This is a great home base for visiting Custer State Park and the Black Hills area. The sites are very close together, but otherwise the staff was nice, the water slide was fun,and our two boys, four and two, loved the playground. The bathrooms are nice and clean. There are also a bunch of bikes they let people ride around the camp for free.

We've stayed at Beaver Lake CG several times over the past few years. I've read thru the reviews here out of curiosity and have to say I am amazed at what some people complain about- ie bugs in the forest (seriously?) and cell phone reception (as if the CG has any control over that-call your carrier!). As for not liking your site- this actually happened to us the last time we stayed there. We went to the office and explained, and they were super accommodating, they gave us a list of open sites and let us pick what we wanted. So, if you arrive and get a site you don't like, talk to them and see what can be done! Don't just suffer in a site you hate then write a bad review.

We've had very nice interactions with all of the employees there, last time one even gave my kids rides in the golf cart back to our site from the playground, which my kids loved (it's the little things in life!). Yes I do wish the waterslide was free to campers, but I do also understand they have to pay someone to staff it whenever it's open. The CG also makes a point to state that there is a fee for the waterslide on their website and brochures so I'm not sure how that could be a surprise to anyone to warrant a bad review.

Beaver Lake CG makes a great base camp for exploring the central and southern Black Hills and we will return the next time we're camping in that area.

Room Tip: Speak to them on the phone, explain what kind of campsite you want, if it's not what you expect in person, ask if you can move to a different one.

My husband Roger, Dog Nelson and I stayed in space 17 for nearly three months. The site is near the street, but you can not hear the traffic. The campground was very well taken care . The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The sites are very spacious we were very pleased with this campground especially of how dog friendly they are. Thank you for the lovely stay Max, Cindy, Shirley, Tina, Marty, Anita, and Mary Ann. You all made this summer very special see you next year.....

Buyer beware on what is promised for the cabins. We booked C6 as it is promoted to sleep 8. In reality, this cabin will hold a family of 4 or maybe 5 at best. The loft which contains 2 double beds has no ceiling clearance--even a 9 year old can barely sit without banging their head. The ladder to get up there takes up half the cabin and the pulley wasn't working so there was a rope that went across the other half of the cabin to get the ladder to raise and lower. In all reality, the loft isn't safe for teens or small kids--ladder would be dangerous for the little ones and it can't be pulled up if anyone is up in the loft. There is not a comfortable mattress in the place and every one is ancient. The shower is 18"x18" at best. Cabin was dirty & we found two cockroaches. If you rent sheets and towels, be aware that what you get is what others have left over the years. Friends that stayed in a smaller cabin had the same experience. We'd have left if any of the local hotels had a room available. If you pull your own RV or are a tent camper you may be ok here. If you're looking for a cabin, skip this campground.

Room Tip: Ok for RVs or tent campers. Skip these cabins.

We were very happy staying at Beaver Lake Campground. We were in site 70 which is near the office area and has no one on either side of it. Everyone does walk past to get to the office or bathrooms, but that was ok. Spacious site with full hook ups. And close enough to the office that we got their wi-fi from our RV. Didn't use the pool, but did use the bathroom and showers and they were very clean. The location of Beaver Lake Campground is perfect for visiting everything you want to see in the area. The staff was very polite and helpful and we had no problems with any of them. We will recommend this campground to anyone we know going to the area.

Room Tip: Our site was a back in with full hook ups. Site 70 was relatively private and very spacious.
