We chose this place because it had handicap facilitiiies and we could have our own log cabin with areal wood burning fireplace. We loved our own "Little House in the Woods". The Park is so great that we think it should be a National Park!! I'm afraid that many travelers will not get to experience this park because they will not know about it since it is a State Park. It was a great park for seeing Wildlife....Buffalo, antelope, deer(white tail & mule), and wild donkeys.
The lodge restaurant offered a good variety. We enjoyed a buffalo rib eye steak that was totally delicious --Tasty,tender and juicey as any beef rib eye you've ever eaten. We also had buffalo sausage for breakfast. YUM! As we drove thru the park I just had to start singing: "Oh give me a home, where the buffalo roam and the deer and the antelope play, Where seidom is heard, a discouraging word and the skys are not cloudy all day." Go see this park even if you don't make the side trip to Mt Rushmore....

We heart Custer State Park and Blue Bell Lodge. Our housekeeping cabin was perfect. Quiet, private, COMFORTABLE, and clean. It was the best night's sleep of our entire week-long trip. We wish we could have stayed longer. The staff were incredibly helpful. We had a "guest" from the woods hiding out in our cabin and the handyman took care of it and offered his direct line in case we had any issues through the night (and of course we didn't!). The food and service at the Blue Bell Lodge restaurant were awesome!

The Title says it all. This place is in the heart of Custer State Park and you definitely can see this. We actually pulled up to our cabin after an enjoyable Chuck Wagon hayride dinner to see an actual Buffalo just 10 yards from our front door. The front office was quick to arrive to make sure that everything was okay. Everything here has a unique old-time feel which is great for a family staying for a vacation.

I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for a vacation in Custer State Park!!!

We loved it. Do not stay here if you are expecting a modern accommodation. These are cabins in the woods. They are very comfortable and have air, some have kitchens. Coffee pot is provided but little else. Housekeeping was great. Plenty of towels etc Staff very helpful and friendly. Beautiful location. One cabin even came with a buffalo hanging around. Highly recommend chuck wagon trip and horse back riding. Lodge is good for casual family dining. Also there is a laundry at the back of the general store.

Room Tip: Cabin 13 is great.

These cabins are very nice--high ceilings, large bedroom/living room, with fireplace, kitchenette and bathroom. Well-furnished, with a cozy feel. It is basically a very nice stand-alone hotel room. It is in the middle of a beautiful state park, although it is a little too far away from other Black Hills attractions. It's only about 20 miles from Mount Rushmore, but it takes longer than a typical 20 minute drive because of all the windy mountain roads. But, it is a great place in which to visit Custer State park and see beautiful wildlife and scenery. We saw many bison not far from our cabin. Because of the remote location, meals can be a problem, so luckily there is a restaurant very near in the main lodge. But, eating there often can be tiresome. There is a kitchenette in each cabin, but no dishes or pots and pans are included, so bring your own. All in all, a really nice place to stay for your Black Hills family vacation.

Hi OhioMN7, Thank you for staying with us. I am glad you enjoyed your stay! Next time you're in our neighborhood, try the Chuckwagon hayride. We'll feed you a steak, cowboy style, out in the hills with lots of good entertainment! We'll be looking forward to seeing you again!

After a week in south dakota at various overpriced hotels, motels, and even campgrounds it was a unexpected delight to stay in a housekeeping cabin at bluebell lodge. The cabin was clean and cozy. The surroundings were beautiful. The staff was friendly. I wish we could've stayed more than one night. Custer State Park has so much to offer that I wish I had known in advance about all of the programs and activities that you can participate in during your stay.

Cabin was had an odd odour and the bathroom door wouldn't close. A/C wouldn't turn on. Some mould in the shower. Would be fine if it was a cheap place to stay, but at more than 50% higher than most of our other stops it left something to be desired. The restaurant was pricey with meager portions though the live cowboy music was nice. We thought we would buy some cereal and milk at the store for breakfast but the selection there was also meager so back to the pricey restaurant.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your stay with us. Would you consider giving us another chance? I would recommend one of our newer sleeping cabins. There are three other lodges in the park also that aren't quite so remote. I hope to see you again!
