Like many after booking the Panther and seeing the mixed reviews on here in comparison to other Saalbach hotels I was a little apprehensive. Frankly though I need not have worried at all. We went as a group of 4 friends and had 2 superior doubles on the first floor. One room was great and seemed fairly modern (114) whilst the other was smaller and a little tired in the decor department (116). Lots of old Knotty Pine, a normal window (114 has french windows) and a tiny bathroom. This is perhaps where some of the Panther mixed reviews have some merrit as your room allocation does seem to be a lottery. That having been said both rooms were fully functional and served their purpose as bases for our trip. No one will argue that the location of the hotel, it is the best I have ever stayed in of any Ski resort and you can virtually hit two lifts with a stone from the hotel. I found the staff to be friendly enough and certainly had no problems with being English in this hotel as some on here have mentioned. In fact as so often when in Europe the standard of the waiters just reminded me how poor it can be in England. The Wellness centre at Hotel Panther is a real jewel in the crown. After a day on the slopes you cant beat the outdoor pool as hot as a warm bath whilst its snowing around you. I also found the whole area to be lovely and clean too. Sure you have to be ready for a few few naked people in the sauna and steam room but that's is just how it goes in Europe, unlike us Brits who you can spot a mile away sweating in our swimwear. The food at the Panther I found to be superb. Breakfast as you'd expect was the huge continental buffet with a few hot items thrown in that we have all come to expect in good ski hotels. The evening meals were also superb good five course meals cooked very well and just perfect after a hard day on the mountain. The main courses mainly consisted of beef, pork or fish but there was always a choice for the main course. We had a great table right in the middle of the restaraunt which did add a lot of atmosphere to our evening meals. Finally due to the Panthers location and the fact that it is in the lively resort of Saalbach you have to expect that not everyone is going to go to bed early. Bar Otzi next door is open until 4 every morning but it is behind a huge steel door and no noise can be heard except for people who don't consider others when returning to the hotel from a night out. Saalbach can be a lively resort in season and a hotel so close to the action will always attract people who want to enjoy the nightlife as well as the slopes. Noisy people returning to the hotel (we went out a couple of nights, but were generally woken at somepoint by slamming doors on the others) is something you have to be aware of but not something to warrant bad reviews on trip advisor. In other words if you are a family with children perhaps consider a hotel a little further from the nightlife or request a room less likely to have late night revellers near by. If you aren't a family and want to experience everything Saalbach has to offer then the Hotel Panther should be a safe bet.
