“Great Birthday Present”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

My sister took me to see "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" at the Black Hills Playhouse on July 14. It was WONDERFUL. I saw the movie years ago and wasn't excited about the movie, so this was a delightful surprise. Eric Johnson leads a cast with impressive voices and acting abilities. He, Jeff Kinsbury, and Ceci Quintero stood out to me with their brilliant comedic timing. They cracked me up!!! The theater is historic and fun to visit on its own, but I'm sure it creates serious staging challenges. That said, the director did a terrific job of using the intimate atmosphere of the playhouse to include the audience in the play. The asides, the blocking through the aisles, seemed natural and pulled the audience right in. Thank you sis, for the great birthday present!

“Something familiar; something peculiar”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

If you're in the area through July 21, don't miss the Playhouse production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." Hysterical! You will be amazed at the talent -- especially the impeccable comic timing of Jeff Kingsbury as Hysterium. From the setting in beautiful Custer State Park to the hard-working talented cast, it's worth your while.

“Great Theater in Custer State Park”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

I have been going to the Black Hills Playhouse for many years. The quality of the performances is always first rate and never better than this year. My wife and I have seen both plays so far this summer, Boeing, Boeing and Tuesdays with Morrie. Both were outstanding. Professionals from New York, students from throughout the country and college professors make up the cast and crew.

“Quality!”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

What a delightful way to spend a summer evening. While we could tell that much of the crowd were locals, tourists are really missing out, by not taking advantage of attending the Blackhills Playhouse. We loved it! The playhouse has a wonderful atmosphere, great acting and it is really a treat! (Also, there is a snack bar with yummy popcorn!)
