“WOW!!! WHAT A GEM”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2010

What can I say? Have just come back from a weeks snowboarding and stayed at this hotel. Can only say, this has to be one of the most underated hotels I have stayed in. Service was exceptional, friendly, very attentive to our needs and would put a lot of other hotels with a higher rating to shame. Food was fantastic, 4 course meal very night, lots of variation and plenty of it. Buffet breakfast, hot & cold options. We stayed in a family room and had no complaints. Location was everything in this resort, the hotel was 5 mins walk from Maiskogel lift and the ski bus to the glacier stopped outside front door every 15 mins. Local shops and bars within 200m. Cannot wait to go back for New Year.

Just got back from a week staying at the Mitteregger in Kaprun.
My room was plain, but warm, spotlessly clean and comfortable.
There was no English language channel on the TV - but I was there to ski, not to watch TV.
I was on a half board package and the food was absolutely excellent.
Breakfast was a self service buffet - yoghurt, cold meats, cheese, bread as well as eggs and bacon.
Evening meal was a soup, starter course, self service salad buffet, main course and desert - all delicious. There was a vegetarian main course option each day.
The staff were friendly and spoke good English, and were kind enough not to laugh at my pathetic attempts to speak German.
There is a ski store room in the hotel, and the ski bus to the Kitzteinhorn stops right outside the door.
The bus stop for the ski bus to Zell am See was about 5 minutes walk away, at the foot of the Maiskogelbahn (the ski hill in Kaprun itself).
I was there at the end of the ski season, so the town was fairly quiet in the evenings. There were several good bars close to the hotel (and a bar in the hotel itself). Paletti's bar just around the corner was my favourite for what it's worth.
As for the skiing - the three mountains (well, two mountains and a big hill) covered by the Europasport ski pass gave me enough terrain to keep very happy for a week. I would rate myself as an experienced but not very adventurous skier and I was quite comfortable on all of the black runs that I tried. Those seeking white knuckle thrills or gigantic moguls may prefer to look elsewhere.

when myself and my girlfriend stayed there i have to say we were dissapointed at the very basic room we got. it was on the top floor and seemed to be one of the more meger rooms. on arrival we were greated by a wee still in the tolet with a spit floating on top of it..not nice really. only cnn news for an english chaneel which was a bit much i thought. the food was fine but towards the end of the holiday we we a bit bored by the hotel as in there was not much room to chill out on the hard wooden seats in the bar. it has a nice apperance inside and out and has a charming traditonal look.

We were a party of 3 adults and one teenager staying in two rooms at the Mitteregger for a week's skiing holiday in February 2007. This was our second stay at this hotel, the first being about 6 years ago.

From that you can see that we thought the hotel to be good from our first visit and we weren't disappointed during our second stay.

The rooms are comfortable but basic - no tea or coffee making facilities and no English channel TV in one room - but hey, we were there for the skiing (which was great despite the lack of snow at low levels) so we had all we needed.

The real plus of the Mitteregger is the food which is excellent. Hearty cooking, plenty of variety and the mid-week fish buffet evening is spectacular.

There is a small but friendly bar area and during the day there is a pleasant terrace for taking drinks and snacks.

Not much else in the way of facilities. The staff are friendly and most speak good English.

Kaprun itself is a nice little town and the skiing locally is very good for beginner/intermediate standard.

We will happily return to the Mitteregger if we come back to Kaprun in the future.

  • Liked — Great food.
  • Disliked — Basic hotel with few facilities
