This was our first summer chalet holiday, and we really enjoyed it. We had a lovely bright clean room, excellent breakfast, and good packed lunches five days a week were a real bonus for walkers. evening meals were relaxed and convivial with good food and plenty of wine. No choice so would not suit fussy eaters. Great mix of ages and young staff team were a great hit with children and teenagers. We went on two exhilarating walks put on for free by local tourist office. Also white water rafting booked through Outdo was a great experience.

Our first experience of Austria, and the summer scenery and range of activities exceeded our expectations. The Inghams resort reps were faultless with their service and knowledge of the local area. The Inghams Chalet Mara team provided a first class service, with a warm welcome and fantastic meal on our late arrival on Sat evening. The standard and quality of meals throughout the week was excellent; afternoon tea and evening meals were exceptional! Dining with other chalet guests made excellent social evenings. Kaprun had enough facilities on the doorstep, with good bus services to Zell am See and beyond. On reflection we were glad to have opted for the 'lower key' resort of Kaprun rather than Zell am See. Excellent value for money holiday with Inghams, would recommend them to anyone.

Room Tip: It was worth selecting a room with balcony and en-suite facilities for a small premium.

We booked this Chalet as one of Inghams Lakes & Mountains Late Deals. This is the first year that they have been in Kaprun and the Chalet had only been in operation for 10 or so days when we arrived. That meant that the staff team were still bedding in and getting used to the place/working together/operating to Inghams standards etc but they had risen well to the task and, for the price paid, it would be wrong to complain about anything in the package.
Accommodation
This is really set up for the winter skiing season but is more than acceptable for summer guests too. I guess the only drawback, as in winter might be that the lounge would get a bit crushed with >16/18 guests.
Food
Food was well prepared and well cooked with plenty of wine. It might not always have been served as quickly as elsewhere in Austria but this gave everyone the chance to talk ( and drink more) between courses. The staff worked well as a team and complemented the relaxed feel of the place.
Location
It is situated in easy reach of plenty of outdoor activities with both low and high level walks as well as accessible for the Maiskogel Lift up to ~1500m where, again, there were plenty of things to see and do. Further up the valley, the lifts to the glacier run all year for those who want to see icew and snow close up. Similarly, there are reegular buses to Zell (week ticket ~14Eu) from where there is a wide network of trains & buses.

We stayed here for a week in feb and overall had a great time. The staff were really helpful and friendly rooms spacious warm and clean. It was a bit disappointing to find it didn't have a log fire but with 18 adults squeezed into the rather small lounge area it was quite warm enough! Breakfast cereals, choco flakes? and cornflakes for the same 18 adults was very poor but there was a hot option every day.
Yes the distance as has previously been mentioned is NOT 40m to ski bus stop more like 400 think they missed a zero off!
The ski areas are great and easily accessible by bus (zell being our least favourite too busy). If you're a group of adults going upgrade your lift pass before you use them to include salbaach and hinterglem. It's about an hour away though on two buses but it varied the week for us and had better snow and less busy than Zell. Worth mentioning also, Austria allows smoking in bars so après ski wasn't an option for us :(

Spent a week at chalet mara as Inghams Ski customers. The Chalet is well proportioned and spacious and only when everyone is in the lounge did it feel crowded although as we were a large group filling the chalet bar 2 other guests it wasn't really a drama. The 4 Chalet staff were great and looked after us all very well and the food was great if not a little small on the breakfast front.

The location as mentioned by another review is not quite a stated, its not a huge issue but if you were booking based on the 40M to the bus stop its not quite accurate. Its 5 min walk to the bus stop and a 10-15min walk with a child and kit to the Ski school assembly area.

On the whole the location is great! it seems once you get over the use of ski buses to get to and from the slopes its quite straight forward in kaprun and the lift pass gives free access to the buses. 3 separate nearby ski areas, Kitzsteinhorn , Maiskogel and Zell am see all offering something depending on the weather and all pretty easily accessible.

Overall the Chalet is a nice place so whoever is running it can't really change that but inghams are doing a pretty good job this season. It also helps that the snow this year is amazing and well over a meter fell in the week we were there and that always keeps a smile on everyones faces guests and hosts alike! ( unless you blow your knee out on day one but i can't blame chalet mara for that lol)

The chalet is very pleasant and the staff are very friendly. Childcare appears to be excellent (if you can stand the singing!) and on the whole everyone was very helpful. Rooms were of a good size and clean. Food was generally Ok, sometimes good. The wine, coffee, cakes and chocolate were abundant.

The only really bad point about this chalet is the brochure and associated marketting literature which suggests that the nearest bus stop is only 40m away. When we pointed out to the resort manager that it was nearer 0.5km, the response was...'oh, does it still say that in the brochure'...well it does and when you have young kids and skis, boots etc, the difference between 40metres and 500metres is a long way and lot of moaning!

We stayed at the Chalet Mara with our 2 boys aged 5 and 8 on an Esprit family adventure holiday in July/August this year and had an amazing time. The Esprit staff couldn't have been more helpful, informative, enthusiatic or motivated with us or our kids and they made the holiday for us. Our kids have always refused to do childcare before but after the first night of cocoa club (free childcare from 7.30-10pm each evening) we couldn't keep them away. Everything we asked about was instantly arranged by the staff for us with no problems. There was a huuge amount to do locally - summer skiing and toboganning, white water rafting (8yrs +), swimming in the lake at Zell and there was free entry in to a very good swimming complex in Kaprun. I can't recommend this holiday highly enough if you are people who like to be on the go, enjoy the sociability of a chalet and want your holiday to be made as pleasant and easy as possible by the excellent staff. Austria was stunning too!
