We found this hotel to be fab. The place was spotlessly clean and the rooms were cleaned and tidied every day with the towels changed as much as we needed. The food was excellent with a 5 course meal every night - buffet salads/starters, soup, main course, dessert and then cheese board. As far as we could see the buffet was being constantly refilled and I they boiled eggs especially for me as they'd run out (we were down quite late that day!).
Contrary to one previous report, the drinks in the hotel were not overpriced and were in line with elsewhere in the resort. Also, you weren't charged for water.
We did notice that the staff spoke more to the Germans however we didn't think this unusual or annoying as they speak the same language, its obviously easier to converse with someone who speaks your language and they certainly did their best and we couldn't speak German so can't criticise. We found all the staff to be friendly and helpful at all times.
One thing however, which I don't think is particular to just this hotel, is that the saunas are 'No Clothes Allowed' which certainly put me off and I imagine most other Brits would feel that same. That was a bit of a shame as I couldn't fully enjoy the facilities, although the pool was nice. Unfortunately the gym wasn't fully set up although we were there very early in the season (only have opened for Summer the previous day) and it may well now be.
The hotel is very centrally located and handy for catching the Postbus to the local sites (included in the summer card which proved to be a godsend and saved us loads of euros). We arrived Saturday lunchtime and the resort was virtually shut - shops are closed Saturday pm and all day Sunday, also a lot of the bars weren't open yet for the Summer. I imagine in the height of summer and/or winter, the place will be much more lively.

We were very well looked-after here: clean, comfortable rooms, good facilities, excellent food and lots of it. It's family-run and the hostess came to speak to us at dinner on several occasions to make sure we were happy. They put a lot of effort into making our stay trouble-free, such as special diet for one person, and helping me find a dentist when I broke a tooth.
I think those people who have posted negative comments about the staff are maybe not appreciating the cultural differences in Austria. They are more conservative and restrained than the Brits tend to be, especially when we're on holiday! Yes you can find more UK-oriented hotels in Austria, but I don't know why you'd want to, this is much more of an authentic experience and better for it.

We have been to Kaprun on many occasions, stayed at a number of 4 star hotels and been very pleased, upon hearing glowing reviews of the Taunernhof we booked to go in Feb 2010.

The rooms were comfortable, clean and warm, however the food and service really let the hotel down. Upon the evening of arrival, the buffet was not replenished with many bowls completely empty on the buffet table, the main meal was meat and pasta with no sauce or vegetables. We hoped that the meals would improve along with the very slow service, unfortunately it did not.

Breakfast was very disappointing; the cooked breakfast had usually run out, along with the orange juice and the fruit salad. It seemed that only the Germans received table service at breakfast.

The drinks were very expensive, they even charged for tap water, which we only ordered as the drinks were much more expensive compared to the local bars in the resort.

I would not recommend this hotel. Last year we stayed at the Orgler in Kaprun, which is dated but it suits the hotel, the food was fantastic along with impeccable service, it is slightly more expensive than the Taunernhof but well worth it.

we found a very pleasent staf fat the hotel and were delighted with the conditions which hotel Tauernhof offer to clients. We stayed in a Studio and the size is quite big.
The room for ski is well equipped. The food is various and is more than enough. Every evening can choose the dishes which doesnt repeat. The staff is very polite and pay attention to clients requests.
The WI-FI internet in Panorama bar is quite OK, also the modem in room can be take from reception. The location is not far away fron centre and behind the hotel is the ski school.
the hotel have a lot of facilities (swiming pool, sauna, masaj) and a small fitnnes room and room with biliard and other games.
As a recomandation I woul suggest to the Hotel owners to put a tea maker (a cup for boiled water) take into consideration that everybody go to ski and a hot tea (in room) is welcome.

This is an expertly run family hotel in a superb location next to the meeting place for ski school and with a bus stop outside. Everything is immediately around you including ski hire shops, chemist and tourist information. The hotel is fantastically clean, with great food to suit all tastes. The staff who are always kept extremely busy are so friendly and helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them (last year we were late arriving at 2.00 am after a very long drive from england but the management made sure their was food and drink wrapped up and left in our room). The hotel is so good we come back year after year (this was our 7th year) - we have stayed in other hotels in Kaprun but by far the Taurenhof is the best and suited for our needs as a family. Each year the hotel continues to improve the services and food it offers.
Kaprun itself is a great location having three separate areas to ski including the glacier which will always guarantee that you are able to ski coupled with the hotel it's a great place for a winter holiday. Highly recommend the Hotel and the Resort!

Fantastic hotel, lovely staff who when off duty still stopped to chat to our group when out with their friends! We were a large group and may not have been everyone's cup of tea as guests, we were though looked after really well, nothing was too much trouble, one of our party is on a gluten free diet which was catered for to a very high standard.

I cannot understand a previous review as we were there a week later and the staff were so friendly in an "Austrian way" of course they are not the "have a nice day" kind of people, the rooms were great, food was fantastic and varied and the best accolade is that we will be returning next year, same time same place!

I do not agree with some of the reviews above, our large group found the hosts to be the most friendly, engaging and helpful we have ever encountered. Stay here & enjoy a hearty large varied breakfast wonderful evening meals but also included in half board is the 'snack' buffet daily from 1430h. The 'Panorama Bar' is perfect for apres ski with amazing scenic views. The ski/board room is in the basement of the Hotel and is of a very high standard. I particularly liked using the Hotel's sauna and swimming pool after a day on the slopes. The hotel is 10 minutes walk from the slopes or regular free buses to all nearby pistes. Do not be put off this gem of a Hotel by some of the misleading reviews here.

Over the years, the family business was steadily expanded, most recently in 2012 with the building of a new, 500 m² wellness oasis christened the "Tauernreich". And so it was that, over the course of time, an inn was transformed into a hotel, one that more than does justice to the high expectations of modern hospitality. Tradition tried-and-true Today it is Gerald Gschwandtner and wife Inge who run the Tauernhof, constantly keeping a close eye on the wellbeing of their guests. With their children Rudi and Christina, the next generation is already standing right there at their side in order to continue a time-tested tradition on into the future.
