We stayed for a week and despite the rooms we expected not being available, the owner and staff made several attempts to offer us something different to try to accommodate us. We decided to stay where we were with the benefit of having a shared (tired-looking) balcony between just our two small rooms, and free internet from the Alpenhotel next door (better than paying for hotel internet at EUR40 for the week).

I believe this is one of the oldest buildings in the village, with a more recent additions for the spa area. There are contrasts of luxury with tired luxury, but this is smoothed by the attentiveness of the family owners being present and engaging, and by their staff, many of whom have been there for many years. Chef produced good food every night, with great choices for main course and dessert. The waiters were delightful. The Prosecco Bar was lovely too.

Despite our raising of eyebrows on invitation to an Elvis Night, the singer had a fantastic voice and got most people joining in with songs covering Elvis, Tom Jones and others.

The hotel is in a great location, with short walks to 3 different lifts in a lovely village.

We spent a week at the Berger over easter 2013. Staff were by and large friendly and helpful, the owner is a real gem. Food is outstanding. Our only slight negative is that there was nothing for younger kids, ours are 7 and 9. The staff were brilliant with them, but it's not the best for younger children. The pool is small, but big enough, and the kids loved that apart from one night when a lady wanted to talk on her phone in the pool area and objected to the kids splashing as they played. If you are reading this get a life. We probably wouldn't go back with small kids, but if you don't have them then it's fantastic, central, clean, welcoming, bit dated, but that could also be called character.

This is a charming hotel that is immaculately clean in a fantastic location but,it needs a refurb.
It would not take a fortune to shape because in its own way it is an older style hotel

The beds were uncomfortable & the bedrooms small , it can be very noisy in the evening as it is bang in the center.
All the staff are brilliant, Gabrielle was a fantastic waitress & the elderley gentleman on reception charming..
The massive let down for us was the food which was average at the best of times, a lack of variety at breakfast & re cycling of dishes from the previous day was obvious, now it could be that this was because we were at the back end of the season but I`m afraid it was not good enough for a 4 star.
On a lighter note the cleaning on the 3rd floor rooms was fantastic, spotless, well done.
The Spa down stairs is wonderful.
The Elvis night is brilliant even if the lookalikey does not move an inch or show any facial expression

Room Tip: get a room at the back its quieter.

We took a last minute chance for Easter and couldn't be more pleased. The SportBerger reviews are spot on - personal service, charm and location all make for a great stay. From the boot locker room (heated rails for warm dry boots) in the basement to the foyer lift when the legs can't face the stairs. Ski lifts and rentals all right there on the high street.

The staff were really very good, friendly and helpful and the food was excellent with great variety.

We made use of the spa and the massage was a great unwind after skiing. Our daughter also rated the treatment. The Spa is very nicely fitted - stainless steel pool and separate, luxurious sun lounger area

Frau Berger still makes her evening rounds even in their last week of the season and treated the children on the last night. We had an early depart and there were packed lunches laid on

Free Internet limit to 1hour or €7/day

Seen the reviews saying the rooms are cosy but these must vary. We had 2 adjacent rooms incl a twin for kids and it had cupboards, balcony and adequate en-suite with good modern fittings.

Would definitely recommend

Silke, James and kids

Room Tip: Ask about room size and balconies. We had 312, a spacious corner suite (twin plus sofa area), two si...

This was my fifth ski week in Saalbach and accommodation wise, this was definitely the best yet. The hotel is situated right in the middle of the resort so is only a few minutes walk from any of the ski lifts - because of its central location it is also a great place to sit out on the street in the sun after a day's skiing. Although quite a large hotel, personal service is that of somewhere much smaller - our regular waiter Nick was lovely and very professional as well as good humoured and the hotelier would come round to each table at dinner each night for a chat.

Food was excellent - breakfast buffet with everything you could ask for and a four course evening meal of the highest quality food. After reading reviews we chose to pay for a 2-4 person room which meant we had plenty of space (good choice if you want a room with more than just a bed which you can just about walk around), but there is plenty to do outside of your room (bar, pool, sauna...) so limited space is not really a problem. A great hotel which I definitely hope to return to.

Room Tip: Pay extra if you want a room with a bit extra space

The Hotel is a classic Alp place with squeaky floors, small reception and no minimalist style whatsoever. The rooms are cosy and clean with white lace curtains and small bathtub. We truly enjoyed the half board food that consisted of a big breakfast buffet and a wonderful four course dinner in the evening with real friendly waiters. Soups salads, schnitzels and banana splits:)). You have your own table during the stay in the ball room with red leather sofas and under an enourmous crystal chandelier. Table dancing in the basement but was never disturbed by it - next to the ski room.

Stayed here in March 2010, had booked into the annexe and wished they had not moved us to the main building. Our bedroom was so tiny you could only shuffle between the bed and the bathroom sliding door. Once inside you could not bend at the sink or your would push the sliding door off its rails. Hotel is in a good location near a life and on the main street, the food was good.
