“A fantastic hotel in a great resort”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

We have just come back from a week's holiday over the new year in Mayrhofen. We have skied in France and Switzerland but for us (a family of 4 with 2 good skiers, and 2 almost intermediate skiers) Austria is just the best country to ski in. Children are very well catered for in the restaurants and on the slopes - but in a way which still feels like you are having a holiday rather than being on some sort of over organised school trip.
Although it was busy over the new year period, we found the ski lifts completely manageable as long as you avoided the half hour before and after ski school - we skied very happily without any queue problems from 10 til 4.30 each day, but if you are really queue adverse, you can always take the free ski bus to one of the less busy mountains and start there. The bus stops a minute from the hotel's ski cellar and is very frequent due to the proximity of the hotel to the main station (although you would never know that you were anywhere near it from a noise perspective or even to look at!).
The hotel itself was FANTASTIC! The staff couldn't do enough for us, and Anne-Marie on the front desk was an absolute star. She was incredibly helpful and professional with regards to making our stay at the hotel brilliant, but also knowledgeable and prepared to help with questions about Mayrhofen itself, skiing, the bus etc etc. The Hotel was beautifully furnished in keeping with Austrian character, comfortable and beautifully clean. The staff in general were fantastic and the level of service we had in the Hotel's Elizabeth restaurant (provided by Antonis) was second to none with the staff being very warm and friendly, but also being very professional knowing everything about the food and wine they were serving. They were also fantastic about catering for the sometimes slightly different needs and tastes of our daughter!
Our room was spectacular and the views were amazing. Again they were furnished very nicely and the children enjoyed the TV which had a few English channels amongst many others. As with other Austrian hotels, there wasn't a kettle in the room, but room service was very quick and you could always bring drinks up from the bar.
The pool and saunas were always very clean and aside from a coupe of noisy children one day, it was a great way to relax after a day on the slopes before dinner.
We traveled with Crystal although we didn't take up any of their services once we arrived at the hotel. With billiards, table tennis, skittles, the pool etc provided by the hotel, we didn't feel the need to join in any other entertainment. Although they also provided a ski guide service, we also didn't feel the need to use it as we just followed the suggested routes on the piste map (why don't more resorts do that?!).
As noted by a previous reviewer, the evening singing duo ('Axis') certainly grow on you and we became very fond of their folk rendition of the UK's current top 10!!
Two things we would recommend - one, get your skis/boards and boots from MANNI'S which is opposite the hotel on the main street. They give a 15% discount to hotel residents (and only 10% to tour operators!!). The staff were superb - able to cater for us as a family with different abilities and peculiarities! (getting the right kit has always been a problem as we have always felt rushed and slightly coerced into getting kitted out, but here the slightly more mature lady could not only speak good English but she could also read between the lines and for the first time ever we all had comfortable boots and didn't have to go back mid holiday at all!). The second tip would be trying the deli/cafe opposite the Penken lift and the cafe on the same side as the Penken lift a short way down towards the hotel (I think it is called the Konditorei and Backerei bakery/cafe). The deli/cafe does fantastic Goulash and schnitzel in a roll for only a few Euro, and the bakery/cafe does a great hot chocolate and apple strudel!
All in all a fantastic holiday and we will definitely go back.

Room Tip: We had a suite with a balcony looking out towards the Penken lift. We had booked two rooms but were...

Firstly the location is very close to the train station. There are ski buses right outside however it is a fair walk to Penken lift.
All the staff are excellent. Extremely helpful and spoke great English.
The rooms were massive.Had a seperate living room.with sofa, tv, mini bar and dining table. The bed was massive with 2 single duvets which seems comman in Germany and Austria.(we loved it by end). Bathroom was large and always cleaned with fresh towels. Tv even had itv if you like abit of English tv while away.
The hotel had its own ski boot room which was handy.
It had a lovely sauna area to use with jaqcuzzi, swimming pool and sauna. It was set in a conservatory with wonderful views of the mountains and was it very relaxing to lay on the loungers looking out at the view.
The hotel seemed to have a few restaurants. We were half board. For breakfast there was a buffet with hot egg station, warm croissants, toast, ham, cheese, fruit and cereals. Was lovely!
For evening meal there was always a soup, salad buffet, a choice of main from the menu, then desert followee by cheese and biscuits. The food was all lovely. Although very german/austrian so dont except chips and pizza.
Overall the chalet was great. Resort was a little quiet at beginning of December but the hotel was excellent!

This review is in regard to our five night stay (October 3 - October 8) in the Bellavista Apartment which is in the Chalet Neuhaus building which is a free standing building beside the the Hotel Alpendomizil Neuhaus. The Chalet Neuhaus building contains two very separate apartments each with their own entrance. On the first floor is the apartment La Montanara and on the second floor (one flight of internal stairs with a very sturdy stair rail) is the Bellavista Apartment. Bellavista is a large apartment with two bedrooms (one with a king size bed and the second bedroom with a set of two twin beds) both with ensuite bathrooms. The bathroom attached to the main bedroom was very spacious with a large bathtub with a rain shower overhead and two sinks with lots of counter space. The second bathroom had a large nice glass shower. The living room, dining room and kitchen were open plan and their was plenty of seating. The living room contained a large sofa and two really comfortable leather chairs. The dining room had a corner built-in bench type of seating with two additional chairs and a large table. The kitchen area was well equiped with a half size refrigerator, surface unit and a dishwasher. In the apartment their was literally walls of storage space with lots of drawers and hanging space. Much room to unpack and put away the suit cases. Both of the bedrooms had tv's and the living room also had one. The apartment was spotlessly clean, the towels were soft and fluffy and the bed sheets were soft also. We were a family of three, my husband, our adult son and myself. We were very comfortable with our accommodations and were able to have our own space. One of the very very best things about Bellavista is the balcony which faced toward the South with unobstructed views of the beautiful mountains in the distance. A huge grassy green field/space allowed these long distance views as no buildings were within about 300 yards of the balcony. Three sets of double doors opened onto the balcony which had a table and chairs for sitting out and enjoying the views. From the balcony you could see the chairs of the Penken Chairlift in operation and also daily we saw the many hang-gliders flying around. The apartment was very private with luxuary furnishings yet you had access to all the wonderful ammenities of the hotel. We rented the apartment with breakfast included but you could also rent on a half board basis. Breakfast was taken in the main building of the hotel which was a mere two minute walk away.

The hotel has several attached buildings with beautiful decorations and dining room choices. The huge garden area with lots of seating arrangements, different types of fruit trees, a small pond and even a small lovely chapel was a great space for some quiet time. We were in Mayrhofen to attend the annual Almabtrieb (cow parade) festival and the town was very busy with other tourist. But the hotel, grounds and especially our Bellavista apartment were very quiet. The location of the hotel/chalet are very convenient to everything in the small wonderful town of Mayrhofen.

I can not say enough kind words to express my appreciation for all the help in planning our stay at Chalet Neuhaus that I received from the reception staff. Even though I could find many reviews and opinions on the hotel accommodations on TripAdvisor I could not find any specifically on Chalet Neuhaus. The hotel's web site does show lovely pictures of Chalet Neuhaus and they are indeed accurate. The many many e-mails with tons of questions sent to the hotel by me were always answered in detail and with many expressions to please ask again if I had any more questions. Maria and Elizabeth were absolutely outstanding in their high degree of customer service either with their return e-mails to me or in person after our arrival. Both always smiling and taking time to make you feel that anything you ask was important to them. Several others who had corresponded with me also were Anna Marie and Theresa and I thank you again also for your help.

The breakfast buffet was outstanding. You are assigned a table on your first morning and it was reserved for you for all your following mornings. Your beverage order is taken and delivered to your table. Our breakfast young lady's name was Andrea and she was very nice and smiled a lot. And if you wanted to have eggs for breakfast their was a very nice lady who would cook your eggs anyway you wanted them. Several mornings I ordered a boiled egg and it was cooked perfectly. All the various cheese and meat selections, cereal choices, bread and rolls were very attractively displayed and with several serving stations easy to access.

I hope if you are considering staying in Chalet Neuhaus that my review helps. We found it perfect for our needs and it exceeded our comfort level. And I would stay in either the main hotel or the Chalet Neuhaus again without giving it a second thought.

Room Tip: South facing rooms/apartments have lovely mountain views

We had a week here in the Summer 2012 and had a fantastic stay. We were in a family room in the appartments across the road above the sports bar. Our room (suite!) was huge and recently updated so everything was perfect. We knew on booking with Crystal that we would be in the appartments and were very pleasantly surprised with how amazing it was.
The food in the hotel for meals was always excellent with plenty of choice. The children's option was also lovely, if a bit big for a 3 year old, so we often ordered the main adult option meal for him which meant we could finish it when he had eaten enough!
The free bike hire was brilliant and gave access to all the other chair lifts/cable cars down the valley for more walking choice.
We had a medical emergency and the Crystal reps and the Doctor we saw couldn't have done more or looked after us better. Our son split his chin open and we only had to pay for the cost of the glue (stitches would have been free) which was less than our excess so no insurance claim.
The staff at the Neuhaus were very friendly and welcoming with plenty of advice on where to visit and what to do as there is so much choice in Mayrhofen!
All round fantastic holiday!

Room Tip: If you aren't in the main hotel ask for the Appartments as I understand the Landhaus rooms are s...

We stayed in this hotel for a week in August and couldnt have been happier. The hotel has an indoor and out door pool aswell as a relaxation area with saunas and steam rooms etc. The location couldnt have been better as its just off the main street, is the closest hotel to the train station and just a short distance to the cable car. The staff are extremely helpfull and the food was beautiful. Our room has a massive balcony that overlooked the swimming pool and was a pure sun trap. This hotel really is a charming place to stay in the tirol. There is another hotel in the town call Hotel Neuhaus so just becareful that you choose the correct hotel when booking

We just returned form a week break at the Hotel Neuhaus in Mayrhofen... and what a week it was!!!

The hotel is charming in traditional Tyrolean style with lots of wood panelling and ceilings, and although the hotel contained modern facilities, the hotel retained a certain character.
Firstly the weather was really hot and sticky, well into the 30s Celsius every day, which was a bit hot, and not many places had air-conditioning as these temperatures are probably quite unusual even for early July.
We had been in Mayrhofen several times previously, but always stayed at other hotels; but next time I reckon we will book straight back at the Neuhaus. We took our twin grandsons, got a great deal from the hotel via Thomson/Crystal; the food was great and the staff could not be more accommodating with our grandsons and their culinary requirements. We had a 'quad-room' which was a suite consisting of large living room with drop down large comfortable bed, 42" flat screen TV with loads of channels, large balcony/roof terrace, huge bedroom, big bathroom and separate WC. Plenty of rooms for boys, boots and all our stuff. We were half-board, and the food was pelntiful, and the choice was varied and delicious. Breakfast was buffet hot and cold, and hot breakfasts cooked fresh individually as your requirements. Evening meals were 6 courses including a salad and cheese buffet, and were always prompt and plentiful. the hotel had a comprehensive spa, indoor pool and sauna, indoor bowling in the adjacent Annexe which was connected by an underground passage (handy if the weather was poor), and large gardens with extensive sun terraces and ample loungers and parasols. Our boys enjoyed the kindergarten in the hotel grounds. The location of the hotel is ideal, close to the town centre, and very close to the railway and bus station. The Penkenbahn and Ahornbahn cable cars are less than 10 mins walk away through the delightful town of Mayrhofen. There is plenty to do in Mayrhofen for individuals, couples and families.

Did we enjoy Mayrhofen ? .... YES
Would we recommend the Hotel Neuhaus ? ..... CERTAINLY
Will we return to the Neuhaus ? .... DEFINITELY

Room Tip: All of the rooms are excellent, the St Josephs Annexe is newer, but not any better than the main hot...

We ski every year in Mayrhofen, staying more than ten times in different renowned four-star hotels and we can definitely say that it is a very solid hotel.
The location is one of the best in town, very close to the main street, and the railway station, ski bus stop etc.
We booked a Penken Suite in the main building, what we can recommend. All rooms and suites are precisely described on the hotel’s website so no one can be disappointed booking a specific room directly with the hotel.
Both Alpendomizil’s design and cuisine accent traditional Tyrolean culture. There are many different dining rooms, some of them are big and some quite small, with antique and new furniture. We were on a half-board basis and we liked very much our elegant Elisabeth restaurant. The cuisine is mostly regional and its value is the simplicity and purity of regional and seasonal ingredients. The dinner consist of well-balanced, diversified, high quality 6-course menu including salad/cheese buffet and, sometimes, dessert or starters buffet which we liked especially.
Our suite was stylish, furnished in a very good taste, very clean, with a big terrace and great view.
As we traveled with a 9-years old daughter we enjoyed very much a beautiful informal garden and a wooden playground with a Tyrolean line.
The indoor swimming pool was very nice but cold. It was Easter and it was a little bit crowded. Some guests didn’t observe the rules of the indoor-pool area and laid on loungers not in bathing suites but fully dressed, even in boots, what was unpleasant.
Staff were efficient but could be more generous with the smiles to help guests feel more comfortable. Considering high standards of service ensured in other hotels in Mayrhofen it is an issue deserving substantial improvement.
Overall, a good, comfortable hotel for those wanted to experience the traditional Tyrolean culture.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main building, facing south
