“Perfect family trip”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

Drove up from Denver to visit Mt. Rushmore and stayed at Sylvan Lake Lodge at Custer State Park on the recommendation of a family member...it was perfect. Good mix of hiking, swimming and scenic driving to entertain the 4 & 7 year old as well as a Mom and Dad.

“Small on a map, but big in attractions!”
Reviewed December 31, 2012

Custer State Park is, for many, the single best place to go in the Black Hills for scenery and outdoor entertainment. From the beauty of the Needles Highway and Sylvan Lake, to the riding, boating, hiking activities, and fine dining at the State Game Lodge, Blue Bell, Legion Lake, and the Wildlife Loop Road, and even more, this is the best kept secret in the Black Hills. Oh yes, there's even a huge Bison population. Many of these magnificent creatures hang around the State Game Lodge, or can be seen along the Wildlife Loop Road. However, many services are limited to the high season. So check things out before you go. Bottom line: words cannot describe all there is to see and do at Custer State Park!

“One of the most beautiful parks in SD”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

I love Custer State Park. It is always beautiful no matter what time of year you go. The lakes in the park are all great for fishing or just relaxing. If you are ever in Western SD I would suggest a detour to Custer State Park. You won't regret it.

“trip advisor sucks”
Reviewed December 18, 2012

Six to ten times per year isn't enough time in that park, I go more often than that.. Bison are the big show. There are dozens of other animals, amazing flowers in summer and unreal desolation in winter.

“Gorgeous”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Ended up coming here because the vacation time we had scheduled (May) was not ideal for a trip to Yellowstone. So glad we did. Custer State Park is so lovely, there's no way I could describe our experience and do it justice. We saw plenty of wildlife, including, of course, scores of bison (and their babies!!), which we sometimes had to wait patiently for to wander off of the road so we could drive by. I would love to come here again. America, you sure are beautiful.
