Sylvan Lake Lodge restaurant is within the Custer State Park system. The lodge is beautiful and we started dinner by getting a bottle of wine from the bartender and sitting in the vaulted, Western lobby in cushiony leather sofas. The staff allowed us all the time we wanted there before seating us by the window in the dining room. Servers were dressed in black and were very professional and knowledgable. We started with the buffalo chiclic (terrifically tender pieces of buffalo on a stick to be dipped in a horseradish sauce). The salads were standard (but large) wedges and Ceasars. My roast pheasant with sage cornbread stuffing was superb and my husband enjoyed his elk pasta. It was nice to have well-prepared non-standard choices. The flourless chocolate cake with raspberries was a nice finish. Outside the window was a very nice view of the park. Later in summer we would have probably ended with a coffee on the large outdoor patio, but it was too cool the night we were there.
