This hotel was by far the best one we stayed at all weekend! We were there for one night and we all wished we had spent the night before there also instead of Keystone. The beds were very comfortable.(which says alot coming from picky me)The breakfast was great! The kids enjoyed the WARM pool and hot tub. This place was recommended by a friend and I would definitely recommend it to others. If in the Black Hills area again, we will plan on staying in Custer at the Comfort Inn!!

Room Tip: I didn't realize they had rooms with a fridge and microwave. If this is something you'd like...

We spent 2 nights in Custer at the Comfort Inn, Oct. 17 and 18, and enjoyed our time there. The beds were very comfortable, and the included breakfasts were some of the best we have experienced while traveling. Add to this, a most helpful staff who went out of their way to help me when I lost a ring of sentimental value, and you have an inn we would not hesitate to recommend.

At time of booking our two-queen-bedroom we noted the request top floor and quiet. At time of check-in we got the loudest ever possible motel room. The room right next to the extremly noisy ice and vending machine. The machines were audible through entire hallway as well. It wouldn’t have been possible to sleep. When we complained we got the option of a ground floor room or a one-bed room facing the street. We decided for the one-bed-room, because on ground floor you hear all the stomping from the people above (experience from other motels and hotels).
The room then itself was clean, comfortable and spacious. The only point was the doorbolt which was jammed. You only could lock it with some power.
Nevertheless the staff was very friendly.
The pool was great. The pool hours were great as well. The only point is the air. The water was comfortable warm but the air was too cold. That's causing the water to cool off fast and that’s a waste of energy.
Breakfast: Missing items (cereals) and empty containers (waffle-batter, oatmeal), were not filled up. Hot water and coffee were almost cold.

We spent two nights at this Comfort Inn during a visit to Mt. Rushmore and Custer State Park. We were very pleased with our stay there. The facility is attractive and well-kept and the location is very good. Downtown Custer, a charming town with shops and eateries, is just down the street (less than a mile). Custer State Park, which offers beautiful drives, is not far, and Mt. Rushmore is only about 35 minutes or so away. The only way to get closer to Rushmore is to stay in Keystone and there aren't as many good places to choose from there. We were pleased with this location and even drove over to Rapid City for a couple hour visit which we thoroughly enjoyed.

This location is quiet and the staff is friendly. In fact, I was given an upgrade to a larger room without even asking - I believe it was because I'm a Choice Privilege member (it's free to join and you get points for stays). The upgrade gave me a nicer room with a refrigerator and microwave (room #201) and we were very pleased with it. I peeked in at a standard room and it looked fine as well, but doesn't have frig and microwave (which we didn't use anyway).

The bed was very comfortable - and I'm really particular about that - and the room was clean. The breakfast was served in a larger than usual dining room (so nice not to have to hustle for a table) and the menu is expanded as well. One morning there were cheese eggs, sausage gravy and biscuit, along with the other usuals at a continental breakfast. It was very tasty.

All in all, I would highly recommend this Comfort Inn as a good place to stay when visiting all the sights to see in the Black Hills.

Friendly staff nice room. Price was right and even got better with AAA. Good breakfast. Very quiet even though fairly close to main road. Lots of deer in the area. Breakfast had a nice variety and attendant was constantly checking and making sure buffet area was clean.

Nights three and four of our 2012 road trip saw us back in Custer for the first time in probably eight years. We stayed at the Comfort last time and so enjoyed it we decided to return and were not disappointed. Yes it is an average chain but everything about it was impressive, from the reception that we received, the room was typically spacious and very clean, the beds comfortable and the bathroom spotless. The breakfast was fine and was what is becoming the standard for most of the chain hotels. Easily sighted on the main road just out of the centre with easy access to Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore and then quickly out of town as we headed west.
I doubt we will hit custer again but if we did we would return.

The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel was completey booked the night of our stay (night before the Buffalo Roundup) and yet their buffet breakfast was extremely organized and tasty. Would definitely stay again!
