Had read one bad review on this KOA written by someone who had stayed the previous year, so I was leary. But I got here and wow we're they wrong! The staff was great, the food was great, the accommodations and scenery were fantastic. Thank you KOA for yet another great stay! I'd stay here again and again.

This review is for the Custer KOA - there are 2 or 3 KOA's in the area of Mt. Rushmore - so let me end that confusion. This is for the CUSTER KOA which sits on the outskirts of the town of Custer. This is a small KOA. The manager - Denny is gruff and unfriendly - and lacks customer service skill. The bathrooms are very untidy. My husband and my son complained DAILY about the clogged toilets - the woman's room also had clogged toilet (1) the floors in the bathroom were gross. The bathrooms are just not maintained & I've never stayed at a KOA that had a combonation lock on the bathhouse door-that was odd and a pain to fumble with!
The pool is NOT heated - it is TINY and COLD. If it is heated, its at the lowest possible setting - the pool doesn't open until Noon and closes at Dusk - c'mon, really? On days that are 80-90 degrees? These folks that run this place are all older, don't they realize that people with kids will come, kids want to swim, although again, with this tiny pool its a joke. The jumping pillow - YOU HAVE TO PAY! I never stayed at a KOA that charged an extra fee for the kids to jump!!!! That also closed at dusk, or 8 or 9 or whenever the person in the office felt like it - no consistency. The cabins have no A/C, but that's ok, the nights are cool enough. If you are a tent camper do NOT GO HERE, you will be miserable. All the sites were crummy, and super rocky. This was one of the worst KOA's ever. There were 4 staff members that we very friendly/nice, I do want to point that out, the majority just really need to be in a different line of work-they need to provide more activities for youths. On a positive note, although a bit pricey the breakfasts were tasty.
