From all the other reviews I read about the hotel I wasn't expecting much.
The staff were very friendly especially the waiter who served us breakfast and dinner.
The dinner was amazing for what we paid for the holiday, 5 courses a night we always left far too full. The rooms were all newly refurbished , the only down side of our room was it only had a shower.

The outside pool was great to relax in after a days boarding.

The hotel is probably the closest to the two main lift stations out of all the hotels in Saalbach, it is a little walk to the main gondola though.

We stayed for a long weekend with my wife @ Panther. This hotel has probably the best location in Saalbach - closest to the lifts, central garage and close but not too close to the neighbouring Eva Bar which is the place to be @ night. The rooms are basic and clean - could be refurbished though. (The bathroom looks aged the most). The food was ok and the service was impeccable. We loved the hot water pool which was surprisingly big. The hotel is favoured mostly by the British and Scandis. Do not expect a stunning view from the balcony. If you would like to have a good sleep at night make sure that you select a room on 3rd floor as the streets are filled with drunken nad loud sportsmen at night. Wifi was not for free and was not working anyway. We paid 125 EUR per person per night incl. dinner and wellness which is not cheap at all but you will not find a less costly place at that location (but maybe a better one). All in all I can recommend the place.

Room Tip: 3rd floor away from the street is less noisy at night.

Like many after booking the Panther and seeing the mixed reviews on here in comparison to other Saalbach hotels I was a little apprehensive. Frankly though I need not have worried at all. We went as a group of 4 friends and had 2 superior doubles on the first floor. One room was great and seemed fairly modern (114) whilst the other was smaller and a little tired in the decor department (116). Lots of old Knotty Pine, a normal window (114 has french windows) and a tiny bathroom. This is perhaps where some of the Panther mixed reviews have some merrit as your room allocation does seem to be a lottery. That having been said both rooms were fully functional and served their purpose as bases for our trip. No one will argue that the location of the hotel, it is the best I have ever stayed in of any Ski resort and you can virtually hit two lifts with a stone from the hotel. I found the staff to be friendly enough and certainly had no problems with being English in this hotel as some on here have mentioned. In fact as so often when in Europe the standard of the waiters just reminded me how poor it can be in England. The Wellness centre at Hotel Panther is a real jewel in the crown. After a day on the slopes you cant beat the outdoor pool as hot as a warm bath whilst its snowing around you. I also found the whole area to be lovely and clean too. Sure you have to be ready for a few few naked people in the sauna and steam room but that's is just how it goes in Europe, unlike us Brits who you can spot a mile away sweating in our swimwear. The food at the Panther I found to be superb. Breakfast as you'd expect was the huge continental buffet with a few hot items thrown in that we have all come to expect in good ski hotels. The evening meals were also superb good five course meals cooked very well and just perfect after a hard day on the mountain. The main courses mainly consisted of beef, pork or fish but there was always a choice for the main course. We had a great table right in the middle of the restaraunt which did add a lot of atmosphere to our evening meals. Finally due to the Panthers location and the fact that it is in the lively resort of Saalbach you have to expect that not everyone is going to go to bed early. Bar Otzi next door is open until 4 every morning but it is behind a huge steel door and no noise can be heard except for people who don't consider others when returning to the hotel from a night out. Saalbach can be a lively resort in season and a hotel so close to the action will always attract people who want to enjoy the nightlife as well as the slopes. Noisy people returning to the hotel (we went out a couple of nights, but were generally woken at somepoint by slamming doors on the others) is something you have to be aware of but not something to warrant bad reviews on trip advisor. In other words if you are a family with children perhaps consider a hotel a little further from the nightlife or request a room less likely to have late night revellers near by. If you aren't a family and want to experience everything Saalbach has to offer then the Hotel Panther should be a safe bet.

Room Tip: Rooms on the side away from the pool and Bar Otzi are likely to be the quieter ones.

We have just spent a week in a room on the third floor looking out over the slopes and across to mountains covered in snow. The staff were helpful when ever they could be, the half board package was very generous with a different menu each evening. Breakfast was generous and food varied.
Our room was well presented and serviced, although could be improved by slightly fluffier pillows.

I have to be honest that after reading the reviews, we nearly cancelled this hotel. I am so relieved that we didn't as our experience was fantastic. We have high standards and have travelled the world staying in a variety of hotels.

The panther is quirky, well presented and the staff are incredibly helpful, professional and most importantly nice with personality.

We had a quiet room, room 302, that was modern and perfect for our needs. This was requested before we arrived and they obviously endeavour to meet their customer needs. Our cleaner was excellent. The room was immaculate each day when we returned with our bedding displayed artistically, water refilled and fresh towels and toiletries if we wanted. A member of staff who certainly went above and beyond what we expected!

The food was delicious. Such a variety of choice and if you aren't a fussy eater I cannot imagine that you won't enjoy it. My favourite meal was the gourmet fish buffet. The king prawns were beautiful and plentiful. Breakfast provided so much choice. The staff were also accommodating when asked for variations such as fried eggs. Breakfast on the final day with such an early start was a really nice touch! I liked where we ate even though it wasn't in the main restaurant. We sat near the same people each day and this is a nice touch as it allows for a chatter about the day!

The wellness centre was lovely after a hard day on the slopes. Very clean and with the added touch of personal dressing gowns and slippers it meant that we were warm whilst heading down from our room. Obviously during half term it was busy but staff restocked towels and if there aren't any just ask, don't moan!!!! They will be there before you get out of the sauna!

The wifi is hit and miss so I suggest if its just a quick check of emails, facebook etc, use the Cuban bar near spar during happy hour as wifi is free :)

The panther is perfect location for not lugging your skis around. Straight out of the door to the lifts! We used TREFFPUNKT EUROPSPORT through skiset. They suggest you contact them directly but both ski set and the shops service was great so I would do either. They serviced my skis half way through to make them run faster. Nothing seemed like a problem!

The skiing was fabulous with such an expanse of slopes. The lift system is rapid and allows you to spend more time skiing than sitting on a chair! The mountain cafes are individual and beautiful. We have our favourites but won't recommend as that's part of the experience finding your own! Rum hot chocolates are definitely worth the money!

If you want any extra info just email and I would be happy to help! We loved Saalbach and would stay in this hotel again!

Room Tip: Get a room on the opposite side to the swimming pool or at the back. We had room 302 and it was perf...

We have just returned from a family skiing trip at Hotel Panther. We stayed in Room 206, and three other second floor bedrooms which were adequate though quite dated. The big problem however was the bar outside which stayed open to 4am every morning. The noise was totally intolerable with a constant stream of clubbers coming and going, shouting, fighting, throwing up, etc..... We did not sleep for the week and have returned totally exhausted. we were given 6 earplugs (amongst the 8 of us) but no sympathy. We would suggest if you stay here ask for a quiet bedroom at the back of the hotel. The hotel although very well located does not live up to its 4*s being quite souless and uninspiring.

Room Tip: Stay at the back of the hotel.

To add to the comments by my colleage John below, who I visited with 26th Jan - 1st Feb 2013:
Hotel location is great for skiing, you have access to the Berngogel lift (Hinterglemm side) within 50 yards, and the Turm 6er (Saalback side) even less (view from my room was 20 yards to the ski slope on this side, brill). A 5 min walk down the road also gives access to the Schattberg Express for the other side of the valley. While not ski-in/out, it is pretty darn close to that.
Staff at the hotel were excellent, esp George, Latif and the lovely receptionist Susannah, all very friendly, fun and helpful.
The Wellness Centre is such a bonus, microwave sauna, steam room and the outdoor pool which is the highlight, Outside pool surrounded by snow, situated on the roof of Otzi's bar/disco, access can be gained from inside (enter water and swim out), or for the brave walk outside (easier after 10 mins in the sauna to protect you from the cold). Pool is lovely and warm, has seated area in one corner with water jets, great for easing the aches and pains at the end of the day. Look out for buttons on the side of the pool that turn on the high power water jet in the middle of the pool and one at the side (even better for treating sore calves). In true stereotype style, the English were the ones that kept their swimmers on, majority of the rest seemed not to.
Rooms - These seemed to be a bit pot luck, I had what I think was a refurbished room (315) with balcony overlooking the slopes and far bathroom with super under floor heating. Complimentary robes for the Welness Centre (tip - take your own flip flops, the white slippers they provide are not a good look when walking round the hotel), and bottle of water each day (was good for dealing with hangovers).
Food - Breakfast buffet was very good, dinner was a bit more hit and miss. 5 courses every night, salad, starter, soup, main, dessert. The mains were the only issue, would recommend sticking with the meat option, but if there is one area the hotel could improve (in my opinion), it would be to simplify the menu, but do it will (so grilled chicken, pork viennese style, lamb, beef etc), I may be a bit picky but I could not eat some of the mains.
Other - If skiing, then couple of recommendations on mountain restaurants - AsitzBrau on the Leogang side, huge but fab place that houses a micro brewery, and the Walleggalm, great views and nice atmosphere. In truth they were all good, and reasonably priced. Oh yes, mention for Backstatt Bar also (next to Bernkogel lift), nice apres ski bar, and for mental apres ski then Bauers (disco from 5pm).
