This is a clean, well ran motel with some very picturesque individual cabins. The rooms were clean and large.

They had just had a professionally installed Wi-Fi system. They had 15 DB directional arrays installed pointing to the rooms and cabins. Blazing fast and strong signal. I downloaded a complete movie to my I- Pod in just a few minutes.

One burner was out on the stove and they installed a new stove the next day.

This is an older establishment, but it is clean and well ran.

First time in S Dakota for my wife and myself, travelling from UK. Can't speak highly enough of Clamaity Peak Lodge, or of the manager (David - we understand that he is a relative of the owners). Owing to a travelling difficulty beforehand, we had to delay arrival by 24 hrs, notified David, and he was very understanding and helpful. We had booked cabin #10 (the newest, I think, has a full kitchen), so we cannot comment on other units there, but this one was spacious, very clean, fully fitted with all equipment which could be needed, comfortable bed and seating. There were many thoughtful touches. Although quite close to the highway, the place was quiet and peaceful, having well-kept grounds. David, as well as being obviously very hard-working, always had time to chat with guests and was a delight to meet.

And finally: the rates! Although it was our first time here, we travel and tour often in North America and we think that, taking account of everything, this was the best value for money we have ever encountered there. If you like peace and quiet, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, and can manage without too much noise, or too much "cool", this is for you. Don't miss it.

Room Tip: Unit #10 if you want space and a kitchen. Some of thesimpler motel rooms seem small.

It's crazy to still remember a place fondly after 8 years!!! We hosted a family reunion here -- essentially reserved the entire lodge (for singles and 10+ families). Children loved playing in the creek that seperated the houses/cabin from the motel-style cabins. Rooms were spacious and clean and comfy. Wonderful views. Most rooms had either full kitchens or kitchenettes. Would most definitely stay again.

*Stayed here back in August, 2004*

Room Tip: House and cabins are old-rustic style. These also trail up the mountain. On the other side of the cr...

A value in many respects. Quiet, clean, lovely setting, excellent customer service and a perfect location for spending time at Custer State Park. We chose a cabin with cooking facilities and enjoyed the flexibility of being able to prepare some of our own meals, especially the fresh-caught trout from successful afternoons of fishing at Custer. Quick access to the town of Custer made getting supplies easy. We are planning to return.

We expected something really basic and were most surprised. This was very clean, comfy and rustic. Great value for the money. We had a basic room with no tea/coffee, cooking facilities, so you need to provide your own or go into Custer. We were most impressed with the accommodation and would certainly recommend it to anyone who enjoys peace and quiet without the frills.

It was such a treat to stay in cabin #10. Great views with lovely babbling creek outside the living room and bedroom windows. Quiet, very clean. Everything we needed was provided. Just brought our own food and we were good to go. We will be back!
