole we had a good break. We felt that the hotel, whilst nice could have been a lot better for the cost of it. We did notice that the staff were very attentive to others but they were sloppy and inattentive to us to the extent that we would not stay there again.

This is a very pleasant hotel. It is absolutely spotlessly clean. We had half board. Breakfasts buffet is very good. The 5 course evening meals are fine but slightly monotonous.

The general service is very efficient if slightly brusk.

Room Tip: Junior Deluxe suite are much better than lower graded rooms.

Thank you for your very nice review we are happy to hear that you enjoyed your holiday and that we could keep up with your expectations. We now made our dinner variations much bigger. You can now choos between the Gustomenu and the Lifetime Menu (your chance for vitality) it is much lighter and healthier than the normal Gustomenu. So you always deside between 2 starters, 2 soups, three diffrent main courses and two desserts. We hope to welcoming you again soon that you can test our variations. In the meantime we reamain with our very best regards from sunny Saalbach.

Kind regards

Went on a Skiing trip for New Year with friends through Inghams and the hotel was lovely. Big spacious room, excellent spa and food was delicious. Clearly a family run hotel which they take great pride in. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Bernadette and Valentino? in the restaurant. They couldn't have been more helpful and were very friendly. Typical Austrian feel but all modern facilities which was lovely. Would highly recommend this hotel and it was really close to the slopes. My only disappointment was children in the 'adult' spa area running round screaming when we were trying to relax, which we did comment to the lifeguard but he didn't seem interested. All in all a lovely time had by all.

Room Tip: I would ask for a room with a view of the gondola.

We went on a 7-day package booked through Voyagers. There was a misunderstanding when we had paid an upgrade for a larger room and thought we would be part of the refurbished building. We were in a larger room however in the original part of the hotel which is far away and tucked away at the back. These rooms are very dated with green carpet compared to the refurbished ones, however were still comfortable and we managed to swap rooms to get one with a large balcony facing the gondola's going up the mountain (previously we looked out onto a wall).

The staff are very friendly and helpful, and we really did feel like we were staying with Isabel's family. The food was amazing - with 4 courses each evening, we didn't pay for tap water however (i read in another review). Staying in July we had access to the Joker card which allowed free travel on the gondola's and walking poles were complimentary from the front desk.

Highly recommend getting the mountain air and relaxing at this hotel. Would definately go back and recommend to others.

Room Tip: The rooms are more plush in the refurbished part than the original hotel.

I have just stayed at the saalbacher hof in Austria |(15/9-22/9) We arrived approx 21.15 at the hotel to be served with a very poor cold platter with no starter or sweet and were charged for our hot drinks the waitress was very off hand with us when we questioned why we were being charged for hot drinks when we should have been having a 4 course meal as per brochure we thought this poor for a 4* hotel, but worse was yet to come at the evening meal the following night we asked for tape water and were told there was a charge never in all the times I have been to Austria have I been charged for tape water. those are the negative comments on this hotel but there are plenty of positives. the spar was excellent the roof garden was sublime and the hotel was very clean. We had a problem with a plug socket it repeatedly blew the electrics it was addressed eventually but not immediately. We thought the food was average the highlight was the home cooked bread which was excellent the salad buffet was very good too. the summery being an excellent hotel but the tap water fiasco and charge for hot drinks lets the hotel down and I must stress this is just my opinion.

Room Tip: You would have to upgrade if you wanted a decent room at quite a large suppliment

We spent 7 nights in the middle of July as part of a late package deal with Inghams. The hotel, staff and service were all excellent. The food was a joy with the 5 course menu full of beautiful looking dishes and friendly assistance whenever you needed it.
The location of the hotel is ideal for accessing local transport, lifts and and short journey away from Lake Zell, a warm sunny day spent swimming in the sun in the clear waters before returning home before the golf ball sized hailstones.
The room provided all that we needed - we were offered an upgrade for a small charge but were happy with the original room provided. There is a lovely grassed area on the rook where hours can be spent lounging or swimming in the outdoor pool. Alternatively there is an indoor pool and spa available for guests to use and free wi-fi should you wish to use it.
We would have no hesitation in returning to the Saalbacher Hof - if only to hear the wind orchestra playing outside during one of the many street festivals that take place or to enjoy the many walks that are accessible from the hotel door.

Thank you for providing the ideal environment to rest, relax, eat, walk, swim , I could go on......

Every day spent here was a pleasure from morning to evening. The hotel is perfectly situated , not too far from cable cars and buses should you require them and amidst pleanty of cafes and shops plus other hotels, yet far enough away to enjoy everything that Saalbach offers. The staff were extremely polite and helpful and were there all the time when you required them. Our room was spacious and well furnished and spotlessly clean as was all the facilities. Should you require a morning cup of tea in your room then we advise to take a travel kettle as there are no facilities for this but this seems to be in alot of European hotels now,but as long as you know it is not a problem. The food was of a high standard and beautifully presented but the only thing we did not like was having to choose your main course for the evening meal at breakfast, something we have never been asked to do before, but then again not a problem. Overall we had an excellent holiday and would recommend this hotel as it has everything to offer . The scenery in the mountains is spectacular and we loved our walks up and down the paths often calling at beautiful cafes for a drink.Just a lovely place to spend a holiday.

Room Tip: A room with a balcony as it was rather warm when we were there and ti was lovely to sit out and take...

Thank you for your comment.
We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay very much and liked our rooms and the service.

As we want to do a quick service for our guests, we wish to have the order for the menu in the morning, but if you
do not wish to make this already in the morning, it is also possible to do that at the dinner, of course.

We would be very delighted to welcome you for another beautiful sommer holiday again.

Kind regards
