“Small town - Great experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2008

We just stayed here for 3 nights and can't wait to find another reason to visit the area and stay in another of the inn's rooms! We stayed in the 1950's room, because the seating area and the bedroom area are separated. This allowed us to put the kids in the seating area to sleep and we could stay up to read in the bedroom area.

All of the rooms are great! My favorite was the 1920's room, complete with claw foot tub! The rooms are all impecably clean and each is very unique. The common areas are condusive to couples or families traveling together. You can meet for breakfast and or conversation in the kitchen area, the sitting area or on the balcony that overlooks Plains.

The staff here is fantastic...very accomodating and friendly. I would recommend this to anyone traveling to Plains, Americus, Andersonville, or Westville/Lumpkin.

Oh my, what to say! This was no doubt one of our all time favorite vacations, and the Plains Historic Inn was the nicest thing about the trip. Our first night we were booked into one room but we preferred nother and were allowed to move the next morning. There really isn't a bad room in the place, it's just a personal preference.

We were there at Christmas time and each room had a tree that was appropriate for the furnishings. The 50's room had one of those metal trees that many of us remember, and wish we didn't. ha

The continental breakfast was unusual in that it actually lasted from morning till bedtime. There were always some snacks availabe. There was a big table where several of us sat and visited well into the night a couple of times.

If you plan on going to Sunday school, which we did, a couple of tips here. Go early, around 8 o'clock. Ladies, make it easy on yourself, and the Secret Service men, and take a very small bag so that they don't have to plow through a big old purse. They do have to search your bag. Don't forget your camera if you want your picture taken with President and Mrs Carter. One of the ladies of the church will take it for you.

Sorry to get off topic here, but just sharing what little I know.

I am sure that no one will be disappointed with the Inn, or the town. And don't forget the antique store downstairs!

When on vacation, I always try to stay in unique hotels. This is not always easy on a budget for a family of four (my kids are now teens). The Plains Inn is like most small bed and breakfast hotels with only one bed per room, but it was so inexpensive I jumped at the chance to stay there. Wow! The rooms were huge, with a sitting area in every one. Each room was bigger than most suites. The wood plank floors, the brick outside walls, the antique furniture and the period decorations made the whole stay unique. With each room decorated by decade, we stayed in the 1930 (one big bed for us) and 1940 (twin beds for the kids) rooms. The claw-foot tub was huge, but stepping in was a little hard. The host warned us in advance which rooms were appropriate for which age group. My parents stayed in the 1950 room, as that room has a regular tub with shower for people who cannot step as high as they used to. I would stay again just for the feeling of small town warmth.

We found the Inn by chance. While stopping at the Visitors Center, Linda suggested we stay there. That caused me to remember seeing it on Foodtv. They even called the Inn for us to see if there was any rooms available. There was, and being from California, we rushed down before it was booked! Much to our surprise, no one else had booked any of the rooms yet. We were given the opportunity to view all the themed rooms. Naturally, we choose the "Presidental Suite". Each room/year is set up dealing with Jimmy Carter's life (done in the decades of 20's - 80's). We expected the rate to be very expensive but found it was very reasonable. Everyone was so wonderful and friendly in town, we stayed another night and found out when Jimmy Carter is in town, he teaches Sunday School at his church! Plan to go early though. It made our stay wonderful and we plan to go back again!
