“Like joining the family for Sunday dinner”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014

We went here on Easter Sunday after attending church with President Carter. There's nothing fancy about the food here, but it's all quite good. The fried and roast chicken are both excellent; with moist and tender meat. If you like southern-style Collard greens, limas, squash, etc, then you are in for a treat. The broccoli casserole is super! But don't forget to get a piece of sweet potato pie or a bowl of peach cobbler. The staff are friendly and helpful to newcomers. You go through the line, get your food and are given tickets that show what you took. You pay on the way out. Probably that's normal for this sort of place, but we are Yankees, unaccustomed to the ways of the deep South!

“Good southern cookin'!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2014

The fried chicken was great! crispy outside and tender and moist inside. The squash casserole was YUM! also the collard greens were made with fat back for sure, and the peach cobbler perfectly ended this meal! Not fancy. Cafeteria style with trays and plastic dishes. Everyone ends up there after church! Hope they don't run out of the squash casserole!

“Okay Food in Plains”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 24, 2013 via mobile

The food at Mimmies, which is served cafeteria style is just okay. Nothing fancy and actually kind of bland. I got the pot roast, mashed potatoes, collard greens and bisquit. The best part of the meal were the greens. Everything else was bland and just okay. Even the bisquit sort of tasted dry and odd. The lemonade was okay. I did not try their desserts as I was too disappointed with the meal.

“Good meat and three...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

My family went to Mimmie's after hearing Jimmy Carter on a Sunday. The fried chicken was good and juicy, but they were out of it when we went through the line so I had to wait for it (and remind them that I was still owed my chicken). For a meat and three, this place is fairly average (most of them are). But if you do not live in the South and have never had a meat and three experience, this is a great chance to try one out. It is very representative of how small towns in the Southeastern US eat out. It is basically someone's family meals that they are sharing with others. A wonderful piece of culture for outsiders!

“Good Sunday Lunch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

We ate at Mimmie's Diner for Sunday lunch after hearing Jimmy Carter at Maranatha Baptist Church for our third time. This was also the third time we had eaten at this restaurant, although I believe it has had a different name each of the 3 times we've eaten there. The cafeteria style food was tasty, the sweet tea was excellent and the service was very good. My daughter was disappointed that there was no macaroni and cheese this particular Sunday, but our meal was enjoyed by both adults as well as children. It is really the only place to eat without driving out of town, but it really is a good option if you are looking for down-home southern cooking!
