“Comfortable hotel, excellent value and good access to fantastic skiing”
Reviewed April 25, 2009

Stayed in this hotel in March, near the end of the season. Resort itself was quiet and the hotel only had guests that we travelled out from England with. Reasonably quck transfer from Salzburg. Rooms were basic but comfortable, with everything you need and a balcony. Bath would have been nice to ease the aching limbs at the end of the day but the shower was good.
Food was limited n choice but nevertheless was all very good, plentiful and well cooked. Service was quick.
The bus service was quick, but I agree with Ali, it was a little erratic and you could end up waiting up to 20 minutes (not helpful if you have a lesson booked). Hinterglem is within easy walking distance if you are wearing shoes but a bit of effort required in ski boots. Saalbach is about 30 walk, very pretty with more nightlife.

Just got back after one week skiing in Hinterglemm and stayed at the Hotel Austria (it is closer to Hinterglemm than Saalbach). The room we had was excellent although there was no bath which was a shock at first but really good shower so no problem. The staff were very friendly and for a three star hotel the food was very good, Yatz the barman was a star and made our stay even more enjoyable with his good taste in music, he even loaned our 13 year old son his guitar one evening!!!. The ski bus does stop outside the hotel but the timing is a bit hit and miss and service stops at 5pm. If you're a beginner our best tip is to stay on the bus until the other end of the tunnel at Hinterglemm and walk over to the nursery slopes and lesson meeting place (approx 3 mins), not the first stop. For skiers there are a couple of ski routes via T bar lifts into Hinterglemm one of which you can see from the hotel.
We went at the end of the season and the snow and weather were great, skiing brilliant with almost empty slopes, met lots of really nice people and had a fantastic holiday, will definately stay there again. Incidentally this is the only hotel we've stayed in where the owner comes onto the departure coach, takes the mike from the rep and says thank you and goodbye to everyone!

6 of us stayed at the hotel for the third week of March 2009. We have skiied all over Europe and North America but were particularly impressed with the resort and also the quality of this hotel. It offers fantastic value for money and is a quality three star hotel with spacious modern rooms. The people were all very firendly in the hotel and the bar and the prices at the bar were very resonable. I'm very suprised to read a previous review stating that the food was poor as we were all very impressed with the quality and choice on offer and they catered well for a vegitarian member of our group. The only reason that I have not given it top marks is that the bar was smokey and this smell filtered into the hotel! Great hotel overall and we would all highly recommend it.

Four of us stayed here in March 2009 on a half board basis. The hotel itself is quite nice, the rooms are really spacious, clean and modern. The hotel dining room is nice an bright but the half board buffet selection is very poor for both breakfast and dinner. There was very little fresh fruit available at breakfast but the rest of the selection was ok. Dinner was another story. The buffet was themed every evening; asian buffet, american buffet, eastern european buffet etc. There was never a vegetarian option available and indeed no vegetable choice any evening other than salad. The selection was very meat and potato based and tasted pretty uninspiring. Dessert was always inedible and I was amazed to discover that at dinner you had to pay for your water and tea/coffee. Apart from the bad food the hotel bar was ok - no real atmosphere but very handy and friendly staff. The hotel location is between Saalbach and Hinterglemm. The ski bus stops directly outside the door and is free - a major plus. However there is a fair hike from the bus stop to the slopes the other end - the end result is your wrecked before you get to the pistes. In terms of cleanliness the hotel rates highly and was ok in terms of price but will not be returning on the basis of lack of proximity to slopes and tasteless food. But will definately be returning to the resort - pistes are amazing, apres ski was superb and the ski school was great.

I have stayed in this hotel many times when i have been skiing, we go back every year!!
It has a great location in between the two towns for skiing and the hotel itself has a lovely family feel. The rooms are very spacious and nice and cozy after a hard day of skiing. The bar downstairs is fun and the guy behind the bar recognised us when we went back. Saalbach also has great nightlife and i'm always dragging my dad on the pub crawls (he loves it really!!!).
This year my nephew and sister-in-law came with us and we had a brilliant time. They have changed the restaurant, so keeping it modern and updated.
The skiing in this area is fantastic, even if you don't go to ski the views are spectacular.
Go to this hotel for a warm family welcome, you won't be disappointed!!!!!

It was given a 3 star rating and we were pleasantly surprised by the standard of the rooms. We were given a newly renovated room which was pretty well done with new bathrooms and even a flat screen TV. However not all the rooms are renovated. However we have opted to stay in the older rooms as we had requested a change of room for one with a balcony which we had found acceptable.

The hotel is located between Saalbach and Hinterglemm and you would have to hop on the ski bus to get to the ski lifts. Fortunately the bus stops are just in front of the hotel.

The hotel comes with half board. The buffet breakfast served was pretty good. Unfortunately the dinners was not very good. Aside from the dinners, overall we considered the hotel good value for money. The average rating given was due to the standard of food served during dinner.

You can check out the hotel on the following website: http://www.tophit.at/hotelaustria/index2.php
Please note that the pictures in the website are before the renovation.
