You really get to know about a place and its staff when things don't go to plan. Not only did the Kroll family and the staff do all they could to help us with the various medical issues we had in our group but they took personal concern and interest in our problems. We can't thank them enough for all they did for us. So that's the calibre of the staff and management -superb. Onto the hotel itself: beautiful building, superbly decorated, rooms comfortable and adequately equipped, lovely spa area although beware it is Austrian style - no swimming costumes. What really makes it special though are the extras like the seasonal decorations: daffodils, hyacinths and the Easter bunnies were just so cute. Food was excellent, great selection at breakfast buffet and wonderful 4 course dinners. Location is in the center of the town - a bit of a walk to the ski lifts but free bus stops right outside. Heated boot racks in the ski room. I was very close to the church and yes you can hear the bells (every quarter hour and they go nuts at 7am and 7pm) but with ear plugs I had no problem.

My step son was taken seriously ill on 2nd day of our holiday. Mr & Mrs Kroll were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble, they even insisted on phoning the hospital for us every day before visiting to save our phone bills. They provided food late at night for my husband. Food was amazing. All staff incredibly helpful. Hotel was beautiful, spotlessly clean etc etc. We would definatley go back, hopefully with all the trauma and have a very relaxing holiday with them. Hotel Kramerwirt is definatley the best hotel I have ever stayed in.

Room Tip: We had no problem with the church bells. Our friend had a room at the front of the hotel and had no...

This was our first visit to the hotel and even Austria itself so we didn't really know what to expect, we got off the coach and were quickly greeted by the reception staff who were awesome and very efficient in getting us into our room. They were very well mannered and went out of their way to ensure that we had everything we needed.

Once that was all sorted and we were shown to our rooms. On the way we couldn't help notice the traditional decor of the hotel, the halls have large bookcases, family trees that span generations, religious murals and pictures from ages ago of the Kroll family. This we thought was really cool because it wasn't your typical boring white walled hotel, this hotel has lots of character and that's what we wanted.

Once in the room the traditional decor remains but simplified, the furniture is all solid wood and the bed was a huge wooden frame with side tables, over by the large window & Balcony area there was an armchair with a small table and a single wooden seat. The room also had a TV & safe with extra bedding and pillows below the stand. The room was en suite with a WC/shower/sink. Very basic and that's all we wanted.

When it was time for dinner in the evening (18:30 onwards) we were allocated the same table for the duration of the holiday and this was great so no fighting for position.
The food in this place really was a massive highlight for us. Every morning you are given a choice of three main meals (2 meat + 1 veggie) which includes two set starters and dessert. We really did struggle to choose every time we were asked to pick the meal for the following evening, everything sounded amazing. Sometimes there would be a buffet dessert or main and these were huge, I mean two tables full of buffet food, great for food lovers who want to try everything and everything! I would certainly recommend that you go half board as the cooked &/or continental breakfast is just as good.
The kroll family have their own butchers and all the meat for breakfast/dinner is from there. the sausages and bacon were a winnner for me. There's nothing better than stuffing yourself on the huge breakfast before 8 hours of boarding, again the food is amazingly good.

I have to mention the staff at the hotel also, not only did they go out of their way to help you no matter how silly the request but they had a smile on their faces at the same time. The meal/reception service are top and they're always there to help. We were served at meal times by Tina, who was absolutely lovely, she was very chatty and made jokes about how she preferred skiing to snowboarding and how we'd picked the wrong sport and she was loads of fun. She particularly stood out for us as she was so helpful and happy.

The hotel itself was kept warm at all times, the room temperature was also kept at a nice temp when we arrived and this could be changed to suit your preference. There was a huge Ski/Board room which had heated boot/board racks. Having being used to towelling down my board after a session this was a welcomed change, you just stuck your kit on the rails and the next day it was ready for another day of snow. There was an onsite casino next door which I (luckily) only ventured into once for a look but again if that's what you're after it's there. Our rooms were cleaned daily and really were looked after.

I have read some reviews which mention the bells of the church over the street from the Kramerwirt and yes the bells do chime every hour and coming from someone with a room looking onto the church, I really didn't have a problem. I don't know if it;s because myself and my Fiancée are heavy sleepers or not but they didn't wake us once. It was nice to hear them on a morning because you were always reminded of the time for breakfast ect.

The location of the hotel is brilliant, you're only a 10 minute walk from the Penken Gondola and a few more minutes walk away from the Ahorn, this is a perfect way to get the legs warmed up before 8 hours of boarding. If you don't fancy the walk up the main street then the hotel has a bus stop right outside for the free bus service which arrives every 10 minutes and takes you up to both lifts.
The hotel is also only a 5 minute walk away from the Mayrhofen train station, this is where you catch the free 'Green line' bus to the Hintertux Glacier. This is a must as it has some awesome red runs and if you go on the first day you'll be the only people on there for hours. The first bus leaves at 07:30 and run every 30 minutes till late in the evening.

The hotel sits right next to the main street in Mayrhofen, once you cross through the church car park you're right outside Inter Sport (which has free WiFi outside) and the centre of the bars, shops and supermarkets. There is a nice sized supermarket just up the road from the hotel too which sells everything you could possibly need and the hotel staff can provide you with a rental mini fridge for beer if you need one.

To sum it up this hotel was everything we wanted and more. Everything was so clean which was something we notice straight away, the staff really do go out of their way to make sure the place is looked after and this is a family business it has all the personal touches. This really shows compared to the more chain like places. The food was excellent and sometimes the only bad thing was worrying that you picked the wrong choice when you saw other folks food. We will be coming back to this hotel when we visit Hoff again.

There is a reason that the Kramerwirt (as I type this) is the #1 rated hotel in Mayrhofen, I really wouldn't look anywhere else. This place has it all.

This was our fourth visit to the Kramerwirt and it never fails to impress. We are so well looked after when we stay here that it feels like coming home.
From the heartfelt welcome by Mr and Mrs Kroll to the friendly banter with Christian, everything is done to an exceptional standard.
Further to this our 21 month old daughter was catered for and nothing was too much bother. (Even if she preferred to dance around as opposed to sitting in her seat)
To all of the staff at the Kramerwirt, thank you so much; we will be back!

First impressions of this hotel are very good.
The welcome is warm and friendly, the food in the restaurant is a good standard and there is always more than enough to fill the heartiest of appetite.
Tina the lovely lady that took care of us in the restaurant for a week was really engaging, helpful and very efficient.
The rooms are very comfortable and as spacious as any I have stayed in, in a ski resort.
The Hotel has been there in the family for centuries and there is a lot of history in the place combined with its classic Austrian style makes the place very charming building to walk about.

For me the negatives outweighed the positives
The church right next door to the hotel rings the bells every hour on the hour.
Just in case you managed to sleep through them they will ring them just before the hour and just after. Then at 7am they really let loose and kick out a full peal. I slept with ear plugs in every night and you could still hear it all night long and we all left the hotel exhausted.

Wifi – despite paying €15 for a week’s worth of internet connection I couldn’t get the wifi in my room and had to wander the hotel corridors in order to get connected to the slowest internet connection you could think of, if you have to stay connected for work youre better off heading to a bar or resturant in town.

It takes as long to walk to the lift as it does taking the bus due to the road system, approx 6-9mins but thats just the start you then have to get the lift up to resort and the queue up and downat the busy times can be very long.

Smoking – Everywhere in Mayerhoffen allows smoking, you can’t go into a restaurant or bar without coming out stinking.

We've stayed at the Kramerwirt for three years running and have just returned from our fourth winter trip. The hotel is conveniently located at the quiet North end of Mayrhofen, right next to the Church, ski bus stops to Ahorn, Penken & Horberg lifts and close to the Zillertalbahn for trains down the valley (to access the Zillertal arena and Kaltenbach ski areas) coaches up to Finkenberg, Tux and onward to the glacier at Hintertux.

The decor is typical modern alpine with well-furnished rooms and comfy beds.

The food, for those staying half-board, is excellent, with plentiful buffet-breakfasts and four-course evening meals mixing local Tyrollean cuisine with that from further afield in Europe. The dessert buffet night is not to be missed! The a-la-carte restaurant is also great & serves an astoundingly good Wiener schnitzel. Service is, as you'd expect, first class.

Mayrhofen has always had a problem with the main Penken life's propensity to develop a queue from hell. While the newish high-speed Penkenbahn sort-of addressed this, it can still snake round the spirals and onto the man street at peak times. You can easily avoid all this at the Kramerwirt by taking the express bus from the hotel to the Horbergbahn lift. Here the attendants have things under far better control (escalators, new covered queuing areas and split group/individual gondola loading). Save yourself a first day lift pass hassle by booking online through Mayrhofen Bergbahn's slightly clunky website.

The hotel has a secure, warm boot/ski drying room with individual boot dryers. This is next to the hotel's casino and children's room.

For those wanting to try something other than skiing or boarding, the half day excursion snow-shoeing at the top of the Gerlossteinbahn is great fun.

As a regular business traveller who generally loathes staying away thanks to cloned multinational hotels, the Kramerwirt provides a welcome respite. A proper luxurious hotel where you'll be well looked after. We'll be back!

Room Tip: South end of the hotel is furthest away from the 7am church bells. Though, with skiing working out a...

This really is a top hotel. I have stayed at the Postschlossl and NeuPost and this is a step up. Staff unbelievably friendly and helpful. Ideal location. All fixtures scream class. Food is restaurant standard. Breakfast Buffet is magnificent. Unfortunately we were poorly for much of the week and missed much of the meals. The owner was prepared to cook up her own special soup for us, give us bottles of fizzy water and bananas on request. Only down for me was Internet performance which was incapable of streaming and would only work in main building when we were annexed based. 30 euros for two machines was not goo value. That said would not stay anywhere else and will be back at Easter!

Room Tip: Avoid room 614 if light sleeper who likes a lie in. Choose if you want a fantastic balcony with supe...
