I first sat in Cafe Tirol as a 23-yr old 40 years ago in 1973, a small family run restaurant with a few bedrooms upstairs for rent - greeted by Ollie the owner. Mayrhofen itself was still a small hamlet with a working farm directly opposite the Cafe and cows roaming the village. I arrived on the steam train (then the main mode of transport whereas today just a tourist curiosity) to spend Christmas for a couple of days, fell in love with it and stayed 8 years. I returned 15 years later with my wife and our 2-year old daughter - staying at the Cafe and Ollie still there :-) - but the village greatly changed - wealthier, a new highway replacing the winding farm tracks that had passed for roads when I first arrived, and the pristine crispness and quiet of a winter night now gone and replaced with something else. All things change, but the charm of Cafe Tirol remains. Go there :-) Expore :-)
