Owner description: Former President Jimmy Carter occasionally visits this church for Sunday services.

It was incredible to be able to attend Sunday School taught by President Carter. It was such a privilege to listen to him discuss his impression of some current events and then a wonderful lesson. We stayed in Columbus, GA the night before and then drove about an hour to get to the church. Columbus has numerous hotel choices. We did not have a problem getting a seat by arriving at the church at 830 am. Sunday School starts at 10 am and lasts for about an hour. You can take photographs of President Carter at the beginning of his lesson. President Carter stays after the church services to allow visitors to have a photograph taken with him. If you don't want to stay after Sunday School is over, you can leave before the main service starts. If you leave, you won't have an opportunity to return later to meet the former President. The Maranatha Baptist Church website lists which days President Carter is scheduled to teach. We also enjoyed visiting President Carter's boyhood home and school. Plains Peanuts, on Main Street, is a nice place to sample and/or buy a variety of peanuts and peanut candies.

What a "once in a lifetime" opportunity to meet former president Jimmy Carter and hear him leading the Sunday School lesson. And afterward to get a photo taken with him and Mrs. Carter was so exciting. Obviously with that many visitors in attendance there were rules to follow. They were given with some humor sprinkled in, but you knew what was and wasn't allowed in your behavior. The Carters were very gracious to spend that extra time for pictures after the service. You could tell that to the regular members of the church he was the same Jimmy Carter that they had known growing up in Plains. I would highly recommend arranging a Sunday morning stop in Plains. Be sure to check the church's website for the dates that the president will be teaching.

It was a honor to meet and hear the teachings of President Carter. Mrs Carter was very friendly and both welcomed us to their church. Ms. Jan did a fantastic job since we had the unruley group show up on November 4th. Would love to come again and hear President Carter teach again or come to my church.

Organized service by Ms. Jan. Clear expectations of what to do and not to do. Meeting President Carter and hearing his teaching of the Bible. Hearing what state everyone was from.

President Carter teaches Sunday school here when he's in town, usually 3 out of 4 Sundays/month. You can go and listen to him, then after the church service you can even have your picture taken with him. Thrilling.
