“Definitely the best place in town!”
Reviewed May 2, 2006

There aren't a lot of options in Custer, but the Comfort Inn is definitely the best of them all and deserves a high rating. I stay in a lot of hotels, mostly for business so usually at the 4-5 star places. The only thing Comfort Inn needs is room service and a day spa! The staff is very friendly, the rooms are large and nicely decorated. Breakfast is included and is decent although lacking in protein (hard boiled eggs were the only protein available) - add bacon or sausage and they'd get a higher breakfast rating! This is a great jumping off point to visit the Black Hills - I highly recommend it and we'd stay here again! :)

Okay, here is the scoop...

1) Excellent location
2) Clean room
3) Nice people running the front desk
4) A little bit pricey but hey, this is a tourist destination
5) Well lit parking lot
6) Seemed very safe
7) A little more noise than there should be

And there you have it. Above average and just short of excellent. I have stayed at many hotels in the Black Hills and this is one of the better ones.

Reviewed October 10, 2005

My wife and I stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites for four nights in the first week of October, 2005. The off-season rate was very reasonable. The decor is pleasant--mostly greens and earth tones (suitable for the mountain setting). Well-maintained and Immaculately clean. It's a small hotel, rather than a motel. All rooms are entered by interior corridors. No balconies. The three-story building has one elevator in the center near the main entry and entries and stairs at each end. The standard room with king-size bed was larger than we've found in other places of similar class, as was the bathroom. The indoor pool (with whirlpool) is bright and pleasant. Pool is larger than usual; depth is three feet at one end and a surprising six feet at the other (rather than the usual four or five feet). The building sits fairly far back from Custer's main road (16A) against a hillside (with trees and cliffs). We had a third-floor room facing north toward the hill. Perhaps the view from the south is more interesting but we preferred the north because it was private, didn't overlook a parking area, didn't get the southern sun, and didn't have the floodlights that shine in the windows at night. Complimentary breakfast is pretty standard, with waffles if that's important to you, in a large, pleasant dining room. Staff were all extremely polite and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.
