Went to Strass with husband and 5year old daughter having returned from Zellamsee just a few weeks earlier. Large hotel, first impression were pleasing. Had to wait in busy reception area to check in which took a while but the desk staff were still smiling when was my turn and made me feel welcome and gave me directions and hotel info. Had a bit of a treck to the room (thro reception, up stairs, across glass walkway) and heart sank when saw room location - first room at a junction which indicated high noise levels (we always seem to be unlucky - never located at end of corridor). However we never experienced much noise at all so really pleased and our room was great! Very spacious which was a big suprise. Two comfy single beds pushed together for myself and hubby and put up bed for daughter (surprising very comfy as I discovered one evening after playing musical beds). Very comfortable but we are always disappointed when get only one pillow. There was plenty of floor space, chairs, sofa, wardrobe and long dressing table. English tv channels kept daughter entertained (tho she favoured German channels) also open balcony that ran the length of the hotel. Room was always cleaned very well. The ski lockers was large and a bit of a maze and sometimes busy but everything you need. Can pay for locker or just rack your stuff up which we did and had no problems. Heated boot racks were welcomed. Spa - I never really made use of this but appeared well used and welcomed by others. Being a prudish Brit, no way was I using naked sauna (why does it gave to be naked? Can't be for hygiene reasons!!!?? And I believe they were very strict about this). I was slightly disappointed by size of pool for such a large hotel but husband thought was fine (different expectations) but was slightly too cold for our liking and didn't want to stay in too long. Can get bathrobes for 30 euro deposit which is refunded on return. Tip would be to take some flip flops. Restaurant - evening meal was very good quality. Breakfast disappointing as nothing hot so got a bit tedious eating cereal, fruit salad, toast, ham cheese. Big plus with the restaurant was our serving staff. They were fab and seemed to live there morning and night! You get allocated a table and tend to have same staff looking after your table. We had a wonderful wonderful chap called Ewald (I hope hotel reads this and takes note and praises him). He was so friendly, nothing was too much bother and he made special fuss over daughter. We also had a lady (can't remember name) who didn't really speak English so tricky communicating easily but she always had a massive smile. We tipped at the end if the week. Massive plus of the hotel is location - literally next door to Penken gondola. Be warned after 8:30 lift busy and queues. Right opposite hotel is a large well stocked Spar and there is a wonderful looking butcher shop/snack place. We never ate there as always looked heaving but we salivated every day walking past and heard so many people talking about its amazing food so check it out. There were lots of German speaking people and Russians. Ski school quality for my daughter appeared good and my daughter was quite happy but very very small percentage British and they never really spoke much to my daughter in English which I was upset with (she was only 5 and in a group of 7-10 year old Germans). All in all I would recommend.

Yet again thank you to all at Hotel Strass for a great week during Snowbombing music festival.
I look forward to music and snow again next year.
Hotel rooms are very comfortable, bar livley, and proximity to Penken lift and Hans the Butchers (The ribs are a must) make it hard to beat.
Staff were really friendly and helpfull
Thank you Strass

It is a fine hotel, but we were very disappointed by the fact that they didn 't 'refuse' our reservation... Apparently this hotel is one of the hosts of the snowbombingfestival which takes place for one week during Easter. Our group never heard of it. So we booked for four families with little children. We were very surprised to see that there where no other children in the hotel. Even more... the other guests were all party people and organisers of the event. Party's went on all night long. EVERYWHERE: in the lobby, the bar and even in the rooms until 4, 5, 6 am. Loud basses went up the elevator shafts straight into our rooms. A whole week long!! Drunk people everywhere!
We absolutely do not understand why the touroperator or hotel did not inform or refuse us???

Room Tip: Choose a room as high as you can

we have just returned from a week at the Strass in Mayrhofen. We stayed in the sport part of the hotel. The location of the hotel is 100%, right next to the penken gondola which is a real benefit at the end of a tiring day skiing. The rooms we large and very clean and comfortable. Our room was on the third floor on the front corner with balcony, bath and shower. Although we could hear music from the bar some nights we were so tired we fell asleep amyway. Occasionally you could hear noise from the main street through the night so I would ask for a room at the back next time we stay. The reception staff were informative but the restaurant staff were really lovely, friendly and very attentive. The spa and pool area is excellent. Our 8 year old daugter loved it. There was also a games room which was well equipped. It would have been nice if there had been a childrens disco some nights. The food was very good with choices of mains, fresh salad bar, starters, soup and pudding. The is also a childrens menu which adukts can choose from too. Breakfast is an excellent buffet with everything youcould ask for. We don't normally ski in the same place twice or stay in the ame hotel but we may well be back at the Strass next year! Great holiday indeed.
