“Excellent place to stay!”
Reviewed October 10, 2017 for a stay in September 2017

I am very impressed with this place. Waking up in the morning seeing the deer and turkey walking around the place, and the only sound you hear is the wind blowing thru the trees, makes it a really good morning. Its a lot better than waking up to sounds of horns honking and cars driving like I normally do.

My dog pepper, had a fun time running around the place smelling all of the smells. I have a picture of her looking thru one of the windows in the sun room at a deer that was eating grass two feet away from us. It was very fun watching her expressions until she decided to bark at the deer and it ran off.

I used the grill to cook steak and they have an awesome fire pit too. This place is a nice old house. I enjoyed reading the history of it.

I would highly recommend staying here. In fact, I have a friend of mine who is gong to look into it for next year. He is looking for a place to take his family.

Thanks for letting me stay for the week!

“Home away from home”
Reviewed August 4, 2017 for a stay in July 2017

My family loved the home and the surrounding property. The homestead is located conveniently close to some of the best destinations and attractions in Custer. We were only a few miles from Crazy /Horse and Mt. Rushmore, Sylvan Lake, the Black Elk Peak and wilderness, and Jewel Cave.
We enjoyed reading the Historical plaques that were located inside the house and on the surrounding buildings.
We also enjoyed exploring the acres of woodlands and pond around the property.
the kitchen was well-stocked, as was every other section of the house that included items we could have possibly needed. We appreciated their forethought and hospitality. They even provide WiFi.
Our dog was allowed to stay. He loved all of the new sights, sounds and smells.
A bonus, their new fire pit was ready when we arrived. Both the grill were excellent for cooking and spending time enjoying nature as a family.
We all agreed that we would book this place again if we return to Custer.

“Fantastic Place!”
Reviewed May 13, 2017 for a stay in May 2017

We chose to stay at the Kiddville Ranch and what a wonderful choice that turned out to be. The house is warm and cozy and reminded me of my grandmother's house. It is set out in the country on its own piece of land so it is quiet and serene.. the old mining buildings are very interesting to look at and make you feel like you've stepped back in time. You can't hear any road noise, only the sounds of birds chirping and Mother Nature. I can't recommend the place highly enough. The home is fully furnished with everything you could possibly want.
You are right down the road Crazy Horse, and everything is close by. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a very special place to stay while they take in the Beauty and the Majesty of the Black Hills.

“Most amazing vacation rental we have ever had!”

Bauman's were so nice. Home is adult/kid/pet friendly. Everything you need is there. We cooked all our meals with either the grill, oven or crock pot provided. Were able to wash and dry clothes. Dogs were able to go outside and run without worrying about bothering anyone. The location is top shelf. We would sit outside at nighttime and stare at both the big and little dipper. There is television and internet available, but at this location you won't want to sit in front of a computer or tv! The closeness to Crazy Horse, Mt. Rushmore, Badlands, Sturgis and Devil's Tower was perfect. We rode our motorcycles to all these locations. We were able to ride bicycles in the morning on local roads and hiking the property was fun, since the dogs were able to run and get rid of excess energy from a long ride from Pennsylvania. I would recommend this location to anyone who enjoys nature and likes privacy. This vacation was rated the best by our daughters' (32 and 36) that we ever had! They want to go back as do we!!!!! The worse part was having to pack up and go home. No one wanted to leave.

“Great family vacation rental”

We stayed at this rental for a week and we absolutely loved it. The kids were so excited about exploring the property with the historic buildings and playing some frisbee golf. The beds were bery comfortable. The kitchen had everything you needed plus some. The washing machine was a blessing. It was fun seeing the cows, birds and deer on the property. I also enjoyed reading a little of the history of the house. If you like peace, quiet and rustic this is the place for you.

“A Step Back in Time”

If you are open to something a "little rustic" (but with everything you need) and like a taste of history, this little treasure might be right up your alley. We stayed 3 nights and were quite comfortable in this 3-bedroom, 1 bath unit. There are signs all over the house and out buildings describing the history of the place. It was occupied from 1933 through 2007 by the same family, the last one departed for a "higher residence" in 2007 after living there from the time she and her husband bought it in 1933. She appears to have been an amazing woman and her touch is everywhere. Bluebirds were the dominant creature, but there were swallows and deer as well as a little house wren that woke us daily with her song. It is quiet and peaceful and the stars are brilliant if there is no competition from the moon. Located in a little valley at about 8 miles in from Custer via a well-maintained gravel road, it is also a quick hop to the Crazy Horse memorial (visible from the gravel road intersection with Hwy 385) and about 30 minutes from Mount Rushmore. If you go to the evening lighting ceremony at Rushmore, you'll find the drive home peaceful as all the traffic goes the other way toward Keystone and Rapid City. :-) But don't have your care detailed before you go. You might want to plan that for after you return. The dust from the gravel road will cover your car if the weather is dry.

Liked best: The peaceful, quiet location
Liked least: Dust from the road and the flies (which are inevitable where ranching is done).
